Nayarit Culture. 250 BC to 200 AD. SIZE: Height- 8.25" 12 cm) Width- 4.5" 11.5 cm) Depth- 3.5" 9 cm) An anthropomorphic male sitting figure. Leaning forward with his left hand holding an object in, or up to his mouth. His right hand is on his right knee. The figure has foreshortened legs, long curving arms of unequal length, a flattened face with a proportionate nose and coffee bean eyes. He is wearing multiple ear spools. This figure's head. Body, and legs are hollow and there is a large round opening at the top of his head, making the piece into a vessel as well as a figure. The figure's hair is cut into bangs across the forehead and the details ... moreof the hair were inscribed into the clay before firing. The neckline also has dimension and is raised up from the body. Depicting the figure to be wearing clothing. The surface of the figure is of the red burnished- polished clay and there are remnants of white and possibly black slip pigments painted on the face. There may have been yellowish designs on the chest. As well, but if so they hardly visible now. The surface shows dark dimensional manganese deposits in many areas. And some light encrustations of dirt and other substances in the crevices. This piece is between 1.800 and 2,250 years old. It was collected during the 1940's and was obtained from an old San Francisco collection. Condition: This piece is in good excavated condition with no losses. The following is noted: A tight. Stable, very thin hairline extending from the front of the figure's throat, over his right shoulder, to the back of his neck. It appears that there is a very old repair where the upper left part of the head has been glued back after a separation. A line showing this runs under his left eye, up the forehead and hair and down the back of his head and over the left ear(please see photos

From Western Mexico. A pair of miniature vessels of the Michoacan/Tarascan Empire, ca. 400- 200 BC. One, a gray-ware tri-leg dish with several tiny ancient chips to the rim, otherwise pristine, 1-5/8" 4cm) in diameter, 5/8" 17mm) tall. The other, a gray/black-ware bowl in pristine condition, 1-1/8" 3cm) in diameter, 5/8" 17mm) tall. Both mounted on a black stone plinth, no label but one will be applied before shipment. The name"Michoacan" is from Nahuatl. And means"place of the fishermen" referring to those who fish on Lake Patzcuaro. This piece is very heavy- weighs just over six(6) pounds and is hand-carved from a gorgeous grey toned stone- you can see the traditional stance and markings that are typical of this p articular era in Pre-Columbian Art. This is a beautiful piece from my family's estate in excellent condition as you can see from the photos. My father had a Doctorate in Pre-Columbian Art History from USC and traveled extensively throughout the world and specifically in Mexico throughout the 1940's-1950's amassing his collection through his traveling and buying at antique and auction houses. A Miniature terracotta upright figure from the Jalisco culture of western Mexico. Ca. 200 BC- 200 AD. The figure, has the hands folded across the chest, and is in a somewhat bent over position, some unknown object attached to the thigh of one leg. 2-1/8" 5.4cm) tall, 1" 2.54cm) across the shoulders and approximately 5/8" 1.6cm) in depth, mounted and labeled on a polished wood plinth, the overall height is 4-1/4" 10.8cm) I will furnish a color photocopy. A fine. Large Protoclassic burnished terracotta Colima dog figure, from the Colima culture, dating to approximately 200 BC- 200 AD. Exhibiting a beautiful dark red colour. The plump beast stands on squat. Bent legs, with large round pot-belly, short, erect tail, pricked ears and exposed teeth. The head of the creature fashioned into a spout with everted lip, revealing the piece to be a particularly elaborate vessel. The enigmatic Colima dog figures were produced in what is now Mexico from the 3rd Century BC. Dogs were considered to be useful on one's inevitable journey to the underworld and were therefore placed with the deceased as trusty companions. Length: 13 inches. Your figure. Appears to be, is from the"shaft and chamber tomb" culture of West Mexico(Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima) which dates to roughly 300BC-AD300. Ancient Pre-Columbian Earthernware Vessel with Face 200-300 BC Pottery
From a major north eastern collection. Appraised at over $1,500.00. This artifact was made by the pre Columbian people of the Andes Mountains sometime between 200-300BC! The object is beautiful with signs of ceremonial use(interior staining) a crack to the outside including a missing fragment is pictured. Paint still is visible representing at least three different pigments. Detail to the face is unblemished and graceful. A handle remains intact on the back of the object. 3.5" tall by 3" wide This is a real piece of pre Columbian pottery that is thousands of years old. With Slipware Glaze Decoration. c.300BC-200AD Now offering a pre-Columbian"Colima Dog" effigy vessel in glazed slipware pottery. Which dates from between 300BC- 200AD. Evidence of the slipware glaze decoration is all over the piece. Especially on one side, where color concentric circles can be seen. The lip of the opening in the top has some wear and a little loss, but no repairs are evident. This is a particularly attractive piece of ancient. Pre-Columbian Mexico pottery; from the estate of a Connecticut collector who passed away, purchased at auction around 2007. The Colima dogs were a breed used for sacrifice and were also part of the diet. Vessels like this were used in burials, as that is where most of them were discovered. The Colima dog is usually fat ... morein the belly area, which showed that it was well-fed and ready for a ceremony or the dinner table.
