American Pennsylvania Chippendale Tall Chest of Drawers Highboy, 18th Century
Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! American Chippendale Walnut Tall Case Chest of Drawers Pennsylvania. Circa 1760-80 Item# 120106UTT08 This early tall case antique chest of drawers is a fine example of 18th Century Pennsylvania craftsmanship. Representing the desire for curvature and embellishment even in the clean lines we've come to love from Pennsylvania cabinetmakers. Framed inside the handsome carved crown projecting over the entire case, the top of this tall case chest of drawers is unusually finished with a smooth planed walnut surface. It's height is just at the level where a craftsman must choose whether to leave it unfinished. Or if a tall client might be offended by the rough surface- clearly the cabinetmaker chose to err on the side of caution in his design by finishing it completely. The fully graduated gallery ... moreof three small drawers over six broad drawers naturally draws the eye upward. True to Pennsylvania tradition. The secondary woods of the drawers are thick and generous; each drawer has thick hand dovetails front and back, the bottom being very heavily chamfered along all edges to rabbet into the sides. Replaced hardware on each drawer is somewhat mismatched- look carefully at the photos for details. The original hardware does appear to have been batwing, which would be appropriate for a piece of this design and formality, though clearly larger and with more presence than the current brasses. Many of the locks are still original, secured with rose head nails- the holes for the replaced hardware have been carefully respected and for the most part are undisturbed(see photos for exceptions) Flanking the drawers are two long fluted columns with ring-turned capitals and bases. Seemingly lifting the canopy on this chest and making the overall heavy design appear light and easy. The sides of the case dovetail top and bottom into the case, though the top dovetails are hidden beneath the walnut top. The back of the case is constructed of two very broad boards flanking a thin middle boa
18th CENTURY SPANISH COLONIAL AMERICAS BIG BELT BUCKLE
Please scroll down the page to see additional photographs of this item. 18th CENTURY SPANISH COLONIAL AMERICAS BIG BELT BUCKLE Presented is a remarkable. Spanish colonial silver belt buckle of good weight made during the 1700s or perhaps as early as the 1600s. This is definitely an antique piece. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas were referred to as the 4 continents; the scene on these buckles are representative of the Americas. Each large buckle has a ruffled border and is hand chased with raised palm trees and a native dressed with feathers. The buckles are large and one of them is still attached to the original, thick chain mail belt. This belt must have been incredibly strong! We can imagine that perhaps a Spanish Conquistador such as Cortes, Ponce de Leon, de Soto or Pizarro once wore this belt, ... morebecause of the high quality of the piece. The buckles are guaranteed to be at least 800 purity. This buckle set is in very good condition for its age. It is incredible that this old piece is even still in tact! There is a small bend to one of the ruffles at the bottom of one buckle. On the edge but this is only noticeable upon close inspection. Unfortunately most of the actual belt portion is missing. You can see where it was once attached to one of the medallions. There are no other problems. Each buckle measures 2 1/2 by 3 3/8 inches. The combined weight of the buckles and the thick belt part is 256 grams or 9 ounces. Good luck and bid with confidence. A pair of late 18th century Colonial/Trade Pipes. 1800 to 1865
2 early Colonial/Indian trade pipes would have had reed stems. the 1st pipe appears pristine as in not used the"leaf" bowl appears unused no glaze no carbonization in bowl does have mineralization in joint of bowl and stem. The 2nd pipe is an unusual twist pattern glazed and appears to have been used as there is carbon discoloration in the bowl. Neither were found with the stem the leaf was found from a factory that burned in Philly in the 1850's the Glazed pipe was a field find in Ohio Unknown manufacturer. As I haven't found another twist pipe that looked like it. I used to do Historical Recreations of the US Fur-trade Era Colonial-1840. Both pipes were from reputable dealers. Again the straight striped"leaf" pipe was new never used factory destroyed by fire in the 1850's I believe the used glazed pipe is ... moreolder as I can find no pipes with the twist pattern it has. It has mold lines so I assume it was a Commercial Piece but no USA records I can find on it. May be European. Ioffer a 14 day no question return policy on all my sales. Buyer pays shipping Ipay tracking and insurance. I ship within 24hours usually less on orders madefrom 10 am Sunday to 12 noon Friday. Items I sell are described to the best of myKnowledge. SPECTACULAR Antique Spanish Colonial silver crown—18th century, Guatemala
This spectacular chased silver crown adorned the head of"El Niño de Praga" santo/wood statue. There is a crown quinto stamp/mark no the inside of the lower part of the headband. It's unusual for a religious piece to have the crown mark because the church was exempt from paying the 20% quinto tax to the Spanish crown. Consequently. It's fair to say this crown and the accompanying santo were for private use or were gifts to the church. This type of crown mark is typical of Guatemala for the period ranging from 1750-1790. Antique Plantation Slave Leg Shackles Mississippi MS circa late 18th century
Late 18th early 19th Century Slave Shackles Up for your bidding consideration is this original set of shackles used in the slave trade during the"Middle Passage" from Africa to the Americas. A truly grizzly relic of a dark time in our nation's history. Images of shackles such as this appear in numerous abolitionist books. As well as collections focusing on the practices and history of slavery. Originally being crafted in Africa. Shackles such as these were made to bind the leggings of captives. The ring on the end of the bar would have been made secure by a wood peg. Locks were not used due to the large volume of shackles being used, coupled with the fact hands were usually bound as well. Measures approximately 16" in length. From an estate of a man in Mullins. SC who collected& searched for relics with a metal detector. ... moreThe tag that came with the shakles reads" Found in Pontitoe, Miss. The piece has some rust. Pitting and oxidation consistant with age, I've left them in their original condition. This design of blacksmith crudely made shackles can also be seen in shipwreck artifacts recovered by period slave trade ships.

Authentic 18th Century Great Lakes Indian wooden ball club
Authentic 18th Century Great Lakes Indian Ball Club carved from Burl Hickory. This club was acquired from an old English Estate. And was originally collected in Canada by a career British soldier during the War of 1812. This club is with out a doubt the most beautifully patinated American Indian War Club I have ever seen. The burl ball shows the multi directional, complicated, raised end grain swirl pattern that only a couple hundred years of protected age could produce. When combined with the well carved, eight U shaped concentric groves, circling the ball head, give it the look of a finely engraved topographic map. The hardness and density of the wood and the exquisit patina give the feeling that it is a fine semi translucent horn carving rather than wood. The club measures 20 1/4" long including the 3/4" hand forged open claw ... moreshaped iron spike ring at the base of the handle. This was probably added for a suspension strap or to attach decoration. This ring is driven through a 1799 British Farthing which is itself fastened to the base by two nails. In my opinion the handle had cracked at the base from use and this may have served as a repair. The wonderfully carved smooth ball measures 3 1/ 4" X 3 1/2"in diameter and has two circular cup shaped depressions top and bottom. They are 3/4" in diameter by 3/8" deep. I was told by the Estate that these depressions were once inlayed with a decorative bone or shell and that they did not survive a couple centurys of grandchildren. The handle, where it joins the ball is 1 1/8" in diameter and at the base is 7/ 8" in diameter.

Stone Implements Predating the Mid-18th Century - UNIQUE!
The introduction of metals by European explorers made stone implements such as these unnecessary. These objects predate the mid 18th century. The two"axe-like" smaller stones were attached to a U-shaped wooden handle and held in place with a leather binding. Their use was for chopping. Hacking etc. It is obvious that these were well used especially the smaller axe. The long slender stone which is quite sharp along the wide bottom was most likely used for digging. A straight down thrust was used. It too was lashed to a wood handle. The rounded piece also shows some wear. I believe it was used for pounding(much like a mortar& Pestal) I thought originally that it was used for grinding grain but a more knowledgeable person thought differently. It is very heavy. I have had these items for approximately 50 years(not to give away my ... moreage) and know nothing about the location of the tribal people that used these tools. As well as their historical value. They are quite beautiful for decorating. Since I know nothing of their provenance, the price is quite reasonable, so happy bidding!
