Thickness is 1/4" Four brass plated metal strap ends. 1" long split head brass tacks to nail the leather to the trunk. Tacks are to be placed two per end under the position of the metal strap ends in a verticle position for best attachment. Form the permanent handle loop to suit before completing the nailing. Split head tacks 3/4" are to fasten the metal strap ends. Striking antique. Oval, wooden lock chest with hand-forged iron hardware. It has the date"1845" carved in the underside of the top with initials ZH and ZVSV stamped on the top and on the underside of the top. I am unsure of the origin but the area of Germany/France has been suggested. The chest was clearly built with the purpose of keeping its items secure, perhaps for traveling or shipping purposes. The chest is approximately 20.25" wide, 15" deep and 12.5" tall from the bottom to the highest point of the dome top. It weighs approximately 14 pounds. Being an old chest. It shows expected wear. It is overall very solid but does have its share of dings, scuffs, and some minor loosening of the iron band and wood bottom trim in a couple of areas. Antique Cedar Trunk with Walnut Carved Design- From what I can see. This was hand made from Cedar with a walnut carved veneer overlay on front. Original lock and Key. Key is a single tooth, hollow barrel metal Skelton key. Hinges appear to be original, but I am not certain. Small dovetailed joints with distinct un-matching groves validate the 1800's age I believe to be when it was made. Another strong indicator is the patent number on the back solid panel dating it around 1844. This piece is not in perfect condition, but I would say PRETTY DARE GOOD! Revolutionary War Era Pine Trunk Travel Chest Military Campaign Iron Hardware. We are selling a very old named military campaign chest from the revolutionary war era. This just is constructed with most unusual cuts of wood. The top. Sides and bottom all have one piece planks for construction. I believe this chest was all painted in a hand grain when it was made originally. The inside of the lid has most of the original hand grain still on it. There are a few small spots we can still see the original grain but 98% of it is gone. Chest was also repainted in a grayish color at one time, but most of that gray color is also gone. The iron hardware is all hand forged and mostly still there. The strap hinges were moved at one time is the pictures show. The lock is all may have iron,and in the locked position, with no key. There are remnants of leather ... morehandles on both sides of the chest. The chest has been Nailed and re-screwed and resecured many, many times. The newest nails in the chest look to be close to 100 years old. There are screws, original hand cut nails in the rectangular shape, and the very old, square handcut nails. The owners name was Capt. E. B. Jones. His name is on the front of the chest, the side of the chest, and looks like some other writing on the bottom of the chest which we can't make out. There is also a very small partial shipping label on the front in white paper that reads Cunard lines, NO. 7. The size of the chest is 28 1/4 x 17 x 16" This wonderful little wartime souvenir has all the properties of be in from the Civil War era. The chest is in very rough condition and you are buying it as is and shown. Please look close at the pictures as they are part of the description. 6 Antique Trunk Clamps, Trim Pieces, Edge Clamps, Hardware!!!!
Up for bid are 6 edge clamps for an old/antique trunk. My guess is that they date back to the late 1800's and would fit a medium to large size trunk. The metal is heavy duty and I can't bend it with my hands. I took lots of pics so you can see the measurements and condition of the clamps. They show normal wear and rust. But are in serviceable condition for antique trunk clamps. Please use the measurements as a guide. But also note that the clamps are not all the exact same size. Maybe the production process was primitive because they aren't bent exactly the same. I have one more auction of the same sized clamps. Made in the early 1900's but could be older as this type of iron work can be dated earlier. The use of large iron round head rivets and iron plates have a long history of industrial applications. Trunk's heavy duty hinges and hasp bound by rivets are better suited for a strong box. Four small iron bun feet are bolted to the bottom of trunk. Measures: 21" tall. 32.5" wide, and 19" deep. One larger compartment inside with a smaller top area measureing approx. 6" x 18.5" Two large iron handles also riveted to the sides. Total weight is about 185 lbs. Here I have 4 iron steamer trunk corner hardware feet off a very old trunk. All are marked S 165 1/2. They are 2 1/4" by 2 3/4" wide and in good old condition and clean. They could be used just as they are or could be plated or painted. One has a nail stilll in the hole but it can be easily cut out with the right tool. Antique 1800's Brown Eveleigh Baggage Trunk with Eagle Lock Co. Hardware
This trunk was purchased in 1983 from an Antique Shop in the Boston. MA area. We've owned it since and used it for storage and as a coffee table. It's a flat-top steamer and got its name because it was often seen on steam ships. At the time it was commonly referred to as a"Packer" It was the baggage of choice from around 1870 to the 1920's. There's a stiff. Folded fabric-covered piece that I assume rested over an interior tray, although no tray was included when we bought it. The interior frame to support a tray remains. The cover shows the name" Eveleigh Baggage" that it was made in Canada by a company established in 1870. The lock is from the Eagle Lock Company in Terryville. CT, but we have no key. These locks were patented in the late 1800's as well. Eveleigh trunks were primarly sold in New York/USA. ... moreMost early steamer trunks were shorter than other trunks so they could be stored under cabin beds on steam ships. But this one is tall enough to use also as a table. It's not considered a wardrobe trunk because there are no drawers or hangers. Most of the leather is intact. But neither handle would support lifting. It has small wheels on the bottom that are not visible unless you look underneath, but make it easy to move around. There are no holes in the exterior, but the interior fabric would need replacing if one were planning a total restoration. Eveleigh Baggage Company of Montreal. Candada started in 1870 making suitcases and trunks. They were eventually sold in 1957 to J.E. Lortie Company. The Eagle Lock Company in Terryville, CT began in 1833& was a huge manufacturer of trunk locks. Approximate Dimensions: 2'10" L x 2' H x 20"W(or deep) Approximate Weight: 40 lbs. Super looking old travel trunk completely refinished. Measures 14" tall; 40 1/2" wide and 22" front to back. Good size for a coffee table- if you need taller could put rollers on bottom or put it on a frame. Has 2 coats of stain; one coat of poly for easy cleaning; new leather handles; new interior wallpaper. At one time it had leather straps all the way around- still has all the hardware but only has bottom part of straps on front. They just seemed to get in the way. Notes/Observations: See Photos. Grand old trunk. From the research I have done and the travel labels that are on the trunk. I would say this is c1920s and saw a lot of action on American railways. This is a Flat Top trunk. Which makes it particularly good for use as a coffee table. This trunk has Wooden(oak) Slats. Which now have a rich patina from years of use. The lock is open and appears to be functional. But we don't have the key. The edges of the trunk are leather tacked into the wood. There is one area where the leather has split. Some additional tacks will handle this. The exterior surface of the trunk is fabric over wooden construction. The fabric is holding up very well. No fraying or missing pieces, The corners and some of the edges are metal bound. The metal has a nice dark patina. The leather handles on the ends are split. ... moreNew leather is needed there. If you restore this trunk. Then I hope you get a leather worker to make new straps(which would look great) Bottom of the trunk has wood slats over metal sheets. Inside. The fabric covering is in bad shape. The interior does not smell musty, Nice trunk. And a good item to start with if you are looking for a restoration project. Also good and usable the way it is if you like an unrestored look. Overall size: 32 3/4" wide x 20" deep x 12-3/4" high One of the wood slats is in need of repair. Antique Salvage Steamer Trunk Hardware Original Lot of 8 Metal Repair Parts
This is an antique lot of 8 original hardware pcs. off an early steamer trunk good for repurpose repair parts. They are in solid condition but are very old so some rust too backs but nothing terrible. There are 4 pcs. that go on the trunk lid and 4 pcs. the go fro the lid down the side. The straight pcs. are 4" long about ad the others are 3 1/4" because one end goes over the lid top. Each pc. is 1 1/4" wide. Original metal salvaged parts lot! Happy to answer questions! Made from solid walnut and cypress lining with antique hardware and working brass Eagle lock with key. Great for so many uses including coffee table.
