It is a wood structure trunk and frame with smooth me tal(black) and woven pattern metal riveted overlays with beautiful beading to ta ck in metals and curved and straight gorg eousl y grained wood slat s. Here's what I stated about it s condition: Metal overlay surfaces have been repainted and restored. Some scratches and scuffs marks on beautifully grained wood slats. Leather handle missing on left side. Flip up side locking latches both flip up into locking position. But only one catches to keep it lock closed and the other is missing its catch. Center locking latching closes in position but does not lock and there is no key. Interior lining shows foxing and staining and has some t ares due to great age. But smells clean with nice scent like cedar inside. Truly a rare beauty of extra large size that has great looks and craftsmanship on evident in these earlier era pieces of exceptional beauty. Vintage Metal Humpback Steamer Trunk Treasure Chest 1800 - 1899
Up for sale is a very nice antique Victorian Steamer Trunk. It is in very good condition inside and out. The outside has very nice stamped flowers. Very nice woodwork, one leather strap is broken the other is good, the pictures say it all. The dimensions are 31 wide by 17.5 wide by 25 deep. The flower has Pat. Mar 1880.I believe its Scandinavian make but Im really not sure and cant prove it. I will ship via FedEx Ground. This is sold asis. Thanks

Antique Late 1800's Dome Top Humpback Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A large hump back antique steamer trunk that dates to approximately the late 1800's. It measures 31" long X 20" wide x 27' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats that have developed a beautiful patina over the past century. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with brass tacks and very ornate hardware. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk used to be lined with paper but it's either been taken off or it's worn off over the years and now it's pretty much just down to bare wood. Which will make it easier to work with when you go to restore it prior to placing linens or blankets in it for ... morestorage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. If you'd like to store things inside most folks like to sand down the interior and then seal it or line it with cedar which eliminates any lingering odors.The hasps on the front do not close tightly because the lid does not fit properly. The leather handles need to be replaced and the original wood tray is missing. The bottom of the trunk has 2 plain hardwood slats running across the edges over black tin and there are 3 small metal wheels on the bottom corners(one is missing and needs to be replaced) these little metal wheels make it easy to move around on any flat hard surface. We are unsure if the lock works properly because there is no key so it will be shipped in the open position. Please view all of the photos and ask for more if needed, they are a very important part of my description. There are several sites on-line that offer free advise on how to restore antique trunks and the majority of them sell the parts you'll need. Vintage Metal/ Wood/ Leather Humpback Steamer Trunk 1800's
HI, I have for sale a early 1900's maybe a late 1800's Antique Humpback Trunk. Located in Weston. Wi. by Wausau, WI. 54476. The trunk is in good condition for the age. It has wheels on the bottom, has to outside latches that work fine and a center locking latch I have no key, but not all that hard to finds a key. The outside is made of wood and metal with some leather overlay and wood slates, the bottom is solid, there is no self for the inside and overall in good condition. Large Antique Domed Top Steamer Trunk from the 1800's completely refurbished
This antique steamer trunk has been completely refurbished and relined on the inside. The outside has wooden oak beams that go entirely around the outside and are bowed to cover the top of the trunk. On the outer sides there are 2 leather handles that are held in place by ornamental irons. Unfortunately the lock on the front does not have a key but could probably be fitted with a new one if your so determined. The overall measurements are: 34" W x 20" D x 29" H. Honestly. This trunk is the most beautiful vintage steamer trunk I've ever seen. My best friend and I go to estate sales in Northern NJ every weekend, and I came across this in the attic of a seemingly abandoned mansion. I'm attaching a bunch of photos. Vintage / Antique 1800's STEAMER CHEST TRUNK XCLNT COND:TRAY, WORKING LOCK & KEY
This 1800's clean steamer trunk is in(my assessment) is in Excellent Original Condition. INTERIOR: The trunk is made of solid wood. The interior is fully lined with a paper liner. The paper is a striped pattern. I have included a close up photograph of the lined paper. I consider the quality to be excellent. I can provide additional close up photographs as requested. EXTERIOR: Dimensions: 39" L x 24.25" W X 22.24" H The sides are a brown metal with wooden slats and really nice brass with the brass round accents. The leather handles on each end are in excellent condition. There are two latches also in excellent condition in addition to the central lock with key. The leather straps around the trunk could be refurbished. RIght now the are excellent on the top. But note they are torn and not able to fasten. I can provide close-up ... morephotographs as needed, just ask me. I was only able to load 12 pictures here. LOCK& KEY: I have the key which works to unlock the lock. I have included a photograph of the key.There is slight bend in the metal on the lock so you do need to jiggle it to open. The bottom line though is. The trunk locks and unlocks with the key. I like the key because of the heart shape. TRAY: It has the original tray and the tray has the original top. Both tray and top are lined with the same paper as the trunk. The removable tray sits in the top portion of the trunk. In the photographs below I have included a photograph with the tray outside of the box on the carpet with the top on. I have also included photographs of the tray inside to box. One of the photographs is of the tray inside the box with the top folded over so that you can see half of the tray's contents. The other photograph is of the tray inside the box with the top removed. PERSONAL ASSESSMENT: With my own research(I am NOT an expert) I estimate this trunk to be approximately made circa 1872 based on these three facts: 1. Antique Steamer Trunk Chest Dome/Flat Top Vintage original never restored 1800's
Antique Steamer Trunk. Dome/Flat Top, 100+ years old, original never restored This antique Steamer Trunk is commonly referred to as either a“Dome-Top” or“Flat-Top” It has the rounded front and back edges. It is tin covered with wooden bands. The interior has the original tray. Covered compartments and graphics. The hook that holds the tray up is still intact and holds the tray up and out of the way just fine. The pins that hold the tray in place allowing it to swivel up are also fully intact and working. The graphics have amazingly bright vivid colors and are in pretty good shape considering it is over 100 years old. This trunk has small metal wheels on the bottom for easy transportation. As seen in the pictures. They are a little rusty, but the wheels turn remarkably smooth and freely. The leather strap handles have broken off. But the hardware ... morethat holds them is still intact. Through the years, it has developed mild mildew and rust. please refer to the pictures as full disclosure of the condition) I don’t know the year of this trunk but through research and family history I am guessing it to be from the late 1800’s. Antique Late 1800's Slight Dome Top Steamer Trunk Hardwood Slats
A rather plain antique steamer trunk with a slight dome lid that dates to the late 1800's. It measures approximately 28" long X 17" wide x 22' high(at the highest point in the center of the lid) and it weighs roughly 38# It's covered with tin and there are attractive hardwood slats running across the top. Back and sides. The wood slats and tin are all held in place with both small and large round top tacks and there are rather plain corner protectors on all of the wood. The wood and metal on this trunk has taken a lot of abuse but these were made to stand up to even the roughest handling and the trunk is still basically nice and sturdy. The trunk has an antique chromolithograph on the inside of the lid of and cattails in the background. The trunk is lined with a dull gray colored paper that has mostly peeled away and ... moreand most folks like to remove all of the paper, sand down the interior and then seal the wood, but there are other options, one is to line the entire inside with cedar. Whichever method you choose will eliminate any lingering dusty odors if you plan to use it for storage. The trunk is nice in dry inside and there are no moth ball odors, just a dry dusty odor that reminds me of the attic in my grandmother's home many many years ago. There's a hole visible way down in the bottom of the trunk that appears to be bigger in the photos than it actually is, my husband has determined that there used to be a knot in the wood and it eventually came loose and was probably removed. The funny looking wood all along the back inside bottom of the trunk is not'lumpy' as it appears to be in the photos, it's flat and smooth and most likely the result of another piece of wood with knots in the finish, the entire inside of the trunk is nice and dry. There is no tray and one of the leather handles are missing and will need to be replaced. We do not have a key for the lock and are unsure if the lock even works so it will be shipped open. Antique Late 1800's Traveling Steamer Trunk Vintage Flat Top Steampunk Cunard
Here is an amazing piece of history. This vintage travel trunk has seen many places such as Paris as you can see from all the vintage stickers on it. This was even on a Cunard cruise. It's 32"x19"x21" The lock does not work but the claps still hold the lid down well. It has the interior trays for clothes and other items. The paper inside is coming off the inside but it's still there is you want to restore it. The thick leather straps are in excellent condition for their age and carry well. This trunk is over 100 years old so it does have wear and tear over the years but that just adds to the character of it. It also has small casters on the bottom for easy transport. Fabulous 1800's Antique Doll or Child's trunk. In great shape for it's age- very sound structure and no mildew or musty smell. Measures in inches approximately: 9.75 D X 16 W X 11.5 H. Has been in my family since the early 1970's. Features: Small wooden chest of square design with lovely red/brown lithograph paper bearing beautiful designs. Inside there is a removable. 2 compartment top tray. Tray rails are solid and existing. Tray fits firmly and is supported. All metal stays are solid and in place. Paper covering is original. No mildew or musty smells. Metal features are not damaged nor bent. Lid closes firm and completely aligned. Hinge tight. Straight and completely aligned. Inside. Hinge to keep lid from closing unexpectedly(I have not confirmed if hinge locks fully extended, but the lid holds itself up just fine with ... morethe hinge nearly extended to full position) Noteable known defects- see pictures. Leather side handles are missing. Water stains at the bottom. But no water damage inside Some missing paper at edges. Some edges and a section on top. Crack on top of lid and another one on one side. Depression in front side of tray. About the size of a finger. Edge wear. Including an exposed nail. No key- have not tried to latch the lock. Note: A long time ago a piece of paper covering. The size of a nickel came off and was stored inside the chest. I don't know where it came off from. It's included in case you wish to mend it somewhere. 1800's Antique Domed Hump Back Steamer Trunk Treasure Chest w/ Wooden Tray This is a beautiful Humpback trunk and is of a smaller size than the majority I see listed. The overall dimensions of this truck are: 26" wide(handle to handle) 14" deep(front to back) 17" tall(at it's tallest point) Here are some additional details on it: The center latch is offset of center and looks to use a skeleton type key(keyhole in center) to unlock. I do not have the key for this trunk The latches to either side have a patent date on them of July 9 72(1872) which is awesome to have a date of any kind on a piece like this. Leather handles on each end have long since fallen apart but replacement handles are readily available. Tin and Copper covered with wood trim and accent. Wooden insert tray. Inside of trunk and the tray appear to have ... moresome type of covering on them and the covering coming off and is dirty. I am leaving them as I received it because I know some people want the trunk in original condition and"cleaning it up" can make it less desirable. All the metal accent pieces are present and look to be in good condition when you consider the age of this trunk. All four wheel are present on the bottom. Aside from that let the pictures tell the rest of this story. Being smaller than the full size trunks would make this a great addition to someones home and/or collection.
