Today you can go anywhere in the entire world within 24 hours by plane. Just think way back when before commercial airlines. People traveled primarily by railroad or by ship. Traveling was long, hard, and exhausting. People would literally live out of these trunks as they traveled for weeks and sometimes months on end. Thus. They were built with quality and built to last, which is why they have stood the test of time! The craftsmanship that went into the construction and design of theses ole’ trunks are truly nothing short of spectacular. I recently discovered this wardrobe trunk buried in the rafters in the attic of a local farm house estate in a in nearby town. It stopped me dead in tracks and I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor! There was no way I was leaving without this trunk. And lucky for me I had hubby to carry it out of the attic and down 3 flits of stairs! And now for the decription… This is a nice authentic period Wardrobe steamer trunk. It is signed on the exterior by the maker Oshkosh Trunk Company. I am unsure of the exact age. But it was clearly left where I had found it for a very very long time. If I had to guestimate I would say it is likely from the early 20 th century. It measures 40 x 22 x 20 inches and weighs 75 pounds respectfully. The exterior is covered with what appears to be a volcanized material with dozens of original brass. Nails, knobs Hinges, Lock and hardware. The lock comes with key and functions as designed. On the interior right side. The trunk has 5 wood drawers with original deco drawer pulls and covered in swanky antique fabric. Up for sale is a very nice antique Victorian Steamer Trunk. It is in very good condition inside and out. The outside has very nice stamped flowers. Very nice woodwork, one leather strap is broken the other is good, the pictures say it all. The dimensions are 31 wide by 17.5 wide by 25 deep. The flower has Pat. Antique Dome Victorian Steamer Bride Trunk, Wood, Embossed Metal, Trays, Lithos
Dome top steamer chest/trunk. Bride or wedding trunk, or ship/stagecoach travel trunk. Of wood and metal construction, metal embossed outer layer, wood slat trim, most of the original antique hardware embellishments, a number of the pieces stamped Pat Mar 168(the final number of the patent year didn’t make it onto the hardware, but still indicates the patent dates back to the 1600’s! All the interior compartments are intact. With original linen-type covering over the compartment lids, with original pictorial lithographs and elaborate borders. Original graphic paper lining also intact on the underside of the compartment lids and the bottom section of the trunk– see condition in photos. The spots of discoloration in places may be rust coming through from the metal; bidder to determine. There are 5 compartments in the upper section– two in the ... morelid, and 3 in the top tray which includes one long compartment across the back(try to ignore the glaring blue felt lining in the compartments and bottom of the trunk, but note that I did not lift it to see what’s underneath) Please check all views of the photos for condition of the outer embossed skin/metal/wood(a few dents and splits in the metal but I didn’t see missing sections anywhere) Missing or replaced hardware(looks like a few pieces are missing, the lower front latch may be replaced, leather strap handles replaced and/or missing hardware? maybe some nails/studs replaced– overall minor in my opinion, but I want bidders to review closely and make their own determination) Overall this is in very solid condition, just has the wear and tear and aging of travel and usage. HI, I have for sale a early 1900's maybe a late 1800's Antique Humpback Trunk. Located in Weston. Wi. by Wausau, WI. 54476. The trunk is in good condition for the age. It has wheels on the bottom, has to outside latches that work fine and a center locking latch I have no key, but not all that hard to finds a key. The outside is made of wood and metal with some leather overlay and wood slates, the bottom is solid, there is no self for the inside and overall in good condition. Victorian Era English Flat-Top Trunk Named: J. A. Galliers Click on photos to SUPERSIZE! Here's a truly fantastic. 19th Century, antique travel trunk for you. This flat-top trunk measures 32" x 19" x 13" The trunk is constructed of black painted metal with wooden gussets. The interior is lined with copper painted metal(I think it may be brass) The trunk has four handles and a key lock on front(the key is missing) There are two cast-iron latches on the front. These latches give the trunk a very unique antique appearance that I don't believe I've seen before. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this fine looking trunk is the markings. The trunk is named in white script"J. A. Galliers" It also has"C/O A.E.O. La Libertad. Unaccompanied Baggage" written on top. The side of the trunk has remnants ... moreof a paper tag. I can just make out a bit of the script which reads in-part: Williamson Merchant, Grace)Church Street, London" The lock is marked"4 Best English Lever" These are the only markings on the trunk. I did a google search for J. A. Galliers and found that there was an author named"John Albert Galliers" living in London. This gentleman passed away in 2011 at the age of 82. I wonder if this could be his old trunk? If so, how did it end up in Columbia, MO, where I recently purchased it at a thrift store? The trunk is in very good condition. As you can see in the photographs. It does show some wear from the age of it, but I think this only ads to the genuine patina(which cannot be faked) I suppose you could refinish the trunk, but I feel as though that would remove much of it's history. If this were my trunk I would have a piece of glass cut for the top and make it into a fantastic coffee table. Trunk is 32" wide.17.5" front to back, 22" to the highest point. Trunk is painted a gold color. Wood strapping is in good condition. Inside has been covered in a cream velvet with padding. Some of the studs holding the main latch are loose. There are no handles. The bottom is sound. There is no support to hold the top up, I backed it up to a wall for photographing. Antique Haunted Shwayder Steampunk Steamer Trunk with Contents This is a very unique and rare auction. You are bidding on an antique trunk and its' contents. A trunk with a very unusual story. Several years ago I purchased a rustic. Old cabin built in 1901 in the woods of the Colorado mountains. There is nothing'normal' about this cabin. One day, as I was getting my furnace updated in the crawlspace, the repairman informed me that there might be an older furnace in the depths of the crawlspace. Curiously, I shimmied my way into the tiny area and came across an old steamer trunk. My hairs stood on end. It was closed but not locked. When I cautiously opened it, I found a few things inside but nothing unusual. I brought those items inside, cleaned them up and placed them on a shelf. As time went by I noticed sounds emitting from ... morethe crawlspace. Not thinking anything of it, I continued on with my days. Then, on one unusual day, I was getting my holding tank pumped out by a new crew of men. One of the fellows mentioned that he heard some noise, a banging sound from the crawlspace and asked me what was down there. I remembered the noises I had heard previously but didn't mention it to him. He then asked me if I would be willing to get my cabin tested for paranormal activity. Apparently, this is something he does on the side. Feeling my hairs stand on end I refused his offer as the last thing I wanted to find out is that there WAS something'paranormal' going on in the space that I lived in! After the men left, I crawled down to the depths of the dusty crawlspace and was shocked to find that the trunk had MOVED! Not only was it in a different spot but it was also laying on its' side, just as you see it in the photos. You may be wondering why I had left the trunk down there. The reason being is that I could NOT get it out! It just physically could not fit through any opening. As if the old cabin was build right over it. And that is a curious mystery on its' own. Antique Steamer Trunk-Dome Top-metal & wood bands-inside tray-circa 1890-1910
Antique dome-topped steamer trunk. Believed to be circa 1890-1910. Wood and most of the metal is in very good shape(could easily be refinished) however, the protective metal bands at corners have received some damage over many years of steamer-travel and freight-handling. The large interior tray is intact, and one of the lid-compartment doors is also intact. Note the decorative panel inside the lid, which is vibrant in color and unblemished. The interior of the trunk has the strong smell of cedar, so I'm assuming that tray construction is of cedar wood underneath the papered covering. Sorry but there is no key. The lid hinges close just slightly"off-center, but the trunk does close and latch securely with care. Great vintage trunk with great wide wood slats over pattered metal. It has a slight dome or curved shape to top. It's missing one the lifting straps onside. But the hardware is there for an easy repair. It has original owners name, P.E. Pierce, stenciled on one side as well. It measures 30" wide across front. 18" deep front to back. and 21" tall at highest point. It has 98% of it's original decorated paper inside. The hinges on back had come and have been repaired with new hardware, making it very secure. It has original cloth strap to hold it open. Please see many photos for best condition report. This is an antique lot of 8 original hardware pcs. off an early steamer trunk good for repurpose repair parts. They are in solid condition but are very old so some rust too backs but nothing terrible. There are 4 pcs. that go on the trunk lid and 4 pcs. the go fro the lid down the side. The straight pcs. are 4" long about ad the others are 3 1/4" because one end goes over the lid top. Each pc. is 1 1/4" wide. Original metal salvaged parts lot! Happy to answer questions! this is a nice small antique doll trunk or salesman sample. I got with an antique bisque head baby doll. It feels like is made out of wood and the stuff atique trunks are made out of it has had the lock cut out and reattached the handle part there is a hole you can see from last pics. Looks like besides lock part has tipical wear from age I would consider in nice antique condition. Has nice leather straps some metal has dents.
