Ladycomet Refinished Victorian Dome Top Steamer Trunk Antique Chest, Straps&Tray
Charming Refinished Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Straps& Buckles and Interior Tray We are selling a nice refinished dome top steamer trunk or travel trunk from the late 1800's. This trunk is made up of poplar and pine base wood with oak or ash outer slat boards. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 23 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 18 inches. The wood has been finished with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax. This one has some typical older nicks and dings in various places. These character marks are present on just about all of the trunks that we refinish. There were some small holes in the wood where either knots were missing or something, and we did fill these holes in. There were several on the front and several on the back, ... morenot on the top or on the sides. These boards were free of any holes. This particular trunk doesn't have hardly any stress cracks in the wood. Usually these trunks do, but this one is good. There is no lock mechanism, although there is a brass square lock plate at the front. The top part of the lock that swings down into the lock plate appears to be original, but there is no engagement mechanism behind this brass lock plate which someone may have put on this trunk some time ago. The lock plate is the only brass on this trunk. We have brush painted the remaining metal by hand in black and gold leaf. The front two latches are cast iron and they do work ok since the springs are still there. A nice pair of leather straps with roller buckles has been installed onto this trunk. In addition to the front latches, they help secure the top to it's base when buckled. They are functional, not just for show. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. Antique Victorian 1800's Chest Dome Top Steamer Trunk Wood/Tin
This beautiful medium sized Dome Top antique trunk. Is in Good condition, with only minor flaws. It measures 18"H x 26 1/2" L x 14" W. The exterior is stunning. Covered beautifully in a black colored tin. With oak slats, accented with black tin hardware, and a nice brass design, that is very desirable amongst collectors. Both side leather straps are in original condition. All of the hardware is original and no longer fasten. There is no key. The inside is beautiful original wood. With steel nail heads showing(see photo) The tray is in nice condition although the lids need to be reattached. See pictures. There are rollers under this beauty, that work well, and look great. It was actually used on a stage coach and in very good condition for its age. Shabby chic rustic and rugged. Made of solid wood and sturdy. On the outside there is a little paint loss on it due to its age. Mostly on the back of the trunk on the bottom. The outside was probably refinished at one point. It was hand or CUSTOM made. Very heavy well made chest. It is solid with no damage to it or its 2 drawers. The drawers are 14 3/4 inches in depth x 20 inches long x 2" wide. In good solid condition. The previous owner told us that it was checked by an expert and was made sometime during the 1840's and except for one handle on the top. Everything else is original. It looks like it may have been used as a gun/pistol box or a storage box for guns. Its bottom drawer is QUITE UNIQUE. The drawer has seven raised wooden compartments in the color blue. That color blue was not be the original color. TWO of those compartments were designed specifically to fit pistols. The other compartments perhaps to hold ammo and anything else related to pistols or guns. The trunk/chest by design does not have any side handles. Four strips of embossed metal adore its domed top. When you open the trunk/chest it will not remain open unless you put something underneath the top to prevent it from closing. Underneath the lid of the trunk there is a secret compartment. The interior is in very good condition. The inside of the trunk is all natural wood. Very clean with no odors. Painted Dome Top Trunk 1800's or Earlier Wooden Chest Unique Must See
This very old painted dome lid trunk or chest is amazing. Unknown age and origin. But it obviously predates the 1900’s, possibly even the 1800’s. Look closely at the paintings– ornate scrolls, flowers, and a bird on the arched lid; flowers on the right end, and a lovely woman in a garden and a flower filled vase on the front panels. It appears as if this were cut in half at one time long ago. My guess is that it might have been a dowry chest from“the old country” that either was damaged or needed to be reduced in size. Perhaps to transport. Inside the lid is very early wallpaper. I’ve left old newspapers inside as I purchased it– 1930’s papers from Philadelphia. This measures 30” long X 21” wide or deep X 17 ½” to the top of the base and 23” to the top of the arched lid. The left end is painted blue– no decorations– probably missing ... morepart of the original chest. I’ve used this for many years as a decorative piece– the left end against a wall. This is first of 2 real nice antique trunks just found this morning here on the Maine coast. This is a dome top(some call it a hump top) trunk which to me is great just the way it is(lots of character) or refinished would be a marvelous piece. It's big. It's heavy and solid, but I will ship it. Antique Wood Chest/ Trunk Dome Top Dovetail Corners Measurements(all approximate) 32 3/4" long(without hardware- add an additional 1" for handle) 10 5/8" deep(without hardware- 11 1/2 with front screw and back hinges) 9 1/4" high(to center of dome- 8 2/3" high to corners) Dovetail corners reinforced by large screws that makes me believe this chest was once used for something heavy. There is a handle at one end only. There are 2 holes side by side and both ends of chest. possibly a location for securing it in place. Possibly the back of a carriage. There are cracks in the wood at the bottom of the chest but it is still quite sturdy! Front of the box has 2 eye hook screws. Paint is worn. Completely gone in places, and faded from time. Plentiful nails and amazing-fine hardware makes this a high-end piece, often known as a Saratoga Trunk. The reason for the curved top is to ensure that this trunk would go on the top of the stack. Rather than having trunks stacked on top of it, damaging the contents. I have not altered or refinished this trunk. I purchased it from a lady who stated it was in the stable area of her very old, victorian home. The home was built in the early 1900's. INSIDE: I believe it is constructed of Pine with a floral paper design. Which means this trunk belonged to a Woman. OUTSIDE: Has a dark metal/tin tone. 4) wooden, Elm? vertical slats on the dome top, 2) horizontal wooden slats ... moreon the front& back, 1) wooden slat on each side. There is a 16" wide Alligator Leather look design area on the top that extends down the front and back and along both sides that is divided by leather slats. I was told this design area is an ornate hammered tin. The metal work is very nice and when this trunk was new, must have been gorgeous. There are(8) metal shield type designs holding down the top wood slats. On the top side ends, there are large metal Crown like designs. There are(2) brown leather handles. 1 handle is torn but repairable. This trunk was definitely for a woman of importance. Approximate Dimensions: 22" High@ the highest-middle 32.5" Wide 17.5" Deep Condition: This trunk is in good antique condition. There is normal wear. Which is expected, due to it's age. The bottom inside does have a few minor cracking in the wood. There is not a lock on the trunk. All the nails& design hardware are there, as far as I can see. A Fantasic Domed Trunk from the 1890s. The design is floral with embossed metal. Similiar to this coming from Paris during the same time frame. The hardware is in tact. The only thing missing are the leather side handles which dried off. It is a beautiful Art Nouveau style trunk that would go for thousands if it had the Louis Vuitton markings. Nevertheless. 1870-1890 Victorian Dome Top Doll Chest Steamer Trunk ~ Original and Unrestored
This eye-catching Victorian dome-top/ camel top trunk is estimated to be from the 1870-1890. It is constructed of light weight wood and is covered in a multi-step process: printed paper is reinforced with wooden slats and then covered in tin pieces. The original maker’s label is on the interior lid of the trunk and depicts a young girl. The trunk was designed to mimic the steamer trunks used by adults of the times. As is common with these trunks. The handles are missing on both ends. Replacements are available on eBay if you choose to replace them. The trunks’ lid closes completely but the clasps do not extend far enough to hook. We have not been able to determine the cause of this but it is still fully functional for storage and display. Early Small Dome Top Trunk/Chest 18th century? Rocking chair in first photo is listed in another auction. They have similar colors but absolutely came from different sources. I date this box from other photos of known pieces: Primitive hand wrought lock. No key, but, not a difficult one to make. Looks older than other locks I know to be early 19th century I measured it a while ago. will have to measure it again, it is*close* to 30" x 20" deep x 24" high. Antique Steamer Trunk Chest Dome/Flat Top Vintage original never restored 1800's
Antique Steamer Trunk. Dome/Flat Top, 100+ years old, original never restored This antique Steamer Trunk is commonly referred to as either a“Dome-Top” or“Flat-Top” It has the rounded front and back edges. It is tin covered with wooden bands. The interior has the original tray. Covered compartments and graphics. The hook that holds the tray up is still intact and holds the tray up and out of the way just fine. The pins that hold the tray in place allowing it to swivel up are also fully intact and working. The graphics have amazingly bright vivid colors and are in pretty good shape considering it is over 100 years old. This trunk has small metal wheels on the bottom for easy transportation. As seen in the pictures. They are a little rusty, but the wheels turn remarkably smooth and freely. The leather strap handles have broken off. But the hardware ... morethat holds them is still intact. Through the years, it has developed mild mildew and rust. please refer to the pictures as full disclosure of the condition) I don’t know the year of this trunk but through research and family history I am guessing it to be from the late 1800’s. My great grandmother was born in 1865. My mother’s family immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1881. My grandmother was born in 1895. My mother was born in 1925. This trunk has been handed down through the generations. My mother knew my grandmother had it. However I don’t know who had it first, my great grandma or grandma. Is it possible it came from Germany and was brought to the United States when they immigrated? One can only imagine the history behind this trunk and where it’s been. Nice Freshened Up Antique Dome Top Steamer Trunk With Working Lock& Key Here is a cute metal dome top that we picked up and freshened it up. There are nine pictures above for you to view. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 30 inches. From floor to top is approximately 22 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 16 1/2 inches. The embossed metal on the top and front has flowers and leaves patterned onto it. This is the original metal and paint from the factory. The rest of the metal has been freshened up and hand painted in black and gold leaf. The outer slat boards appear to be ash or oak and they have been given two coats of polyurethane. This pretty dome top comes with the original working lock. We have matched up a key that does work with this lock. The front two latches are also original ... moreand work well since the springs are still intact. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps. Going to the interior, we have removed the paper lining from the wood since it was worn out looking. The interior wood has been given two coats of polyurethane. A picture of a young person posing has been added to the underside of the dome. A wooden piece has been put from the front on the inside to the back. It has been done so so the trunk lid will line up with the lock and lower latches. Going to the bottom underneath this cute trunk, it has normal wear and it also has the four factory original metal casters on the bottom that still do spin. This one has been pretty much freshened up instead of totally refinished. It did turn out to be nice looking. Especially with the flowered metal. There are twelve pictures above for you to view and some of them are two in one. Here are the trunk's dimensions: from left to right across the front is 32 inches. From floor to top is approximately 26 inches, and from front edge to back edge is 19 1/2 inches. We have removed some of the metal from between the outer slat boards to expose the wood underneath. This beautiful trunk is made up of poplar base wood with ash or oak outer slat boards. We have finished the wood with three coats of polyurethane by Minwax to protect it. There are some typical distress marks in various places on the wood. ... moreThese include older nicks and dings along with some stress cracks. The majority of all trunks have these similar antique markings which have accumulated over the trunk's long journey or existence. This one has the nice vertical outer slat boards along with horizontal slat boards. The trunk maker did a nice job of putting fancy cap metal on these slat boards. The metal parts that make up this trunk are not brass. So we have brush painted the metal by hand in black and gold leaf. A nice feature on this trunk is that it comes with the original patent dated working lock. We have matched up a key that does work in this lock. The key hole cover is patented, Mar 69& Apr 71" We are not always able to match up keys so that the trunk locks work, but in this case we have. The side handles were missing and have been replaced with Amish made black leather stitched straps which are sturdy. The handle cap metal is cast iron with cute little perforated stars and triangles on them. Some of the slat board cap metal is also patent dated. It is hard to make it out clearly, but it looks like patented 16 of 80, referring to possible March 16 of 1880 because we have had similar hardware

Trunk's heavy duty hinges and hasp bound by rivets are better suited for a strong box. Four small iron bun feet are bolted to the bottom of trunk. Measures: 21" tall, 32.5" wide, and 19" deep. Nice Antique 1800's Small Dome Top Child’s Travel Chest
You are bidding on a VERY RARE and Nice Antique 1800's Dome Top Child’s Travel Chest. This chest does need a LOT of tender loving care. This travel chest is a wooden box covered with a designed paper material adorned with leather straps/bands along the bottom of the top lid. It has metal ornate bands holding down the wood strapping. A brass tone front locking mechanism. But we have no key. The box measures 14 inches long x 8 ½ inches wide not counting the wooden strapping and 9 ½ inches tall at the center of the dome. It is in need of restoration but is a very old and unique item that would make a great antique display. Comes from an old estate barn and begs for TLC. Beautiful vintage medium sized trunk/chest. This was an estate sale find. It has beautiful hand carved detailed wood on the front and metal rivets on dome top. In over all good condition however some wear to be noted: One rivet on dome is missing. Some splintering and wear of the wood is visible. It measures about 19.25 in. long, 16 in. tall to highest point of the dome, and 13.5 in. wide. It is a dark wood and looks to be handmade but unsure. This item weighs a bit over 15 pounds and depending on your location may be costly. If you are interested in the purchase of this item and are concerned with the shipping cost know that I will do my best to work with you in finding the least expensive route. Here is a nice medium-sized trunk from the late 1800s or very early 1900s. A very well made dome/ hump top trunk or stage coach chest. We sometimes see these refered to as steamer trunks also. It is made of wood. Trimmed or covered with ornate embossed tin with a great geometric pattern to it. It measures 34" inches wide x 21 1/2" inches deep[front to back] and 24" inches tall– a perfect complement to any rustic decor whether modern or antique. The trunk is constructed of a box with hardwood slats across the top for protection during shipping on all four sides and top. It has been restored with thick stitched brown leather handles which are identical to the originals and a new lid stay to hold it open– otherwise the trunk and all of its hardware are in their original. Peter Ompir Signed Folk Decorated Dome Top Silver Chest with Fitted Interior
An amazing. Folk art decorated, dome top chest, signed Peter Ompir. The chest. 22" wide by 9" high and 11" deep, has been converted to a silver chest with fitted interior, lined with velvet. The chest is in original, estate condition, with a small area on the edge(1" by 2" where paint has been rubbed off. Peter Ompir(1904-1979) was known as the"Dean of Decor Painting" and"Father of American Decorative Painting" Ompir, after art training in the 1920's and 30's, realized early that serious artwork was too pricey for the Depression buyers and began decorating every day items that could be sold easier. He achieved national recognition during the 1950's and through the 1970's, working with two other artists, Warner Wrede and later Porter Rinehouse, created the Peter Ompir creation.
