This antique steamer trunk and it believes from the 1900's. Trunk looks great for its age and is strong and sturdy. Very well made piece. Made of solid vintage wood(I believe to be oak) with brass corners and straps for support. The leather side handles, has small wheels for rolling(one wheel broken) the inside has a removable wood divided tray(very rare for trunks this age) The trunk is the classic early American style it is perfect for the decoration. It is a very small model made by hand to be able to easily transport from potential client to client for sales rather than carrying a heavy. Large, original sized trunk. It is beautifully made with an abundance of nice detailing and many different materials. it is made from wood. Iron, leather, canvas, and linen. it has lonely metal decorative dogs on the front done in high relief and have dangling rings from their mouthes. there is a nice handmade locking mechanism on the front but does not have a key. the inside is nicely lined but would have had a couple more pieces and more of the purple lining. it also has a linen piece on the side to hold the box opened. it is missing the handle part on the sides but still has the mounts so can easily ... morebe replaced. it measures 12 inches long by 9 inches tall by 7 3/4 inches wide. it is in nice antique condition and has normal ware from age. refer to all photos. Nice Small VINTAGE FAUX LEATHER COVERED TRUNK Grip Child Travel Chest Miniature
This lot is a gorgeous little faux leather covered trunk. Probably dating from the early 1900s. It only measures about 14" long by 10" wide by 7" high. I have been informed by an ebayer who seems to have some expertise on old trunks that this piece is covered with fiber or vulcanized fiber. Which looks like leather but is much tougher. I'm not sure if this trunk was originally intended for a child's use or for a lady's personal items. But it is a very high quality, well made piece. Look at the last photo- Even the bottom is finished as well as the rest of the trunk! The original fabric lining is still intact. The only stone I can throw at it is part of the lock mechanism is missing, which is probably a blessing, because it's easy to lock yourself out of an old trunk like this. This is a cool vintage large Louis Vuitton Steamer Trunk! Just add glass for the perfect coffee table! Black trim which wears better and looks less worn than the tan. It is stamped with initials and NY. I love that its from New York! 39" wide x 22" tall x 21" deep Approx 50lbs It is not perfect. Of course. One side has appears to have gotten wet. There is no odor or mold. Just a little wavy and some minor interior stains. Estimated restoration cost is $1250. All proper markings and authenticity is guaranteed(and obvious) Fabulous dream piece! Antique Round Wooden Stagecoach Trunk Brass Gold Rush Era Travel Chest Vintage
For consideration is an antique wood trunk in good condition. The trunk is embellished with square shank brass studs and is lined with a Boston paper(Gleason's Pictorial Drawing Room Companion) that is dated 1851. The former owner(an elderly woman in Southern NH) said that it was in her family as long as she could remember. Though she couldn't give additional concrete details. Her grandfather had gone to California during the gold rush, but she couldn't be sure this trunk belonged to him. On top of the trunk are the initials"B.B. Their last name starts with a"B" but her grandfather's first name didn't start with"B. She kept it in back of her rocking chair. Which is why there are scratches on the right side of the trunk. There are some holes that appear to have had brass tacks in them at some point, ... morebut they don't line up with the tacks that are currently there. It looks like someone may have taken the original tacks off and put these on. I'm wondering if there was an early refinishing of the trunk which may have required the tacks to be removed and then replaced. You'll notice that there are missing tacks on the front near the latch and one missing on top of the trunk. There are very old pads on the bottom of the trunk. Most of the hardware appears original. One of the hinges on the back is still attached entirely with old rose head nails. There are several newer(but still old) screws that have been used in repairing or reinforcing the trunk and its hardware. The wrought iron handles are period. The trunk has a nice honey color. The interior is heavily soiled and I didn't attempt to clean it as I wanted to preserve the paper lining. It's approximately 24" wide by 12" in diameter.
