Antique Caneware Hatching Chicks Large Game Pie Dish w Underplate Signed WS&S
Offered here is a beautifully molded large caneware game pie dish and a matching undertray. This caneware game pie dish has the form of a woven wicker basket. And the cover has three full-figured hatching chicks on it amidst a wheat bed of full flowered grain. The undertray also features a grain motif all along its wide rim. This set was made by Wilhelm Schiller& Son, and it is hallmarked on the bottom of the tureen with their WS&S mark. Caneware is a tan-colored. Unglazed stoneware. In the 1780's Wedgwood created the first Caneware game pie dishes with ornamental covers. Like this one, game pie dishes often had raised bas-relief animals reminiscent of poultry or game. Caneware was made by a number of other companies in the 19th century, and was often used for cooking or serving pieces. And the game pie dish measures 8 3/8" across by 7 1/2" tall. All pieces are in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The inner rim of the dish has a few tiny"nibbles" here and there, but they are very minor. What strikes me is how crisply molded this set is, and how clean it is for being some 150-200 years old. Antique Flow Blue Tureen with Scene of Trematon Castle by R. Hall This very dark flow blue tureen was produced by Ralph Hall in Staffordshire. England in the early 1800s. This earthenware bowl has the picture transfer of Trematon Castle in Cornwall on both sides of the tureen and in the middle. The tureen has a decorative border on both the inside and outside and at the bottom. It is 7 3/4" from handle to handle and 3 3/4" across the middle. Antique Staffordshire Lions Head/Handles Covered Large Tureen
Here is a fabulous antique English blue and white transferware tureen with no markings. The lid has been professionally repaired. One can really only tell by the reglazing on the inside and very clever touch up to the flowers and swan I think, really hard to discern in my opinion. One lion has an old hairline and there are several pit marks and signs of wear. Also one tiny white spot which may be a drip of paint or clay when it was restored but I cannot remove, it is flat and a perfect tiny circle. Please look at all of the pictures. I tried to show more of the wrinkles but also enjoy the beauty of this fine tureen. It measures almost 11" across and about 14" including the lions head handles. Bridgwood & Son ca.1854-85 Porcelaine Opaque White 6.5T Tureen Lily Blossoms-VGC
Offered is my antique oval white tureen or covered dish with a very pretty Lily shaped knob on the lid and scrolling leaves and blossoms encircling the lid and the sides of the bowl. The handles are done in a twisted rope-like design and are firmly attached. Of note and as shown. Is that the lid sits just a bit crooked off the base in one position, but is more evenly level when turned and placed the other direction. This is not unusual. As I have often noticed this occurs with other antique pottery This‘Porcelaine Opaque’ tureen is simply white with no chips. Cracks or flaws, other than the normal crazing for a piece so old and some resultant toning discoloration in areas, as shown. And to be completely accurate. There is a firing flaw glaze skip to the bottom, plus a little wear to the bottom, as shown in the photos. The potter’s mark on ... morethe bottom is rather difficult to read. But here is what I see: At top it says PORCELAINE OPAQUE- then a lion on left& maybe A unicorn on right. With a vertical elongated crown shape in between saying H?NISOIT? and beneath that on banner within this crown motif says DIE? ET- M&N? DR? IT(Must be Latin and not English. Since I cannot neither read nor understand this, but maybe some of you can. Below all this is a larger banner: BRIDGWOOD& SON Although I could not find this identical mark. Per Godden’s and Kovel’s books, the approximate estimated dating range is 19 th century and most likely between1854 and 1885. And in general. BRIDGWOOD& SON” Longton, Staffordshire, England/ Earthenware, porcelain 1885(ca. 1805-present) or in in Godden’s it says“LONGTON, Great Britain, Bridgwood and Son, 19th century. Measurements Are Close. ANTIQUE PAIR OF EARLY POTTERY TUREENS W/UNDERPLATES & SERVING DISH
Fabulous pair of early antique ceramic covered tureens with underplates. They are decorated with a handpainted floral Asian motif. There are different colored vines of flowers with people. Small buildings and a phoenix. Also with the pair is a matching square serving dish, with the same decoration. The handles and edges are a deep cobalt blue and have gold/accents. They are marked with a Crown and the letter G beneath it. The serving dish is 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" There is some staining and one corner has been repaired. The underplates are 7 1/2" diameter and one has a chip on the bottom. One tureen is in good condition, while the second one has two chips on one handle. These measure 6 3/4" handle to handle, 4 7/8" diameter and 3 5/8" to the edge. They are 6" tall with the lids. Both lids have had damage and have ... morebeen repaired. Oriental Asian Vietnamese Ceramic Cobalt Blue & White Soup Tureen Centerpiece
These lovely. Unique hand-made, hand-painted soup tureen and coordinating plate were found in a tiny Vietnamese pottery shop over 20 years ago. I cannot vouch for their Vietnamese or Asian heritage although it is easy to see they are hand-made and hand-painted. As shown in the photos, there are no maker's marks. At over nine pounds, they are quite heavy ceramic and are dishwasher safe. There is a half-inch superficial chip out of sight on the bottom of the soup tureen. The plate is 12" in diameter. The Sauce Tureen is a very fine early 19th Century Staffordshire example, most likely made by Leeds. The Tureen is in excellent all original condition with only light wear throughout and no chips, cracks or repairs. The Tureen displays beautifully measuring 7" long across the handles by 4-1/4" wide and sits 5" tall. The Tureen is also very light and finely made weighing just? ounces. English Pottery Covered Tureen & Underplate ~ EXOTIC BIRDS & BUTTERFLIES ~ No.2
English Staffordshire Pottery Handpainted& Gilded Covered Tureen& Undertray c1850 ~ Exotic Birds in Trees With Butterflies and Roses ~ No. 2 As Found Good Display Condition ~ 6 1/2" high to top of finial ~ about 6 1/2" across the top of the tureen ~ ~ diameter of the under tray is 7 7/8" ~ combined weight of all three pieces is 3 pounds I am listing two of these tureens; they both display very well. Especially together. Both are beautifully decorated with hand painted birds and butterflies and trimmed in glossy gold foliate borders. The finial to the lid is a flower bud and leaves that is also gilded. See all the pics; the pics of the bottoms are above. Both of these have areas with more crazing to the glaze than others; the under trays show most crazing. They also both have some sort of purplish staining which I believe ... morewas done in the making with purple pigment; it shows around the extended rim of the bowl and some spots beneath. This tureen no. 2 displays very well especially from one side; one side has a couple of chips at the rim and this lid has had the finial broken are repaired. This one also has a spot of the purplish staining you can see above on the side of tureen. This one is sold as found because of the damage but still displays beautifully. I'm happy to combine shipping if you choose to buy both tureens. Above; the under tray has several tiny black spots that were done in the making and under the glaze. I have closely inspected all pieces and have found a few minor flaws. Overall. Everything looks stunning and is certainly a collection worthy piece. Underplate: On the underplate there is two small chips under one of the handles. There is also a small hairline crack under the other handle. There is some minor crazing and signs of use such as a few surface scratches on the front of the plate. Overall it looks wonderful and has a shiny finish. Tureen Lid: The lid is also in great shape with minimal wear. It does not have any chips but I did notice one 1" long hairline crack that has developed over the years. Beautiful antique soup tureen sat safely on my Mother's dry sink all these years so it's condition is pristine. 12" high( tureen w top) by 14" wide on the tray. The design is a plain fluted style with no additional ornamentation. Pictures show that there are no cracks or chips. Quite beautiful!
