Antique John and James Edwards White Ironstone Covered Vegetable Tureen. This is an lovely old antique ironstone tureen. The impressed potters mark seems ... moreindicates it was made by J & J Edwards Manufacturer, Fenton , Stoke on Trent ,England. . (The mark is very difficult to decipher). This would indicate pre 1865 . The partnership between John and James dissolved in 1865 and was then operated as John Edwards. The covered dish is heavily crazed and has areas of staining and discoloration. There is an old chip on one of the handles. Please see photos for condition. 6 in tall x 11.25 in long x 7 in wide

James Edwards Dale Hall Ironstone Soup Tureen, Vine Pattern, c. 1850
James Edwards was among the pottery makers in Staffordshire. England, who originated the process for making ironstone and transferware. This soup tureen. Dating from about 1850, is one of his creations in the purple transferware pattern“Vine. There are relatively few Vine pieces available. And so far as I know, this is the only soup tureen available for purchase. The pod-shaped lid finial is very unusual. The English pottery houses used design elements for the American market that were familiar to the westward moving population. Please take note of the finial in the photographs. Size: The tureen is 10 ¾” high to the top of the lid finial. It is 13 ½” wide handle to handle. The underplate is 10 3/8” in diameter. Condition: The condition is fairly good considering its age of about 160 years. It has some crazing and stains. And there ... moreis a fairly large hairline crack in the finish of the lid, but it does not go through the ironstone itself. This is very special preserved item of JAMES EDWARDS AND SON WHITE IRONSTONE TUREEN WITH LID. This piece of English china is still very nice and in good condition. It is mildly veined all over the surface and has some typical tan after years of service. There is one tiny vein crack sign near the top on the tureen and another even smaller at the same side. But nothing serious as you can see from the pictures. From bellow side you will find maker's mark. Design is simple and practical with some flowered decoration on the lid. Unusual 1847 James Edwards Ironstone Tureen Tiffany Sterling Make-Do Handle
Up for sale is this interesting Staffordshire covered tureen. The lid with a Tiffany sterling handle. It measures a little under 7 inches tall and a little over 7 inches across with the handles. The lid was most likely repaired by Tiffany's, the handle is marked TIFFANY& CO STERLING. The tureen and lid both bear English registry marks for 1847 and are stamped warranted. Condition is not great with two issues, one being a hairline measuring a bit over an inch long in the lid beginning in the spoon hole, pictured, the other is a small triangular shaped loss on the outside upper rim of the tureen, pictured. There is one noticeable flake on the lid rest as well as a bit of fritting on the lid rest inner rim, and two small flakes on the bottom edge of the tureen. You can examine all of this in the photos. Beautiful Ironstone James Edwards Tureen for auction. Great condition with a minor chip on the inside lid and on the base plus a couple tiny stains on handles. The chip on the inside is not visible when the cover is on. Please see pictures for more detail. Other than that the item is in beautiful condition. Octagon White Ironstone Covered Vegetable Bowl Tureen w Lid Circa: 1848 Condition: E xcellent An tique C ondition Color: W hite Manufacturer: Registered James Edwards Pottery Here is a fabulous white i ronstone covered vegetable server or tureen dating to the middle of the 1800's. T he exact year that the James Edwards pottery registered this shape is unknown but I like to call it Octagonal Bliss. It bears the same pottery's imprinted mark on both pieces. It measures 12' across the handle b y 10” and stands 7” tall. Condition is very good given the age. There is a tiny spider type crazing pattern underneath of the domed lid. And does not in any way distract from being a very beautiful and displayable piece; or functionality of this true antique. The design consists of what looks like branches of a tree for the finial and handles. ... moreDating: This tureen was made by the James Edwards company in Burslem. Staffordshire in England. The printed Royal Arms motif is fairly common in the 19th century. But the diamond-shaped registry mark indicates the year and day this was manufactured. According to the date codes on it. This was produced on September 29th, 1851. The"IV" on the top is the code for clay vessels. The"P" represents 1851, the"D" September and the"29" is the day of the month. the"4" on the bottom is the package or bundle number. It is also interesting to note that James Edwards was the first to export this practical and beautiful ironstone ware to the Americas beginning in 1840. IRONSTONE COVERED VEGETABLE DISH 1848 JAMES EDWARDS ENGLISH RD# I am offering for your consideration this absolutely beautiful white ironstone covered vegetable dish by James Edwards in the Square Tumbling Petals shape with the rosebud finial. This piece of ironstone is absolutely beautiful and still retains that glossy glaze with no crazing- it looks like a piece that has been hidden away in someone's cupboard for many. Many years untouched. There is one slight boo-boo on it and that is a 1/2" chip on the foot(see picture) but no other chips, no cracks and no crazing. The finial on the lid is a rosebud with embossed leaves surrounding it. It has the English RD# 56633 and backstamp dating it's registry to December 16, 1848. It measures 10" wide from handle to handle and is 6 1/2" tall to the top of the finial.
