The scene appears to be Japanese and the dish is in remarkable ... moreshape for its age. With a nice glossy glaze. The lid and dish are both beautifully decorated. Top handle is a floral decoration and the inside of the dish has transferred designs on it as opposed to being blank. Some of the glaze is gone in a few places. But there are no chips or cracks. There is isolated crazing throughout blank areas of the piece and a few areas of minor discoloration. Inside of the bowl has fine scratches which are only noticeable in the light. The piece has a minuscule mark I could only capture with a loupe on top of it. It resembles an 8 or B with a hook on top of it and a K underneath it. Up for auction today is a center bowl with under plate marked Thomas Elsmore& Son. England. It has an aesthetic movement motif. The design looks to be brown transferware with touches of color. The pattern is Japanese/Oriental style with groups of blooming flowers, decorated fans, butterflies and geometric designs. The mark indicates a date of 1872-1887. Condition is good with one chip on bottom rim of platter. No repairs. Some crazing and staining which is characteristic of this style transfer ware. Up for auction just in time for the holidays. Is this stunningly beautiful Antique tureen with brown transferware design. This piece is unmarked aside from numbers on the bottom(see photo 4) and on the inside on the lid(photo 3) The lovely floral designs look like forget-me-not flowers and they show a hint of pink color. But just a hint. There looks to have one time been some trim of this. But it is worn off in places. The florals are unworn. There are no chips or cracks on this piece. Which is remarkable. There are dots of brown on interior of lid which I think happened during firing as they are under the glaze. I don't know maker. Origin or design name, unfortunately. This was purchased at a high-end, Boise Idaho Estate sale where there was alot of transferware from England. This is a well used and well loved platter. It is large. 16 3/4" by 11 1/2" It is in a rectangular shape with scalloped corners. This platter is by Brownfield& Sons and is in the Berne pattern. It has the registry mark confirming it was manufactured in 1885. It also has an impressed registry mark and maker's mark. As you can see from the pictures it has some brown staining on the front and the back. There are no chips or cracks. It weighs almost four pounds. It has crazing and the wear marks on the back from scooting it across the table and stove. England during the early 1800s. The sauce tureen features William Penn making his treaty with the Eastern Woodland Indians near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The border displays a geometric pattern and the edge is scalloped with open work handles and finial on the lid. The bottom displays the pattern name and overall the sauce tureen stands about 6 1/8" tall and measures approximately 9" in length. Item Condition: The overall condition of the sauce tureen is excellent. It is extremely clean with no chips. Cracks, or repairs, with the exception of a tight hairline on one side of the foot ... morewhere overspray was applied at some point in its life. This does not show through to the inside of the tureen and it does not extend up into the body of the tureen. The white earthenware is still very bright and clean with minor staining on the interior and the brown color is extremely deep with nice contrast. The glaze is glossy with fine consistent crazing on the lid and the edges display minimal glaze loss or rubbing. There are light utensil marks on the interior of the tureen as well. It measures approx. 15 1/2" x 9 3/4" x 8 1/2" and is in good condition. We found a hairline crack on the outside of the piece with an"X" shape to it. Antique Brown Transferware Tureen with Lid RUSTIC Pattern A. F. Co. England
This lovely c1891 antique brown and white"Rustic" pattern English vegetable tureen was made by the A. F. Company(possibly Alfred Fenton) in England. With the handles. It measures approximately 11" across and about 5 1/2" in height. The condition is quite nice for its age. The base has a tiny dark 1/4" line at the top rim near one handle(see close up) and a tiny little dark flake off the top rim. The lid has two corners chipped but fortunately they are on the same side which can be turned to the back when on display. Please view all 10 photos for condition. There is a very minor amount of overall wear as it was used but gently. It most definitely displays perfectly! Please ask any questions you have before bidding as all sales are final. Antique 1880 G L Ashworth Bros "Victoria" Brown Transferware Vegetable Tureen
This is a beautiful and rare piece of Antique brown Ironstone transferware made by G. L. Ashworth Bros. Made in the 1880's. It has a scene of lovely flowers and little bees all over it and it is in wonderful condition for being about 135 years old. Please check out all pics for further detail. It measures 11"x8" and is able to hold 10 cups. The finish on it is beautiful with very little wear. The only issue to note is a tiny patch of damage under the lid. Antique Brown & White Aesthetic Transferware Tureen, Vegetable Serving Dish
Beautiful antique tureen in almost-perfect condition. This has not suffered any abuse over the years. It has no chips. No cracks, no hairlines, no fleabites, no nibbles. It doesn't even have any crazing so there's no staining or toning. The surface& inside are both clean& shiny. It does have the 3 tiny pinpoints inside both the bottom& the top from manufacturing. There is a small surface rub or perhaps a glaze bubble pop on one corner, but it's only mentioned for complete accuracy. I don't see it as actual damage, especially since it's only about 1/8 of an inch& only in the top layer of glaze. It measures approximately 10 1/2 by 6 1/2 inches. It's unmarked on the bottom and sits solidly on the table. You won't be disappointed with this treasure. I'm starting it at a bargain price. STAFFORDSHIRE BROWN TRANSFERWARE ITALIAN VILLAS TUREEN JOSEPH HEATH C1838
This is a gorgeous brown transferware tureen measuring 12 1/2 inches from handle to handle; 9 1/2 inches across; and approximately 7 inches tall. On a scale of 1-10. I give it a 9. It's almost 200 years old. The lid is perfect. The base has some small issues. No chips or cracks. A hairline on the underside measuring approximately 2 inches showing inside the well approximately 1 inch which I can barely feel with my fingernail. There are three pea sized glaze chips at approximately 10:00. 2:00 and 7:00. There is much tinier glaze chips just in front of the one at 2:00. One of the handles has an area of glaze loss.
