VANTINES 1920s ART DECO INCENSE BURNER #1257 FRENCH ART DECO FLORAL FRANCE NR
A beautifully designed incense burner with stylized flora. The finish is excellent. Almost none is worn off. In the photos it might appear as though the edges show base metal, they don't, it's just the way the light hits it in the picture. As you can see there is a piece of the rim of the bowl missing. I just had that side at the back. There are a few very very tiny nicks in inconspicuous places, there so small that you can't see them except under close inspection. Overall height is 7-3/4" The main body without the lit is 5-5/8" high and 2-5/8"w at it's widest point. The diameter of the base is 2-3/4" The measurements of the lid are 2" high and 2-1/8" in dia. Vantines French Art Deco/Egyptian Revival Metalware FLAPPER GIRL Incense Burner
You are bidding on one stunning incense burner. This unusual piece is part of Vantine's French Metalware that combined Art Deco with Egyptian Revival. It is a very special piece that I've been told is most likely circa 1940. I had another antique dealer tell me it was closer to the 1920's so I'm not quite sure. Another question they had was whether or not the wooden base was added after the fact. Either way. The piece is magnificent. I wish I could pinpoint the information better because I adore this piece, but the only consistent pieces of information were the maker and the value and the fact that this piece is rare and special. The flapper girl-like woman is posing with an arched back. One leg in front, one leg in back, holding a dish that is used to burn incense. This has been used for this purpose before. There are a few ... morespots on this piece. But it looks like it's mainly due to her age, whether it's 74 or 94. There's some whitening under her feet and knee and a few small spots throughout. There is also a hairline crack in the wood right behind her back foot. A small piece of metal must have gotten loose at one point because if you shake her, you hear it rattling. On the bottom, there is some wear on the felt piece. All of the flaws listed are MINOR. When you look at this as a whole, it's breathtaking! The detail on her clothing and on the base is amazing! Please make sure to look at all of the pictures and read the description. I always try to photograph the good and not so good so you know exactly what you're bidding on. Authentic Vantine's Egyptian maiden figural incense burner. Made in France in the 1920's during the Egyptian Revival period popularized by the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922. This beautiful Art Deco styled antique figurine is cast in a darkened silver finished metal with exquisite detail. Art Deco bird incense burner from Vantine's Oriental import store in New York City around the 1920's. It is metal and hollow with a removable incense burning tray. NO RESERVE… This auction is for an old Deco Era Vantines Incense Burner. The Figure measures approx. 9 inches tall. And about 3 1/4 inch square at the base. The paint looks original and in nice condition. There are some age paint and metal nicks, but nothing terrible. The original felt pad bottom is gone off the bottom of the base. I have 2 closed up photos with yellow paper arrows pointing at the very top tip of her head piece. There should be a pointed edge at the very center top. It was likely knocked or banged at this spot nicking the point off the crown. It was likely touched up. As it is hard to detect. The only reason I know it is like this is because I have had this same figure a few times over the years, so I know there should be a point.
