She is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886. The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata(a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence. Candlesticks, and other pieces were made of spelter and given a bronze or painted finish. Early twentieth-century Art Nouveau and Art Deco figures and lamps were often made of spelter. The metal has been used since about the 1860s to make statues. Tablewares, and lamps that resemble bronze. Spelter is soft and breaks easily. To test for spelter. Scratch the base of the piece. Art Deco German Figural Dancer Lamp Marble Ivorine Spelter Machine Age RARE
For bid is a great old German figural lamp. Base is marble with 3/16” holes drilled around base and top toallow light to filter through when switched on. Metal dancer may be spelter but is brass in color and heavy. Face and hands are an Ivorine material. The thumb on the right hand is missing. Deco details abound on the figurine. Comes with 2-prong chord in good condition with twist switch. The lighted base lights up when switch is on. It casts a beautiful glow! Base measures 4” in diameter and is 4 ½” tall. We have for sale these two vintage spelter metal based lamps. These set of twins stand 21 1/2 inches tall from their base to the top of their uniquely designed frosted glass trimmed shades. Each one has it's own stylish lady on one bended knee. While holding a bountiful pot overhead. A lovely example of classic Art Nouveau. They both have been rewired and as you can see, are in working order. One of them has evidence of the house dire it was in a few years back, but mostly all it did was make the metal more shiny in some spots and a little darker in others, which really just adds more character, so I'm reluctant to call it"smoke damage" but please look carefully from the pictures provided and judge for yourselves. Art Deco Marble & Spelter Figural Lamp Nightlight Lady Dancer Burlesque Vintage
Here is a lovely little lamp. Approximately 11 inches tall. I have never sold anything like this so I'll do my best to describe it, and hopefully the pictures speak volumes as well. Please feel free to ask questions! The statue of the lady on top is what I believe would be called spelter. She is entirely metal of a dark color which was painted. Or cast, in a silvery finish. The silver is not bright silver, more of a pewter in color. I know this to be the case because there are a few small scratches to this finish(see picture of her shoulder) which show a darker color under the silver finish. The only part of the dancer not silver is her face, which seems to be most likely of celluloid, with painted eyes and lips. There is a tiny dark spot on her nose which I think is from the mold they used on her face. There is no damage to the piece ... morebesides the small scratches in the finish, the worst are on her shoulder, again, please refer to the picture. She's really lovely, I think she is modeled after Marlene Dietrich. The metal figure is bolted onto a piece of white marble. The marble piece is shaped like a drum. The side of the drum is carved and the carving painted with gold to look even more like a drum. The marble is hallowed out and the light is mounted inside. I would suggest rewiring as I believe what is here is original, and probably not to UL standards. However, it seems to work just fine. I put in a new 4 watt night light bulb(included) and the glow of the light through the marble is lovely. The light is mounted with wire, and one of the two mountings is broken(see picture) but still seems very solid. The lamp cord has an Bakelite on/off switch so you don't have to plug and unplug it all the time. There are a few surface scratches on the marble, they may be actual scratches or just how the marble is, I'm not sure. ART DECO FLAPPER GIRL CRACKLE GLOBE TABLE LAMP Art Deco flapper girl table lamp. This lamp is of a dark bronze patina of two ladies high stepping on each side of the lamp. Lamp has the original amber crackle globe that when turned on gives it a great glowing effect. The globe is 5 inches round with a base to set in the lamp. An art deco Spelter Egyptian revival figural lady candlestick
An art deco Egyptian revival spelter candlestick in the form of a lady, Condition. There are cracks to both ankles as shown and missing big toe to right foot. The figure is stable, The"gold" paint is messy in some areas, I think it may have been overpainted at sometime. The black paint has some scuffs but looks to be original although I have seen these candlesticks with more colour to the clothing. Apart from the faults it does display well. It comes from France around 1930. The large pate de verre(glasspaste) shade is of very high quality and comes from the famous art glass company Schneider. It is signed in the mould: SCHNEIDER The lamp has been cleaned and has been rewired with a new three way(protective earth contact) twisted rayon covered cord. It has a vintage french B22 socket and a german Schuko plug. Art Deco Figural African Elephant Spelter Metal Gilt Table Desk Lamp Base NR
This is a fantastic Early 20th Century Art Deco period figural lamp base. A fabulously formed and detailed African Elephant shape. It may have been made by the Jennings brothers company. It is a metal spelter made piece. A solid heavy piece in great quality. It has a great old gold colored patination to it. It is unmarked. It was factory made to be a lamp. It has a threaded rod coming out the top for attaching a socket or another extension of a rod. And a lined hole on the back for the cord to come out of. It measures approx. 4-3/4" by 6-1/4" by 3" The elephant has long tusks and a large trunk with great ears. He is standing on a two level plinth base. It has old original patina and wear to the surface in areas. Which shows its age and has a great look to it. Nothing broken or cracked.
