STUNNING CZECH BAUHAUS STYLE MODERNIST LAMP, “THE CYCLOPS”
For sale is a fabulous and very rare Czech modernist lamp designed in the late 1930s. According to one authority. The lamp was designed by Vaclav Kocura in 1938 and is model Vako 38. From his research he reports that this lamp was“developed as a discreet night light for reading” in a period just before the outbreak of the Second World War when Czechoslovakia was threatened by German aerial attack. That would explain the lamp’s remarkably intelligent design that allows for light to be directed in a concentrated fashion to meet the requirements of any blackout and to avoid detection at the same time. Another authority lists the lamp as having been designed by Zak Chran. Again. According to the first authority quoted, an example of this lamp is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague. This very rare and compelling ... morelamp is made of nickeled metal and consists of a rotating spherical shade with a single“eye” hence its nickname. The“Cyclops” lamp) that can be locked into position by tightening the serrated knob to the right of the shade. The Glass Plate is intact with no cracks and the flo resce nt b ulbs are working fine. This is circa 1920s and is a banker's or lawyers lamp. A similar lamp that did not work sold for $185 on Ebay. Original 1950s AEG desk fan. The motor casing and stem are made of metal lacquered cream. The blades and head are made of maroon Bakelite and are fitted with a protective aluminium grid(its front has been lacquered cream) The motor casing and stem are fixed to a foot made of cast iron lacquered cream. There is a ball joint at the base of the stem allowing for adjustments of the head. The original switch is on the front of the base. The AEG label is present at the front of the base. Please note the fan is 125volts 22 watts. Good vintage condition and in full working order. There are some age related marks. Small chips and scratches on the cream lacquer work. Vintage Art Deco Bauhaus Style Table Lamp Glass Shade Torchiere Up for auction is this Vintage Art Deco. Bauhaus style table lamp. Made of brass and wood, this style of lamp dates to the 1930/1940's. The shade is frosted glass and resembles a flying saucer in shape with a smooth top section and ribbed around the center and bottom. A handsome piece and would look good in a study or lounge. Unmarked. In good vintage working condition. Has original wiring. Lamp measures 23” tall with shade(17” without shade) The base has a 7½“ diameter. The glass shade measures 6” high and 7” wide and has a 2” fitter. This item is in used condition. See photos. The base has some peeling paint but in good structural condition. ART DECO Bauhaus-Style CHROME & GLASS TRAY Machine-Age
The tray is made of chrome plated brass and etched glass. It measures 16 ½” by 10 ¼” and weighs almost 5-pounds. It is in nice condition with some light wear. There is a bit of light scratching and a chip on the edge of the glass. See close-up. The tray is not marked or signed and I do not know the age.
