Here's a Great Pair of Antique 1930's Art Deco Wood Bookends With Highly Stylized Nude Ladies. Offered at NO RESERVE! The bookends have thick silhouettes of nude ladies leaning backward and retain the original red, black and white paint. These were likely made from plans or in a woodworking shop or class. I think the original paint is great with the red in particular having a heavily mottled appearance. They used to have felt on the bases and the ends that would meet the books, but most of that is gone; also there are various chips and other wear to the paint, none of which I think are too distracting. This is a original pair of nude art deco ladies. They are bookends made of spelter metal with a bronze color overlay. They are Nuart Frankart styled. They measure 4 1/2 inches in height and are 3 3/8 inches deep and 3 1/2 inches at the widest point. There are some condition issues. There is rubbing to some of the color but one has significant damage with a cracked base and missing some metal under the legs as shown in photo. These rarely seen bookends were made by the Gotham Art Bronze Company. Circa 1930. According to the Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends, these bronze clad and polychrome bookends are titled"Outrageous" and are assigned a rarity of 5 out of 5. The dimensions are 6 1/2 inches high, 5 inches long, 3 inches wide, and they weigh over 4 pounds for the pair. The bookends display beautifully. With a striking silhouette and a dramatic profile. Condition issues include splitting of the bronze in the area behind the knee and thigh. Some of the finish has faded or flaked off, and there are some scrapes and wear on the bases. This rarely seen pair of bookends features a nude woman resting on a wall. Her drape has fallen away and she is holding a lyre with her left hand. And her dog rests by her side. I would estimate these bookends are from the 1930s, and although they are not signed, they are of the same quality and era as Ronson, Pompeian Bronze, Hirsch or Jennings Bros. They are made of metal, perhaps copper or bronzed, and they weigh just under 5 pounds for the pair. The dimensions are 6 1/3 inches high, 5 1/2 long and 3 1/2 inches deep. Up for sale is a pair of vintage 1923 Frankart Inc. Art Deco"Dainty" B-403 nude female sculpture bookends in a gray color. Each bookend is 9" tall and the base is 3 1/4" wide by 2 1/4" deep. The vintage condition is very good with no chips or cracks. There is an indentation on the front of one of the bases. And a small bit of paint missing from the side of the second bookend base(see last photo) There are scratches in the paint from age and use. Offered for auction is a pair of art deco Frankart nude woman figural bookends mounted on black slate bases. Each nude is about 9" high x 3.5" wide x about 4.25" deep on a black slate base that measures 4.5" x 5.5" x.75" The whole piece is about 9.5" high Each lady is leaning back on a shell-shaped pedestal. I'm not sure of the metal. Which has a very dark bronze color. I believe that it is white metal, spelter, cast metal with a bronze-type coating or patina. The bases have some minimal flea bites(shown in he photos) but, basically, all is in nice condition. There is a story behind these: They were purchased in the 1940's by a couple in Great Neck. The items are a Very Rare Pair of Antique Collectable Ronson Art Deco Nude Ladies Bookend Sculptures. The name of these lovely ladies is"Just One Tiptoe" They are from the mid 1920's and are in great condition(see pictures) They look to be made of bronze and other metals. With the original polished gold finish, and weigh 3 pounds each. The condition of this beautiful set is wonderful, with incredible detail and workmanship. Each measures 11 inches tall x 4 inches wide x 3 inches deep. These are very rare, and highly collectable, and considering the age and condition, will only go up in value as time goes by.
