Cured by long immersion in formaldehyde, it became a useful thermosetting material, which can be carved or embossed in beautiful patterns. It's color doesn't change over time. The colors you can find are mostly plain opaque colors. Sometimes with marbling or translucency. Galalith pieces are machined. Sanded or hand-finished and therefore there should be no marks left on them(in opposition to cheap mass produced plastics) so all pieces are seamless and this material belonging to the plastic family such as Bakelite, or Celluloid or Lucite is considered to be a top quality chunky plastic. Galalith is impossible to test like genuine American Bakelite because the chemical composition is: milk protein hardened with formaldehyde. Mostly produce in Europe during the first part of the 20th century, this semi-synthetic plastic(Casein is the generic name) is made from skimmed milk curdled with rennet. Cured by long immersion in formaldehyde, it became a useful thermosetting material, which can be carved or embossed in beautiful patterns. It's color doesn't change over time. The colors you can find are mostly plain opaque colors. Sometimes with marbling or translucency. Galalith pieces are machined. Sanded or hand-finished and therefore there should be no marks left on them(in opposition to cheap mass produced plastics) so all pieces are seamless and this material belonging to the plastic family such as Bakelite, or Celluloid or Lucite is considered to be a top quality chunky plastic. Galalith is impossible to test like genuine American Bakelite because the chemical composition is: milk protein hardened with formaldehyde. This auction is for an impressive and well detailed Art Deco macassar wood and metal(probably chrome) model of a three sail yacht.It is well detailed and is in good condition although one of the end sails slips from its position.As I am probably the least practically minded person on eBay I can only assume this would be a simple adjustment to hold in place but won't undertake to do it myself. At it's widest point the yacht measure 45.5cm(17 7/8 inches) and at its tallest point is 34cm(13 7/8 inches) Please note this is rather a heavy item and this refected in the postage costs.
