This is a lovely pair of Art Deco spelter horses mounted on black marble(or similar) bases. Which I discovered recently at a flea-market in northern France. They display well as they are, but(in case you want a practical use for them) they were probably originally designed to be used as a pair of book-ends. There is a little gentle scratching to one of the bases and a very small chip to one corner of the same base. This hardly detracts, but I felt it worth mentioning, and otherwise, they are in very good pre-owned condition. Please note, that due to Royal Mail's pricing structure it will be cheaper to send the horses in 2 separate parcels(the price quoted is for both parcels)

Superb Pair c1925s French ART DECO Modernist Craquelure/ Craquelé Bookends designed by C.Levi for Sainte-Radegonde Fine pair of geometric elephants designed by Claude Levi in the 1920s for the Faiencerie Saint-Radegonde-les Tours. France. They are in an ivory-coloured craqueleure enamel glaze. Levi briefly designed for Saint-Radegonde Factory in the 1920’s and his craquelure animals were shown at the Paris Exhibition of 1925 that launched the Art Deco movement around the world. These are a stunning pair of Art Deco bookends that are in the form of deer and the casting and detail are wonderful and crisp and clear. The casting and detail are so very Deco and are totally evocative of this stunning era. The sculptures of the deer are both signed"Gallot" and I am advised these are French. There are lots of deco bookends but what makes these wonderful is that both of the sculptures are fully signed. They are in excellent condition and there are no damage to the black veined marble bases and the sculptures are in lovely antique condition with no dings or damage. These are period pieces and as such show minor signs of use and the odd light surface scratch but this is consummate to the age of these beautiful pieces. BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF FRENCH ART DECO BOOKENDS 1920'S TO 1930'S MARBLE BASE WITH TWO SPELTER BIRDS SITTING ON A BRANCH GOOD CONDITION These two bookends were produced in the 1920's and 1930's in France and consist of a marble base that measures 13cm in Length x 8 cm in Depth x 1.5 cm in Height. The base is in Good Condition with no breaks. Fractures or chips. Each of the bases have two birds sitting parallel to each other on the top of a branch and looking up in the air and these measure 10cm in height and the length is just under 11cm. In some places the spelter has worn away showing the beautiful bronze colour underneath and these are shown in the images, however there are no breaks, fractures or bending of these. However these are still a beautiful pair of bookends and can only enhance any room. Due to their weight. The postage ... moreis slightly higher.
