Antique Art Deco Spelter Bookends with Faux Ivory Details
This is a couple. Each sitting on an identical bookend made of black marble and gray& maroon marble. They were made in the 1920s or 1930s. Faux ivory faces and limbs& chest on the woman. They each are in great condition overall but have a damaged area. The woman’s arm is broken though still connected. It looks like she has not lost arm, but has lost elbow. The man’s hand that is behind the neck of his musical instrument is missing. See pictures. There is a flaw on the corner of the black marble on the one with the woman(see pic of me pointing to it) Each is about 6” inches by 5.5” inches and 4” inches front to back. This is a original pair of nude art deco ladies. They are bookends made of spelter metal with a bronze color overlay. They are Nuart Frankart styled. They measure 4 1/2 inches in height and are 3 3/8 inches deep and 3 1/2 inches at the widest point. There are some condition issues. There is rubbing to some of the color but one has significant damage with a cracked base and missing some metal under the legs as shown in photo. Antique Scottie Bookends Onyx Base Art Deco Bronze over Spelter Scottish Terrier
This is a fabulous pair of 1930's Art Deco Scottish Terrier bookends from Crescent Manufacturing. They are extremely heavy due to the Brazilian onyx bases coupled with the bronze plated spelter Scotties. The bases are 5.25" x 2.25" and the overall height to the top of each dog's ears is about 3.75" tall. These scotties are highly stylized in the Art Deco manner with clean lines which emphasize the strong lines of the Scottie's body. I love the way the sculptor created the look of the coat with a few well placed lines. The whole concept just works so well and is so indicative of the period. The bases are made from Brazilian onyx. A natural stone that was extremely popular to use for end tables, book ends, etc. from about the turn of the century through the early 1950's. Unfortunately, it has a lot of veining ... morewhich is prone to chipping. So, one of the bases is in very good condition with some nicks around the corners and edges, due to use over the years. The other has a small chunk missing where there is a larger vein and the crack in the onyx goes under the terrier's belly to the other side. However, The dog is firmly bolted to both sides of the onyx piece and there is no movement or wiggling when you pick it up so it is still a solid bookend. I'm probably making this sound a lot worse than it is but I wanted to point out this flaw. This is still a remarkable pair of bronze plated bookends for the dog fancier. For the antique bookend collector, for the bibliophile, for the Marguerite Kirmse collector, etc. and will look great on the bookshelf in almost any room in the house or office. A Pair of 1920's Art Deco Flapper Ladies Bookends in Flapper Dresses with headbands and bare feet. They are quite heavy being made of metal. Possibly spelter we believe, a white metal, weighing almost 4 pounds each. Each one is Signed on the back with the number 500 and measure about 7" tall by 5" wide by 4" deep. They look to have their Original gold paint. With some loss from scuffs/scrapes and wear from age which we believe adds to their Vintage charm! There looks to be no breaks in the metal work, a few nicks in the edges here and there and their noses are a wee bit flattened, probably where they have been knocked over on them we assume. BEAUTIFUL PAIR OF FRENCH ART DECO BOOKENDS 1920'S TO 1930'S MARBLE BASE WITH TWO SPELTER BIRDS SITTING ON A BRANCH GOOD CONDITION These two bookends were produced in the 1920's and 1930's in France and consist of a marble base that measures 13cm in Length x 8 cm in Depth x 1.5 cm in Height. The base is in Good Condition with no breaks. Fractures or chips. Each of the bases have two birds sitting parallel to each other on the top of a branch and looking up in the air and these measure 10cm in height and the length is just under 11cm. In some places the spelter has worn away showing the beautiful bronze colour underneath and these are shown in the images, however there are no breaks, fractures or bending of these. However these are still a beautiful pair of bookends and can only enhance any room. Due to their weight. The postage ... moreis slightly higher. They have marble bases with spelter figures of antelopes or deer. The marble bases measure approximately 14cm x 8cm x 2cm or 5.5" x 3.25" x 0.75" The overall height is approximately 17cm or 6.75" Condition The marble bases are in very good condition free from cracks and chips. The paper on the underside of the base has some wear/rubbing. The spelter figures have surface marks which are signs of ageing. P+P I take great care with my packaging using bubble wrap.
