It is a n OLD C1930's(I think it is Pre-War as it is just Germany)ART DECO DESK or MANTEL CLOCK with a BAUHAUS influence. During my research I found 3 different coloured finishes. This one(BLACK) in my opinion look the best. The condition of the examples I saw was very mixed but none were in as good condition visually as this one. The paint or lacquer is very fragile& prone to chipping etc. I would describe this one as being in GOOD condition. The photos are greatly enlarged& best viewed without enlarging. The paint is in very good condition& was difficult to photograph as it is so shiney. I would give it at least 7.5/10. I have had it running for 4 days but it stopped ... moreover the weekend when I was away. The plastic glass is clear& scratch free& the numbers are all quite clean. For some reason it does not change the hour immediately but takes a few minutes to do so(if you tap it the number does fall) I am not sure if this is normal but it has been very hot here in my study. The movement is marked Kohler as per the photos& it has a very pleasing tick& click when the numbers change. It is in better condition than appears in the photos. I am not an expert on this type of thing so your comments would be welcomed& added to the listing. It weighs approx 601g unpacked. Approx 7 7/8ths" wide. Rare and substantial(weighs almost 6 pounds(12 kg) electric clock. I believe this is a German design from the 1930's. Possibly a custom clock made by one of the great Bauhaus designers like Lazlo Moholo-Nagy. Marianne Brandt, Walter Gropius, Christian Dell, Joseph Albers, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Marcel Breuer, or someone else. Measures about 25 cm wide by 22 cm high(about 10 inches wide by 9 inches high) Including the base. Fitted with a european plug. So I have no way to test it. Very substantial and elegant design in unknown materials(bottom area where the screw is in the last photo appears to be either bakelite or vitrolite, hands, time markers. This auction is for a rare art deco table cigarette box from the design studio of John Nicholas Otar in Santa Cruz, California. it probably dates from the late 1920s to early 1930s era. Constructed from copper and brass plates turned into a spiral form. John Nicholas Otar was a Russian immigrant who settled in Santa Cruz California where he worked until his death in 1939 He worked mainly in metal ware and was a leading figure in the Bauhaus design movement His works are displayed in the Los Angeles Count Museum of Art. EXTREMELY RARE c 1930 MARTHA KATZER Karlsruher Majolika ART DECO Bauhaus SPRITZDEKOR plate! Extremely rare Art Deco Spritzdekor side/cake plate designed by Martha Katzer and produced by Karlsruher Majolika circa 1930. I think I have only seen 1 other plate with this design sold on eBay over the last 8 or more years(excluding another of mine) and I regularly search for Karlsruher. Katzer, etc. and this other plate sold about a year or so ago for about $200. Katzer was a fantastic designer. And contemporary with Eva Zeisel(her work for Schramberg and Hirschau) Clarice Cliff, Susie Cooper, Nora Gulbrandsen, Hedwig Bollhagen, Marianne Brandt and Margarete Heymann Loebenstein Marks(to name just a few from the exhibition I want to see, and with some sassy title like Chick Designs. LOL) The plate is a true black base with orange geometric circles(closest ... moreto the way the design appears in photo#4- many of the other photos are a bit lighter than in reality) Shown with a red and yellow Bakelite bird napkin holder to compare(and give the full-on red/yellow/orange fast food vibe) The design is also very similar to one by El Lissitzky made around the same time. A light partial backstamp of the Karlsruher Majolika logo. For comparison. The last 2 photos are of another plate from the set(not for sale) showing the original paper label, model#3408, and a clearer Karlsruher logo. Approx. 7.25 inches in diameter(18.4 cm) Weighs approx. 225 grams(excluding packing) Re condition. There is a hairline along the raised lip of the plate. It is visible on the inside lip(shown in photos#3, 4 and 5) but not on the outside(photo#6) It has been packed up in boxes/Rubbermaids and handled by movers a handful of times- in other words, roughly* and moved like 3,000 miles over the years- and the condition hasn't changed in the last 8 to 10 years, which is at least how long it has looked like this- and while this gives the appearance of being stable, I wouldn't guarantee it's stable; I wouldn't knock it agai
