This is a porcelain wall mask of a lady with great brown hair and a lovely blue/green scarf wrapped around her head. It has been signed and numbered on the back 6007-2. The original label is still intact on the back, although it does have a few losses, and it reads La Casa Quintana. This hand painted piece is in great shape with no evidence of major chips, dings, scratches, or restorations. There is one small chip on the back side, but it does not take away from it at all. There is some overall crazing that just gives this a great look. She measures approx. 9 1/4" x 12 3/4" Good Luck! There is a glue drip below left hand which goes down dress piece about 2" There is some filler or other residue at back side of left shoulder. Rare Austrian Art Deco Goldscheider 'Butterfly Dancer' by Dakon c.1939 - Lorenzl
A Rare Austrian. Goldscheider' Porcelain'Red Butterfly Dancer' by Stefan Dakon, circa 1939-41. Stefan Dakon. Worked along side Josef Lorenzl, who was one of the most famous and prolific sculptors of the Art deco period. They produced figurative pieces in both bronze, spelter and porcelain, in the famous Austrian Goldscheider factory. His pieces depicted the style and elegance of the period, where his female dancers, with their slim elongated almost boy-like features, found fame throughout Europe and the rest of the world. His sense of oppulence and sexual liberation, reflected the revolution in society of the roaring nineteen twenties and thirties! The Goldscheider Foundry set the standards and style for Art Deco ceramics which found fame all over the world- creating some of the most beautiful and striking models. Which continue ... moreto be very much in demand to the present day. They had the most famous of Art Deco sculptors working and designing for them, most notably'Dakon' Lorenzl' one of which this paticular piece is by. At the start of World War II, Austria was invaded by the Germans, who quickly took over the running of the Goldscheider factory, and some pieces such as this one, had the Goldscheider stamp removed and temporarily replaced by'Wiener Manufaktur J.Schuster' due to the Jewish connections. This paticular figure is pure Art Deco in it's sculpting. With her dramatic pose, creating the double-winged butterfly shape in the movement of her dress, and it's vibrant rich-burgandy floral decoration. She is featured in the Goldscheider catalogue by Ora Pinhas on page 156, with a green dress and black base. Her dress adds more of a rique-quality to her sculpting, accentuating her elongated legs in mid-dance, revealing a very short matching red under-skirt. A Rare Austrian Art Deco. Goldscheider' Ceramic'Blue Girl with Yellow Flower' Bust, in the Wandemask style, circa 1938. The Goldscheider Foundry set the standards and style for Art Deco ceramics which found fame all over the world- creating some of the most beautiful and striking models. Which continue to be very much in demand to the present day. They had the most famous of Art Deco sculptors working and designing for them, most notably'Dakon' Lorenzl' Apart from the many glamourous and elegant dancers and lady figures which they produced, Goldscheider quite literally broke the mould by creating these quite radical, stylised busts and wall masks, that showed the influence of modern art and sculpture of the period. Their look was quite a departure for Goldscheider, and found popularity in the new minimalist moderne ... moreurban settings, where they were quite valued for their unique hand crafted quality and delicate nature, blurring the lines between the classic figurines and almost becoming works of art in their own right. This paticular bust is pure Art Deco in it's sculpting. With her almost 1930's mannequin-like pose and features, creating quite a sculptural look to the piece. A similar bust is featured in the Goldscheider catalogue by Ora Pinhas on page 164, with black hair, painted eyes and an orange flower, see pic. At one time it was said that you paid per curl on these busts and wall-masks, as they were so hard to fire without breaking or collapsing in the process, if this was the case then this bust has a full head of curls, so must of been quite a triumph for the potter. This full head of curled hair has no visible damage or loss, with just two small gaps that are coloured and glazed over, so were part of the original sculpting& firing, the rich turquoise glaze of her hair is echoed in her top that has a craqluere effect to the drip-glaze and has run under the base during the firing. A Rare Austrian Art Deco. Goldscheider Wien' Nude with Fawn' Terracotta Sculpture, signed by Josef Lorenzl, circa 1929. The Goldscheider Foundry set the standards and style for Art Deco ceramics which found fame all over the world- creating some of the most beautiful and striking models. With the nude carefully tending to a young fawn, creating quite a classical sculptural look to the piece, remarkable in it's tenderness. A similar glazed& painted ceramic group is featured in the Goldscheider catalogue by Ora Pinhas on page 123, see pic. This piece I was told on purchase from a German dealer, might actually be an artists proof, as very few remain in the natural terracotta finish, where you can see the sculptors hands and modelling in the matt finish, adding a more life-like feel to the piece and in my opinion creates a sence of tenderness which is lost in the painted version. There is writing beneath the base, which I was told the previous owner had written to record when the family had purchased it in Belgium in 1936, beside this are remnants of an old Goldscheider label. This base also has the original Goldscheider inscribed model numbers identifying the piece, the same numbers as the one in the Ora Pinhas catalogue. This rare original Lorenzl sculpture is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or restoration, remarkable for it's age and journey, and certainly a rarity for collectors! The whole figure stands

36650. Goldscheider is what I can make of the left over part of the sticker. It is numbered on the bottom but it has no imprint from Goldscheider. Goldscheider is the famous Vienna facory and the figurines produced there are gorgeous. I can clearly see the Goldscheider mark on the sticker. It is a terra cotta nude girl statue with 2 pony tales. And there is from one a part missing. I was tempted to shorten the other one to the same length! However she is nice like this too, as you see the prices of Goldscheider figurines it is certainly worth restoring her to her old beauty. Nothing wrong other than that. She needs a cleaning found her in an attic covered in dust. I estimate 1930s old. She stands approx. 14” or 36 cm tall and 7.5” or 19 cm wide and 5.5” or 15 cm deep. A Vintage Art Deco Lady's Face/Bird Wall Mask-Pottery/Ceramic-Goldscheider type.
This Vintage Art Deco Woman's Face Mask Plaque dates I believe to around the 1930s or thereabouts. I am unsure as to the Maker. But please refer to photograph 8 which should help in identifying who made this. The Mask Plaque stands approximately 7.75 inches high by around 3.75 inches wide maximum. It weighs approximately 232 grams. There is a Bird to the side of the Woman's face and a bow around her neck. The Plaque is highly glazed and appears to be made of either Pottery or Ceramic. Unfortunately. There is a repair to the forehead area which goes right across from one side to the other(please see last photo) However. This could be disguised even further with some skill. The Mask is stylish and beautiful. And will make a great addition to any Art Deco collection.
