BUY IT NOW - A beautiful Necklace from the Colima area of western Mexico. It's made a few types of shell, both large and small, and measures 24 inches ... morelong. Displays great and suituable for wearing. Modernly restrung with pieces from the late Dr. David Harner collection, Arkansas. The Colima culture flourished in ancient west Mexico along with the Nayarit and Jalisco cultures (collectively known as the Shaft Tomb cultures), in the 200BC-250AD range. All three produced incredible art, especially in the form of ceramic figures, while the Colima also specialized in crafting obsidian blades and ornamental pieces.

GJPaw Auctions is pleased to offer a fine antique Pre-Columbian ceramic blackware stirrup spout Vessel with Figure. From the Chimú culture. Peru. ... moreThe Chimú culture arose around 900 A.D. on the northern coast of Peru in a large adobe city in the Moche Valley. And was conquered by the Incas in 1470 AD. They are best known for their distinctive monochromatic pottery and fine metal work. The main types of Chimú ceramics are small sculptures, manufactured molded and shaped pottery for daily use and those made for ceremonial use for offerings at burials. The pottery is often in the shape of a creature. Or has a human figure sitting or standing on a cuboid bottle. The shiny black finish of most Chimú pottery was achieved by firing the pottery at high temperatures in a closed kiln, which prevented oxygen from reacting with the clay. This beautiful molded stirrup vessel measures 5 inches in width by 4 inches in depth by 7 inches in height(12.7 cm by 10.1 by 17.7 cm) The figure shows wear consistent with use and a Pre-Columbian dating. But generally is in very good condition. It is guaranteed authentic and would make a superb addition to any collection of Pre-Columbian ceramics. GJPaw Auctions has been in the Art business for over 25 years and is now expanding its operation to eBay. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the Globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail. Quality, and significance. We ship worldwide. Antique Mexican Carved Wood Retablo / Latin American-Spanish Colonial/ Gold Leaf
Antique Mexican Carved and Painted Wood Retablo ~ 19th or Early 20th Century ~ Possibly Saint Francis ~ please scroll down for more photos and information ~ SIZE: Height-15.75" 40 cm) Width- 11.5" 29.2 cm) Depth- 1.8" 4.6 cm) DESCRIPTION: Fine old Mexican or Latin American carved. Gessoed, painted and gilded wood retablo in the form of a three dimensional sculptural carved plaque. This piece dates from the 19th or very early 20th century. Is in the 17th- 18th century Spanish Colonial style, and may be a depiction of Saint Francis. The Saint is holding a book and looking upward and a silver halo surrounds his head. The retablo is carved from a single piece of wood(several pieces joined together and then carved from the one block) and has great detail and beauty. The flat background is a fantastic sea and mountain landscape painting ... moremade by inscribing into the paint allowing the silver leaf behind to show through. The Saint is fully carved and detailed with gesso over the wood. Which has then been painted and covered with gold leaf and silver leaf, in the classical Spanish style. The life-like details are amazing and the decoration is ornate. This piece is painted blue on the reverse and outer edges of the raised integrated frame. On the outer side of left edge is a stamped mark in Spanish. Which is a bit hard to read, but looks to be the mark of a guild or Art- artisan's school. Some of the finest retablos and church altars come from these type of artisan's institutes in Latin and SouthAmerican and this is certainly a very fine example of craftsmanship and religious art. AGE: Late 19th or very early 20th century. CONDITION: Good condition. As shown in the photos and with the following noted: Old worn darkened patina. Wear to the back and edges of the wood and painted surfaces.Small chips and crazing to the painted gesso surfaces. No major breaks, cracks, or damage. No restorations. ~ please click on image for high definition photos ~ This piece will be a museum quality addition to any collec

Description An antique South American Mate Cup and bombilla made from a silver metal(un-marked. Possibly low grade silver) The cup bowl is supported on three legs of serpentine shape with twisted metal tops, the body with incised foliate detail. The bombilla is of a stylised bamboo shape. The drink Mate is also known ... moreas chimarrao or cimarron. Which is a traditional South American infused drink, particularly in Uruguay, Agentina, Paraguay, south states of Brazil, south of Chile. It is prepared by steeping died leaves of yerba mate in hot water. The bombilla most likely had a leather tip to suck up the mate and act as a filter, unless in this example the bombilla was inverted so that the knop became the filter. This mate cup and bombilla are most likely Argentinian from around 1900. One of two examples I am selling so do check out my shop. If you require further images to examine at high resolution please message me with your email address. The condition is good with overall rubbing/handling to cup with one leg slightly bent. The bombilla knop is un-even and the leather filter probably missing. The cup is 14cm high(approx 5½" Weight 203 grams. The bombilla is 19cm long(approx 7½" Weight 53 grams. Old Knitted Figural Textile over Wood Central South American Shaman's Stick Wand
This amazing Shamans Wand measures about 15" long. I do think it is from Central or South America. But truthfully we are unable to identify exactly where this item originates from. The item consists of a stick wrapped in yarn or thick thread. At the top of which is a figure made from the thread and mounted on the stick. The figure has dangles of thread hanging off of it with feathers or worn tiny pieces of feather hanging mounted from it. The piece has real age and is deteriorated some with the feathers barely clinging on. All is pictured. That being said it is a very cool and unusual object of Tribal Art.

Superb Pair of Hardwood Carved Kneck Purses.Japenese/South American
PLEASE READ BELOW THE LISTING Here for sale is.what i think is a pair of hardwood purses and im told are most probably Japenese but to me because of the intrcate interlocking zig zag lids they appear to be south American(Looking) but you will have to decide. They are made of a collection of very hard wood with fantastic quality carvings of the interlocking lids which are so accurate and lock together very snugly and not loose. They once had strings attactched wich went to the base peice through the top lid. Then longer to go and hang around your kneck then down again to the otherside of the purseThe larger one is Approx 15cm x 11cm tall and the smaller just slightly under this size and each one has a oblong cut out interior to place items, paperwork, cards and they Smell absolutely wonderfull, crazy but true and they have a fab undamaged patina ... moreto them.As to there age i have no Idea, but they have been in my parents loft and then mine for 13 Years and they are real quality carved items.I have no knowledge of these growing up so please look at my other sweet items i have listed to combine postage many thanks Si I am not a expert in these items but i will list item with 100% honesty and with the good photos its your choice to bidd and please ask any questions what so ever I do combine postage and try to put as much in one package as possible and this works great in the UK.Worldwide is more difficult as they charge by the weight but i will try my upmost to get the postage down for you as i am not a seller who makes lots of money on postage, normally i fall short and i will pay the balance.many thanks Simon Powered by

As you visit the San Blas Islands of the Kuna people, who still keep their old lifestyle and traditions. The Archipelago is composed of over three hundred islands. Some inhabited, some not, some named others remaining nameless to this day, all of them surrounded with crystal clear waters. It is Paradise found. The Kuna people wear dresses adorned with hand made molas. As well as colored bead ornaments on their wrists and ankles. ... moreChains, pectorals, a red headress, and gold noserings complete their every-day attire. Your adventure at San Blas could be a stay at an uninhabited island. A fishing tour, dancing and traditional rites, diving and spear-gun fishing, the enjoyment of the crystalline waters or merely the peace of a hammock swung by the wind. But to complete your visit you will undoubtably purchase a souvenir mola to remember your adventure. Molas are undoubtedly the most famous art produced in Panama. The Kuna women have been sewing these works of art for years. They incorporate them into their clothing. Usually with one mola serving as the front of the blouse, and another for the back. The mola is often described as a reverse appliqué. For each color of cloth that you see there is a piece of cloth of that color sewn into the mola. Each mola is hand-stitched with thousand of stitches. The theme of the mola is determined by the imagination of the artist. Once assembled. They are placed on both the lower front and lower back of a blouse. These colorful blouses are only part of the daily attire worn by the Kuna women of Central America. The mola blouses, and mola panels, in and of themselves, hav

NO RESERVE! The History of Stirrups: In most civilizations the horse was used more in chariots than for riding until about 800 BC. Before stirrups most equestrian cultures used no support for the feet at all. There are records of a loose surcingle being employed behind the girth. Into which the feet could be tucked. Toe stirrups(loops of rope which held the big toe) were first recorded in Northern India in the 2nd century BC, their use was somewhat ... morelimited by climate and footwear. The first stirrups designed to take the entire foot were probably single mounting stirrups recorded in China in the 4th Century AD. The mounting stirrup was easier than using a stool to mount and safer than vaulting on when fully armed(Cambyses, king of Persia stabbed himself while mounting when fully armed in 522 BC- A.D.H.Bivar, The Stirrup and Its Origins. Oriental Arts, n.s. 1(1955) 61-68. Paired stirrups were first recorded in the 4th Century AD on a Chinese pottery horse and a stirrup has been found in a 4th Century Chinese grave. Their use spread through Central Asia and into Europe by the 8th century AD. The stirrup revolutionized riding and warfare. It allowed cavalry to ride further and faster, heavy cavalry and the use of lances developed, as did light cavalry and mounted archers. It was in Byzantine times when some elements like the saddle, stirrups, spurs, bits and bridles became popular and their use spread throughout Europe. Precolumbian Mayan Artifact (ancient Alien) Museum Quality
ANCIENT ALIEN pre-Columbian figurine. Very old A must have piece. Museum quality. Feel free to ask any questions Free shipping if you use buy it now option. The Maya occupied a vast area covering southeast Mexico and the Central American countries of Guatemala. Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. Mayan culture began to develop in the Pre-Classic period, around 1000 B.C. and was at its heyday between 300 and 900 A.D. The Maya are well known for their writing, of which a great part can now be read, as well as for their advanced mathematics, astronomy and calendrical calculations. Coming upon impressive abandoned cities covered by vegetation in the middle of the jungle caused early archaeologists and explorers to wonder- who built these spectacular cities only to abandon them? Some surmised that the Romans or the Phoenecians were responsible for ... morethese magnificent constructions- from their racist perspective it was difficult to believe that the native people of Mexico and Central America could be responsible for such amazing engineering. Architecture and artistry. Posted with Posted with
