Superb Pair Antique 18th Century Spanish Colonial Mexican Santos Figures
SUPERB PAIR 18TH CENTURY MEXICAN SANTOS EVANGELIST FIGURES This pair of 18th Century Evangelist santos figures are in rare original condition. As they have been together for over two centuries. I do not wish to separate them now and am selling them together, as a pair, for one price. They were probably carved in one of the great colonial era eclesiastical centers of Mexico, either Mexico City or Puebla, in the late 18th century. They are finely and delicately carved by a master craftsman, and covered with the original gesso and painted in the"Estofado" technique. They are fairly large, 13 inches tall. There is some minor flaking of the gesso, which is to be expected, but overall they are in excellent condition. I purchased the pair ten years ago from Noyola Anticuarios, a highly regarded antiques dealer in Monterrey, Mexico. Pictured ... moreare the appraisals which accompanied the sale. Each is appraised for 10,000- 15,000 Mexican pesos, which equates to $909- $1,363 each by the 2004 exchange rate. For the pair, this equates to an appraisal of $1,818- $2,726. Authenticity fully guaranteed. RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk.rp*a4%601gc%3E-14880412aef-0x10a-
