Cannons, and other metal including armor from conquering other warriors. The stirrups were made and styled to provide armour protection for the conquistador horseman's feet against weapons including swords and clubs. Due to the heavy construction they also providing a firm and solid base platform for the horseman to stand up in while using his own sword or weapons. The Spanish Conquistadors were some of the first to use this type of stirrup and brought them as part of their armor to battles. These stirrups are heavy solid ... morehandforged brass that are about 10 1/4" long. 4 1/4" wide at back insert and 4 3/4" tall to the heavy brass attachment bar on top. A nice pair of Conquistador Solid Brass“BATTLE” Shoe Stirrups Circa probably 1700’s. The Conquistadors wore These to protect their feet in battle and also they provided a solid‘platform’ to allow them to stand in the stirrups and wield their weapons. As is usual with these there are drainage holes to the bottom…some wear consistent with use. But otherwise the condition is very good. Weighs about 4 1/2 pounds on their own. See photos actual item in photos. Please ask questions before buying.
