This is only one of a few pre Columbian specimens. Received by the estate of an American Physician who travelled extensively through Middle and South America during the 50, 60 and 70's, right up to his death in the mid 70' His widow kept all these beautiful idols, nicely packaged and protected in a box inside a closet until she decided that it was time to de- clutter. This is a WONDERFUL old antique carved stone mask that I believe is Mayan. I purchased this mask years ago at a estate auction in Avon Indiana. It measures approx. 7 1/2" tall by 7 1/4" wide& is has been broken at some point& glued back together. The holes all appear to have been flint drilled& there is signs of crustacean deposits. Description This antique circa 16-17th century(or earlier) Mexico Pre-Columbian clay pottery torso figurine. Is hand formed in pale red earthenware(terracotta) clay pottery. It is modled wearing a skirt and upper body with pronounced chest plate form, which has been damaged, the arms and head have been broken off and the legs are missing leaving the hollows in the bottom where they were fitted originally. It has hand incised mesh pattern and pressed circle dot border detail to the skirt and it has a collection pencil mark to the base'MEXICO' CONDITION It has missing head. Both arms and both legs, damage to the chest, it also has a chip and some nibbles to one side of the skirt at the bottom. Antique Fabric Remnant Ancient Peru Pre-Columbian Swatch Inca Ruins Note Frame
Hi. You are bidding on an interesting little swatch of material that is about seven inches by three inches in a frame that is six inches by nine inches. It is an ancient piece of fabric from early Peru. Here is what I can read on the back. First there is a handwritten note that says"Sent by Mabel Zapenas to me Sept. 1963 from Lima. Peru. Then there is a taped typed note on the back from apparently Mabel Zapenas. You can see the old typewriter font. It says"This swatch of material will interest you. It is a piece of cloth from one of the ruins in Peru, perhaps Inca, and is anywhere from 1000 to 2000 years old. Aren't the colors excellent for the age? And the design is interesting, too. There is a lady who does modern designs in nationally woven material based on these old patterns and she does a nice and expensive job.
