The oldest examples possibly pre-dating pottery finds. Although utilitarian in origin, they are one of the key distinguishing features of the various indigenous cultures that still exist today. A lliclla(or awayo) is a utilitarian shoulder cloth. They have been used for carrying a baby or personal goods. Some awayus and llicllas are made especially as ceremonial ground or altar cloths. They were also used as wall hangings displayed with other objects representing"leader" status. Weaving of awayo is done in two separate parts which are then sewn together; this central seam shows decorative details and colors that highlight the beauty of the tapestry. Textiles are immensely valuable as investments. And although items may have been designed originally to fulfill a strictly practical purpose. They have increasing significance as works of art and as pieces of cultural history. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Photos are part of description. ANTIQUE SOUTH AMERICAN ANDES INDIAN SILVER CEREMONIAL TUPO PIN TOPO BROOCH
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Up for auction is a beautiful ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE SOUTH AMERICAN TUPO OR SHAWL PIN. Also referred to as a TOPO pin, or brooch. The indigenous women and girls of the Andes in Ecuador. Bolivia and Peru historically fastened their shawls with beautiful clasps called tupos. The tupo design usually identifies the wearer's area of residence and is an important part of cultural identification for Andean women and girls. This lovely tupo is formed from silver and inset with a green glass jewel which I believe is called a cabochon. The detail is lovely with a feathery design. Decorative tupos are rarely seen anymore as most shawls are fastened with a large safety pin. This decorative piece is a lovely look back at times past. The tupo measures 10 1/2" in height and is ... more3" across at the widest point. The areas of concern with the light tarnish. The discoloration on the back, and the slight bend in the upper left edging show clearly in the photos, so please look closely at the photos as they are the best way to make your own assessment of condition. Feel free to ask any questions prior to placing a bid. Buyer to pay $4.00 towards shipping via USPS First Class Mail Insured. I will ship within one or two business days of receiving a cleared payment. This item comes from a smoke and pet free home. Thanks for taking the time to look. AKATAKSA RETURN POLICY eBay no longer allows us to automatically accept returns in exchange for merchandise. However. This policy will create a new wave of crooks that can easily create vast inventories with no investment risks save for the possible minimal cost of return shipping. In the meantime, we lose our packing and shipping expenses, we lose PayPal fees, we lose relisting fees, we lose potential clients, we lose weeks of exposure and we lose potential legitimate sales. Ours is a small operation with over 17 years serving the ... moreindigenous peoples of South America by documenting their cultures and sharing that information with the world. We believe that we offer the best and most accurate eBay descriptions in our field. At the moment. EBay sales are our only source of income. There are five of us working full-time in our Bolivian office plus five indigenous field investigators. Antique South American Andes Indian SILVER Ceremonial TUPO PIN TOPO Jewel Brooch
Up for auction is a beautiful hand hammered ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE SOUTH AMERICAN JEWELLED TUPO OR SHAWL PIN. Also referred to as a TOPO pin, or brooch. This pin has a unique design and is quite intricate. The three stones are green, orange, and blue. There are holes for the traditional add on pieces, but I do not have them. The indigenous women and girls of the Andes in Ecuador. Bolivia and Peru historically fastened their shawls with beautiful clasps called tupos. The tupo design usually identifies the wearer's area of residence and is an important part of cultural identification for Andean women and girls. This lovely tupo is formed from silver and the hand hammered piece features the traditional bird. What appears to be a horse and rider, followed by a llama and a baby llama. The detail is quite intricate, and I am not sure of the symbolism ... moreof some of the figures. These decorative tupos are rarely seen anymore as most shawls are fastened with a large safety pin. This piece is a lovely look back at times past. The tupo measures 9 3/4" long and is approximately 2" wide. The condition of this piece is quite good. Although the stones have scratching from wear. This could be beautifully polished if so desired, as the tarnish is quite light. There is a spot of tarnish or discoloration on the back, and the long pin is not perfectly straight, partially because it is hand made. The areas of concern with the light tarnish and the discoloration on the back show clearly in the photos. So please look closely as they are the best way to make your own assessment of condition. Antique Super Fine Andean Textile from Puno Peru - Ayamara Indian Ceremonial
Antique Super Fine Andean Textile from Puno Peru- Ayamara Indian Ceremonial Manta. Completely hand made on backstrap loom, home raised, shorn, cleaned, dyed spun, represents nearly a year of work, so fine it is hard to believe it is wool, especially home spun on spindle whorls. Technically this is a Bolivian textile as the Ayamara Indians mostly live in Bolivia, Puno is on lake Titicaca in Peru near Bolivia. As fine or finer than the finest Germantown Navajo textile. I bought this wonderful textile in Cusco back in the late 1970's, and it was very old then. Likely from the 1890's-1910, Manta is 22 x 36 inches. Made With Pre-Columbian techniques Peru South America. S&H&INS is $15.00 in the USA only.
Vintage Bolivia Ecuador Amazon Quechua indian tribal Ceremonial necklace toucan
Up for your considerate is a very rare one of a kind hand made Ceremonial Tribal Necklace that came from either Ecuador or Bolivia dating back to the 1920's. It is reputed to be from Amazon Quechua Indians. But that is pure speculation, what we do know is that it was purchased from natives in either Bolivia or Ecuador in the 1920's. I acquired this many years ago at a family estate sale. As I recall they told me that either their father or grandfather(an ancestor) worked as in engineer in both Bolivia and Ecuador during that time(1920s) and brought back many native indian objects. This is one of two ceremonial necklaces that were in his collection and offered for sale. I acquired both necklaces. I hold these items in great esteem. And treasure them very much but I have decided to put this one up for sale. I must admit in all of my ... moreyears of collecting I have never come across anything similar to this and doubt that you will ever see another similar extraordinary piece for sale. IT IS TRULY UNIQUE AND ONE OF A KIND LIKELY NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN The ceremonial neckless is composed of Job's Tears seeds and another unknown seed. Sulphur Breasted Toucan breast feathers and Toucan Beaks or some similar Large Yellow Breasted Toucan, plus Emerald Toucanet Breast feathers and beaks. There are a total of 7(seven) Toucan Beaks and 10(ten) Toucan Breast feather Patches You can tell from the photos that this necklace was labor intensive to make and no doubt took a considerable amount of time. If not only to acquire the Toucan parts needed to assemble such a piece. It is absolutely stunning to look at and realize that indigenous amazon indians hunted Toucans and kept their beautiful plumage to fashion such a ceremonial necklace. AMAZING. I paid a lot for this necklace many many years ago so its not being sold lightly nor cheaply. I value it considerably and I am only selling it because I need funds to purchase something else I want. If you have any questions or want to inquire further about this piece please contact
