The history on these type stirrups is amazing. This style of stirrup evolved in Europe during the 1700-1800's. They were handforged from church bells. Cannons, and other metal including armor from conquering other warriors. The stirrups were made and styled to provide armour protection for the conquistador horseman's feet against weapons including swords and clubs. Due to the heavy construction they also providing a firm and solid base platform for the horseman to stand up in while using his own sword or weapons. The Spanish Conquistadors were some of the first to use this type of stirrup and brought them as part of their armor to battles. These stirrups are heavy solid ... morehandforged brass that are about 10 1/4" long. 4 1/4" wide at back insert and 4 3/4" tall to the heavy brass attachment bar on top.
