Exquisite retablo will make a valuable and ... morerare addition to any art/religious collection. Its delightful patterns have touches of bronze leaf and has a unique detail of a small drawer at the bottom. Where the faithful devotees placed their milagros ex votos. In moments of extreme tension, terror, or pain, faced with extreme disaster, man cries out to God and His saints. Save me! Sometimes he even makes a pact, or promise. When he is saved, he cries for joy. Someone has understood; someone has cared. A miracle has occurred. He prepares to offer thanks, but he also wishes to leave a trace of his story. Some material expression of his devotion tells his gratitude to all who see it. Hence the idea of the ex voto, a symbol of his gratitude. The history of the Peruvian painting has its origins at the colonial era. The Spanish painters who arrived at the Viceroyalty of Peru taught their techniques to the local artists. And they began to shape in its linen cloths its own representations, proposing a new iconographic interpretation of the Peruvian reality. Antique Mexican folk art retablo painting on glass in tin frame: St Patrick icon
Normal.dotm 0 0 1 44 254 100383 2 1 311 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This is an authentic 19th Century(1860-80s) Mexican retablo in a beautiful tooled tin frame. A retablo is a traditional Latin American folk art devotional painting. And then often focus on Catholic iconography. This oil painting on tin features a male saint wearing a green cloak and hat, holding a black staff in one hand and a basket of flowers in the other. His staff has either a bell or a pouch affixed to it. The man has quite a content look on his face. He is surrounded by curtains and flowers, and by four panels of reverse-painted glass with vivid and brightly colored flowers against a shining gold background. I believe that this represents Saint Patrick, but this is open to interpretation. This really is a stunning piece of historically important art. ... moreThis retablo measures 15.5 inches tall by 11.5 inches across at the wides part. Where there are wings near the top of the frame. It measures 3/4 of an inch deep. The central painting is on a tin background, and the rectangular panels that surround it on four sides depict vivid, colorful flowers and gold which are reverse-painted on glass. The left panel of glass is cracked and a piece of it is missing. The top panel has a crack in the center but no glass is missing and this hairline fracture will not cause further damage. Aside from this, the retablo is in great condition for a piece of folk art that has spent many years on display. It shows appropriate wear throughout, but is a gorgeous artifact that will contribute to the finest collection or home. Please contact me if you have any questions.

South American Spear
This spear is about 6 ft. long and has a counter balance on the other end. Good craftsmanship and a great addition to any collection. I had a local expert look at it and he said it was from a South American tribe. But I did not write down the exact tribe. He said many of these were cut down to fit in the GI's bag when they came home from the service and he said it was good to see one complete. I can add pictures upon request if someone is interested. Great detail. I hate to part with it, but it does not go with anything else in the house and someone should enjoy it instead of it being in a closet. Vintage NUCHU KUNA Doll Double/Twin Head/Face MOLA HandMade Kuna Yala Is. Panama
FREE SHIPPING to US. Very interesting primitive hand-carved doll from the Kuna Yala Islands off the coast of Panama. This type of doll is known as a"nuchu" Very important in the Kuna culture, and used to ward off and protect against evil spirits. Please send me a message if you are interested in an academic explanation of the importance and use of these nuchus. Per ebay policy. I can't provide a non-clickable link in the listing. I found a book online whose text is accessible. Hand carved from a lightweight wood. Probably from a balsa tree. Doll is dressed in a"mola"traditional applique handwork blouse. And a sort of a skirt which looks like batik but unclear if it actually is. Headscarf is faded pink with yellow design. Note the tiny stitches on the mola's design. Doll is unusual in its double or twin-headed design. ... morePerhaps the nuchu is being especially vigilant. Please see all photos. Faces have inked-in eyes. Eyebrows and nose stripes. Cheeks are reddened. Height 8 inches. Age unclear. Guessing 30 years? Came from the estate of a prominent and well-traveled family. U.S. bidders only. Please. Shipping includes tracking.
