Rare, Exceptional Costa Rican 'stirrup handle' (Pre-Columbian?) pottery vessel
This was one of several pieces acquired at of an estate sale of a person that traveled extensively in Central America during 1950s-1980s. The bowl has a stirrup-style handle formed by a reptile/iguana figure. It has four“coffee bean” bumps on either side of the vessel. Although called"coffee-bean" these were frequently produced in Costa Rica long before the introduction of Coffee in the 1700s. This is an exceptional example of Costa Rican Pottery and is in excellent condition with no identified cracks or chips. My research indicates this is an example of Central American pottery with the characteristics of pottery produced in Costa Rica/Panama prior to 1500. There are no incisions or other markings. No Returns Accepted.
