This beautiful artifact. Ceremonial necklace was brought in to my store on consignment recently. It is the certainly the most exquisite example of Pre-Columbian Mayan Jade I have ever seen. The color is consistent throughout all beads, a beautiful marbled green with some blueish undertones. My client, a native of Guatemala, is a long time(50+ years) collector of South American artifacts, and has several museum quality pieces. This piece was passed down from her father, also a collector and one time museum curator. The overall length is about 15.5" The largest ax focal bead is about 1 3/8" long, and 1 1/8" wide and 1/4" thick. The Roundell beads graduate from about 3/8 to 3/4" across. hello after much thought I have decided to put up for sale part of my collection which I adquired from my dad while I was kid in guerrero. Mexico. I have owned this pieces for quite a long time and have been apraised by arqueologist at the INAH( Instituto Nacional de Antropologia e Historia) National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico city in chapultepec. Offering what may be a reproduction of a Pre-Columbian Mayan or Aztec pottery figure/figurine. But I'm not certain of this. You see, there are pock marks and raised pumps in some places on this piece, but I also recall seeing a show about Pre-Columbian pottery figures on National Geographic where there was mention that making molds from existing figures and then making more figures with those molds was not completely unheard of with the Mayan and Aztec peoples, and it was actually a common practice to help the artisans save time and energy. That is how I remember it, and I have a good memory, but you'll have to do your own research on this one. He does look old, for what that's worth; please see all images. He measures 7 inches high at the top of his headress by 3.5 inches across at his headress by 2.5 inches across at his arms ... moreby 2.26 inches deep at his arms, and he weighs right at 1 lb, 4 oz's. His right foot is missing, there is a small, shallow chip to the left side of his nose and there are a few small scratches and scuffs, here and there. This pre-Columbian pottery vessel is from the Mayan culture and has a diameter of approx. 8" and is 2" high. This example originally had two lug handles with finger depression on each side though this example is missing the one lug handle and has one rim shard missing. Dating c.250-900 AD. This example is the typical"poor mans" version since some Mayan bowls can be quite extravagant in style and workmanship. Condition: one lug handle is missing and the other has a chip; one large rim shard was glued into place and one 1 1/2" section of rim is missing; 5-6 minor rim nicks; overall about 95% intact and a nice example of a Mayan bowl. Mayan Jalisco Figure Ceramic Woman, fertility, pre columbian Maya ceramic 1800BP
PreColumbian Mayan Woman Fertility Figure Available for purchase. A Pre-Columbian Mayan Female Fertility Figure, excavated in Jalisco, Mexico, and originally brought to the US in the 1970's. This piece dates to roughly 1800 BP(Before Present) circa 200 AD. The figure is in good condition, given age, and only suffers from three damage points: there is a chip missing from the figure's left foot, at the point of the big toe; there is a chip removed from the underside of the right foot, underneath the toe area; the figure's right arm has been field repaired and the original crack is visible on close inspection. Ceramic is smooth and glazed, and there is pigment toning on the hair, body, etc. Examine pictures for more information.
