This mola was sealed in a box and put in storage by Kit Kapp in 1971- and did not see the light of day until March of 2014. Some molas have a sense of visual presence that is overwhelming. Museum Quality Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Kuna Mola - Anchors
Museum Quality Anchors Mola.Collected by Kit Kapp. This Esnas(anchors) mola has outstanding workmanship. A great color pallet and wonderfully quirky use of embroidery- which shows up randomly, without really contributing to the central design of the piece. I've always been fascinated by this weird/unpredictable use of embroidery. It's normally found on early pieces, but this is clearly late 1960s- so go figure. An exuberant and charming mola with great colors and condition. This piece was in storage from 1971 until March of this year when several hundred molas came out of Kit Kapp's storage unit. 18.5" x 15" A comment on pricing: I believe some of the pieces I will be listing in the next couple of weeks are far more valuable than the opening bid price- because of design. Museum Quality Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Kuna Mola - Ocean Waves
Museum Quality Ocean Waves Mola.Collected by Kit Kapp. This is a Temal(ocean waves) mola. I very much like Kuna abstract pieces. Especially when they have strong color balance like this piece. It shows very much like an abstract painting. Great workmanship. Like-new condition. Vibrant colors. This piece was in storage from 1971 until March of this year when several hundred molas came out of Kit Kapp's storage unit. 18.5" x 16" A comment on pricing: I believe some of the pieces I will be listing in the next couple of weeks are far more valuable than the opening bid price- because of design. Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Kuna Mola - Museum Quality Galu Mola With Ansugana
Museum Quality 1960s Kuna Mola- Galu Spirit Fortress With Ansugana(Evil Mermaids) Collected by Kit Kapp. A terrific example of a"galu" or"kalu" mola centered around a male human figure wearing a triangular hat. Kit Kapp called this figure a"spiritual sheriff" and in this case the sheriff is surrounded by spiritual bad guys- ansugana(the plural of ansu) or devil mermaids. One of the most feared figures in Kuna mythology, because they lure Kuna fishermen into"pirwi" or whirlpools.Workmanship, color and condition are all great. A very nice, very collectible mola. Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Mola - Museum Quality Dragon (Achusimatupalet)
Museum Quality 1960s Kuna Mola- Achusimatupalet(Kuna Mythological Dragon)Collected by Kit Kapp. One of the great creatures in Kuna mythology is Achusimatupalet- the dragon that eats the moon. In this example the dragon with curiously stunted wings is flaying through the starts on his way to the moon. The piece has a wonderful. Folky, cartoon-like feel to it. Beautiful colors, great condition. This piece was in storage since 1971 until March of this year when several hundred molas came out of Kit Kapp's storage unit. 18.5" x 14" A comment on pricing: I believe some of the pieces I will be listing in the next couple of weeks are far more valuable than the opening bid price- because of design. Museum Quality Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Mola - Cocle TV Symbol
Museum Quality 1960s Kuna Mola With Design from Cocle Pre-Columbian Culture.Collected by Kit Kapp. The figure yous see on this mola originated on ancient pottery from the Cocle culture in Panama- but that's not where the Kunas got it. A Panamanian TV station used this image for its logo. And the Kuna's copied the TV logo. Great face and imagery. Wonderful condition. Museum Quality Kit Kapp Collection 1960s Mola - Fledgling Birds
Museum Quality 1960s Kuna Mola With Fledgling Bird Design.Collected by Kit Kapp. This design seems to have been introduced in the 1960s. Right about the time this piece was made. It depicts two small birds on their first-ever flights out of the nest. Wonderful detail, great drawing, superbworkmanship, bright colors, perfect condition- this is truly a museum quality piece. Note the weirdly abstract little bird in the upper right corner, right below the appliqued letter"JULCOAN. This piece was in storage since 1971 until March of this year when several hundred molas came out of Kit Kapp's storage unit. 19" x 17" A comment on pricing: I believe some of the pieces I will be listing in the next couple of weeks are far more valuable than the opening bid price- because of design.
