It has beautifully executed carved figural relief panels which include four main scenes: A man on foot with a pistol. Shooting a rider on a horse that is rearing up as the rider falls and drops his sword. A scene with two riders. One of whom has his sword upraised against the other while that man has lain down on his horse. Hat fallen to the ground. A horse a goat. And a pig, with the goat rearing and the pig facing the other two. A man in a sombrero riding bareback on large running bull. In addition. The front of the bank depicts a man’s ... moreface with abalone or mother-of-pearl inset eyes and carved features, including eyebrows, a round opened mouth, and a mustache. The rest of the bank has geometric floral and rope-like designs and borders, in the‘Rancho’ Spanish Colonial style. I suspect that the man with the pistol. The man with upraised sword, and the man on the bull are all the same person and that this bank records some important events in his life, much the same as an ex-voto painting. Some of these may be scenes of the Mexican Revolution and the man may have been a farmer. The depiction of the pistol and the curved sword do look to be 19th century, so maybe this piece dates to an earlier era than the Revolution(Circa 1910) The depictions and details are the best. Age: 1920's- 1940's. Size: Green mask height is 9.25" 23.5 cm) And width is 5.75" 14.5 cm) The other masks height is 9" 22.75 cm) and width is 6.75" 17 cm) Condition: Good overall condition. As shown in photos. There are condition issues regarding the painted surface on both masks, such as flaking, cracking, and losses.
