Museum Quality 1970s Kuna Mola - ex Parker Neal Collection - Angels & Cross
Museum Quality Mola- Angels Praying to"PAP DUMMAT" Cross- Collected by Ann Parker and Avon Neal. Parker and Neal are best known for having first thoroughly documented this kind of acculturated mola. It is a super example of how the Kuna's will seize imagery from other cultures and use it in their molas with adding their own cultural touches. The two angels are clearly Christian in origin. While the cross could be Christian or Kuna- both cultures used it- but is likely Christian. But the cross is labeled with clearly-Kuna wording"PAP TUMMAT" translates to"Big Father" or"God" or, may favorite, Big Daddy. It is the Kuna way of saying"God. IKAR NUEDI" translates as"beautiful way. Cool combination of cultures! Sorry, I've been reading too much James Ellroy lately. Very well cut and ... moresewn- about as good as it gets. Another true masterpiece. Outstanding provenance. 18" x 13.5" Collection of Ann Parker and Avon Neal. Molas. Folk Art of the Cuna Indians. Is one of the most important mola books ever written. Outstanding provenance. 17" x 14" Collection of Ann Parker and Avon Neal. Molas. Folk Art of the Cuna Indians. Is one of the most important mola books ever written. Archaic-Style 1960s-1970s Kuna Mola From Huber Collection: Animal Spirits Purba
Purba(Animal Spirits) Mola Collected by Bob and Marianne Huber. Very boldly drawn. This mola has a very archaic feel to it and is graphically very strong. It depicts two facing animals- probably lizards- each with a spirit figure(purba) arising from its back. Late'60s or early'70s. Some discoloration- see photo. 17.5" x 15" The Huber Collection. Bob and Marianne Huber started collecting molas in the late 1960s. And went on to make a documentary film about mola making in 1973. An exhibit of Kuna art from the Huber collection was exhibited at several European museums including the British Museum. Please note that by bidding on this mola, you grant me the right to use its image in the production of a book and web site on mola art. Thanks for reading.

1960s - 1970s Kuna Child's Mola Blouse: Bird Spirit Fortress
Sikwi Galu(Birds' Spirit Fortress) Kuna Mola Blouse. The green-black-red color combination of this mola blouse works very well. Delivering a strong graphic impact. Note that the birds on one side use a different red cloth than the jungle-maze that forms the galu around them- so that over time the cloth faded to a pinkish red that makes the birds really jump out of the design. Really very beautiful. Excellent craftsmanship and condition. Mola panels measure 19" x 13" Note about pricing: I'm listing a lot of molas from my personal collection with starting prices that I believe are well below what they are worth. I will let Ebay buyers determine their real value. Have fun bidding! For more information on molas. Check out the Kuna Art Society page on Facebook.

Museum Quality 1960s - 1970s Kuna Mola - British Shilling
Very High Quality 1960s or Early 1970s Kuna Mola- British Shilling. This is the kind of mola that Kuna women get excited about. It has great balance. Design, color and execution. It depicts the obverse side of a British shilling coin. Excellent condition. This mola has been in my personal collection for many years. 20" x 16" A comment on pricing: I believe some of the pieces I will be listing in the next couple of weeks are far more valuable than the opening bid price- because of design. Execution, rareness and provenance. But I want to start at a low price and let the market decide how much they're worth. Good luck!
