BEAUTIFUL RARE ANTIQUE PONCHO Hand-woven ANDES INDIAN PERU Llama Wool Bolivia
This is a wonderful antique. Hard to find, Native Andes Indian Poncho. It was acquired by my parents while living and working in Peru during the war, in 1945. My mother collected fine textiles from the region, and this is one piece from her collection- collected from either Peru or Bolivia. There are two other fine, hand woven bags listed as well. It measures 45” x 45” With a slight pucker in the fabric(shown while laid flat) and is made of soft, hand spun, dyed natural sheep and llama wool. It is a smaller size poncho, from the region where it came, and is decorated with narrow bands of color ranging from vibrant pink, to some use of orange, light turquoise, surrounding on both sides, a plain center field of shades of brown and some hint of blue(see photos) My mother adjusted the center opening, so not to have to pull over her head– thus ... morethe half-opening shown to make it easier to wear. She also added a bottom facing to strengthen the piece and made it more wearable(shown) The top-stitching is visible in the photo's, but when worn, is hard to detect. Nonetheless, the facing can be removed, along with the stitching, if desired, and would not interfer with the integrity of the piece. T his piece has no damage. Antique Hand Woven Andes Native Poncho Textile Llama Wool Peru Bolivia Folk Art
For auction. A wonderful South American Andean poncho. It is very old, made of hand-dyed, hand-spun wool and woven into a beautiful pattern of indigo, brick-red, and whites. There are very long, tied tassels on both ends. The textile does have issues: mainly there are wear spots that have been repaired, some discoloration as shown, last photo, and the foldline down the center that forms the hood is thin in the weaving from wear, photo 10. As is common in this garment style, the hood is sewn by placing two edges together; some of those stitches are undone, photos 8& 9. Even so, this is a marvelous textile to be displayed, or used in some other creative, repurposed way. It is quite heavy, hence the higher shipping. This is a no-reserve auction. Thanks for looking. Vintage Bolivia Ecuador Amazon Quechua indian tribal Ceremonial necklace toucan
Up for your considerate is a very rare one of a kind hand made Ceremonial Tribal Necklace that came from either Ecuador or Bolivia dating back to the 1920's. It is reputed to be from Amazon Quechua Indians. But that is pure speculation, what we do know is that it was purchased from natives in either Bolivia or Ecuador in the 1920's. I acquired this many years ago at a family estate sale. As I recall they told me that either their father or grandfather(an ancestor) worked as in engineer in both Bolivia and Ecuador during that time(1920s) and brought back many native indian objects. This is one of two ceremonial necklaces that were in his collection and offered for sale. I acquired both necklaces. I hold these items in great esteem. And treasure them very much but I have decided to put this one up for sale. I must admit in all of my ... moreyears of collecting I have never come across anything similar to this and doubt that you will ever see another similar extraordinary piece for sale. IT IS TRULY UNIQUE AND ONE OF A KIND LIKELY NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN The ceremonial neckless is composed of Job's Tears seeds and another unknown seed. Sulphur Breasted Toucan breast feathers and Toucan Beaks or some similar Large Yellow Breasted Toucan, plus Emerald Toucanet Breast feathers and beaks. There are a total of 7(seven) Toucan Beaks and 10(ten) Toucan Breast feather Patches You can tell from the photos that this necklace was labor intensive to make and no doubt took a considerable amount of time. If not only to acquire the Toucan parts needed to assemble such a piece. It is absolutely stunning to look at and realize that indigenous amazon indians hunted Toucans and kept their beautiful plumage to fashion such a ceremonial necklace. AMAZING. I paid a lot for this necklace many many years ago so its not being sold lightly nor cheaply. I value it considerably and I am only selling it because I need funds to purchase something else I want.
