I am offering this. Antique, Mexican, OLD MAN, Hola Viejo” Pink Faced, carved, wooden mask-on stand as pictured. It is late 1800’s to early 1900’s. I acquired this piece when I lived in Florida. From a collector who purchased it from a high end gallery in New York City years ago. It has oil marks from facial oil on the inside- so it has been“danced” And also has old termite damage from long ago. It has several old coats of paint, and loss of paint, and lots of wear, and an old repair for a crack on the top, that looks great. Whatever happened condition-wise was perfect. It is truly a fine mask, and shows very well as you can see. I am moving back to Florida from Arizona, and am selling my collection. It has been one of my favorite pieces, and I would like someone else to enjoy it now. Antique 1920s-30s Christian Saint, Rabinal, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala Wooden Mask
I purchased this from an antique dealer whom purchased from the estate of: a noted Seattle[Washington] antique and art collector" Per the tag. The antique dealer suggested it was from 1806. I was never fully under the disillusionment that this mask was 207 years old. However, I did think it was perhaps as old as the 1850s. The reference to 1806 is in all likelihood a cataloging number. Seller number, or otherwise and was never meant to be the date. Upon the Saint's arrival to my home I noticed that the reverse of the mask was bored out using traditional carving techniques as well as the use of a modernized 1 inch(power tool) drill bit. That all said. Giving the drill bit technology and the style of the mask, I reasonably believe this mask is likely from the 1920s- 1930s. Its likely too much of a stretch to think turn of the century. ... moreStill. This mask would therefore be approximately 80-90 years old. The mask easily has 3-4 layers of paint(this is best noted by the chip on the lower left side of the chain- see pics) This is a common practice of the rental shops in Guatemala and expected for a mask of this age in my opinion. Its my belief that the variations in the blue 5 o-clock shadow are just that. touch-ups by the rental shop. In contrast however. A collector along the way likely tried to stop the cracking in the paint by adding a few touches of clear-coat which over time that have since yellowed. In traditional style the nostrils have blood dripping from them The gold on the mask upon close in-person inspect does have faint flakes/sparkles to it. Tag on the reverse is likely from the 1950s-60s and is likely original to the Seattle collector. String is not original to the mask. Four holes for string on the sides of the mask. Antique Jaguar Mask Guatemalan South American Wall Hanging Wood Carving Folk Art
Amazing wood carving in the form of a jaguar's head. Jaguar with open mouth showing bloody teeth. Hand painted in great detail. I believe this is carved from a lightweight wood. The head measures 8 1/4 inches from front to back. 6 1/2 inches from side to side, and is about 6 1/2 inches tall. Measurements were taken with head sitting flat on surface. The opening in the back doesn't seem large enough for the mask to be worn. I do not know the origin nor the age of the mask. More pictures available upon request. It's in great vintage condition.

I am offering this. Antique, Mexican, Hand Carved, wooden mask as pictured. It is late 1800’s to early 1900’s. I acquired this piece from a collector who purchased it from a high end gallery in New York City years ago. It has oil marks from facial oil on the inside- so it has been“danced” It has several old coats of paint. And loss of paint, and lots of wear, and an old repair for a crack on the top, that looks great. Whatever happened condition-wise was perfect. Antique (19th Cent.) Guatemalan Dance Mask Alvarado to Portocarrero Conversion
This antique mask has seen some things in its life! It started out as a"Pedro de Alvarado" But during its last leg of life was was transformed into a"Pedro Portocarrero" Pedro Portocarrero was Alvardo's right hand man during the conquest and looked very similar(minus the blond i.e. gold hair) I am assuming the cost of gold paint was the sole reason that this lovely mask ever witnessed this transformation; In that way. Its a very interesting piece of history and certainly not something done afterthefact by a collector. Although there is no moreria(rental shop) masks on the back of this mask there are several things that strongly attest to its master craftsmanship and time/dedication to create it. As of late. I am also convinced that there were far fewer reasons to even have moreria marks on a mask this age(the community ... morewas smaller, more close knit, and there were even fewer morerias.so all reasons why one might not be concerned over confusion of mask-ownership. Please take note. There appears to be an old repair as most obviously seen from the rear of the mask running vertically on the right. Notice the tongue? Look inside. its the first I've ever seen. a peg of wood has been inserted to look like a tongue. Also notice the way the skin wrinkles as it meets the upper nose. an impressive artist capturing of this subtle detail. The carver also went to great lengths to ensure this mask fit snugly. Was deeply carved, and was comfortable to wear in the nose and chin areas Look at the tip of the nose. this thing has probably close to a dozen paint layers in terms of thickness. Its impressive! To me paint layers are rather remarkable. to my knowledge repairs and repaints are only done as necessary.I.e. a moreria shop wouldn't just repaint a mask unless it needed it. So if this mask was danced once annually and had say 10 paint layers then this would rather easily attest to far more years of actual use. I have absolutely no idea what this is so please excuse me for sounding so stupid! This beaded panel came from the estate collection of a prominent Toronto family. As you can see by the other items there are some very fine and rarely found pieces listed. I will let you decide fi this may be one of them! The piece shows good and legitimate age throughout. The piece has an unusual design with lizards. Masks, ect. The piece shows some wear and could use a cleaning but is overall in substantially good condition. This is a WONDERFUL old antique carved stone mask that I believe is Mayan. I purchased this mask years ago at a estate auction in Avon Indiana. It measures approx. 7 1/2" tall by 7 1/4" wide& is has been broken at some point& glued back together. The holes all appear to have been flint drilled& there is signs of crustacean deposits. Lovely Antique Carved Cedar Mask Native West Coast ? South Latin American Mexico

Please let us know and we will email them to you directly. We are offering to you a wonderful old hand carved mask. This is an amazing old piece that was carved in what looks like cedar. The wood is quite light. This 18.75" long mask weighs only 582 grams or 1.2 lbs. It has old original green paint and what looks like red paint that has nice age wear and are"dry" colors. The piece has soiling and the colors are hard to see. We have had quite a hrad time with identifying this piece. It was bought in the 1960's at an antique store in Calgary. It is quite old and the photos of the back and bottom tell it all. It was hewn from a solid log and has wonderful age"burn" ... moreboth on the back and the green paint. Has a great head dress. The bottom edge has age wear and old dry rot Not signed that I can see. Not sure of the origin of this piece. Could be West Coast Native. Mexican? or South American. I lean towards Mexican area but I am no expert on these masks. It is a lovely piece of art that was carved by a master. Would look great showcased on a wall in your lovely home. All in good shape with normal age wear and a fine patina. We recently bought a collection of wonderful African. South and North American, and other rare old Ethnographic Tribal pieces that we are listing. This collection was bought from a long time collector of fine Ethnographic Tribal Items. Mexican Spanish Colonial Antique Mask Glass Eyes
Antique mask. Hand made. In excellent condition. Although some minor age wear on chin which is how I purchased it years ago. It appears to have glass eyes that look real. Nicely painted in great colors. Big parrots on each side. He simply looks like he is real! It's marked M I C on the inside. Measures 9" long by 7" wide. Really nice!
