Written on the back of this framed fabric art is a note saying this was made by a Kuna Indian on an island off Panama. The fabric part is about 5.5 x ... more8.5 inches in size, the frame is larger. Some damage spots on the frame, but generally this is in nice shape. The item winner is to pay for the shipping charge ebay sets there, if you get more than one thing try to use the 'add to cart' button instead of the 'buy it now' one as sometimes that way the computers can figure out the postage savings automatically....still though sometimes we just have to do it later. Anyhow, I'm just an easy going farmer so if you aren't happy with the item, no big deal, just let me know. I'd rather not ship this internationally because the cost would be horrendous, but if you need a quote let me know.

You are buying the intricate detailed vintage mola in the first photo created by a master mola maker. Great technique, a highly collectable& authentic ... morefolk art panel once created by a master Kuna Indian maker. A vintage hand stitched Blouse mola with a tropical reef l'hermit crab shell motif surrounded by a detailed background of traditional time consuming labyrinth maze reminiscent and inspired from the brain coral that surrounds these tropical islands. Intense masterpiece of technique such as the time consuming little triangles and circles inside the crab also rendered to perfection. collected in the field. 16" x 12" Great colors combination. So vivid too, and lots of rich minute and perfect embroideries as well Time consuming to create completely by hand. collected in Ustupu Island. San Blas. Panama. Item 7A in the fish category. Molas are wonderful traditional folk art hand stitched fabric panels that the Kuna women. From Indian tribes living in the remote San Blas islands off the coast of Panama, wear on the front and back of their blouses. They are masterpieces of time consuming intricate textile art, each created by an artistic accomplished seamstress with imagination, technique, originality and talent and each is unique: they are delicately and minutely hand sewn recreating either an abstract geometric motif reminiscent of body tattoos from their past, the brain coral that surrounds the islands. Or inspired by kuna history, religion, shamanism or daily life and by what surrounds the makers such as nature, birds, animals, etc… and they are highly collectable in the world or textiles and visual arts. We sell them to museums and collectors all over the world. Each of our molas was removed from a blouse after we purchased it and is an original authentic fabric panel. The most authentic. Original, the purest and truest of all molas ever created were the geometrics ones and a must for any serious collection, harder and harder to locate today because most were created from the 1940’s to the 197

HAND MADE! 16.25 x 14 Three layers This is the first mola of a pair(the other listed separately) which shows the progression of a bird's(child's) ... morelife. In the"old" days. The norm was that the two molas were different but related, as are these two. Now I find that most of the modern molas I see are the same, as identical as possible. The molas are brighter than you see in my photographs. Which are suffering because I am taking them in the house during Miami's summer heat. In this pair. The first mola shows the newly born swan; this mola shows the older swan spreading its wings and ready to leave the nest. Each mola is mirrored. Both molas are alike in that the design shows. On each side, the mother and father swans together but facing opposite, with the small bird resting in the center where their long, graceful necks meet, safe and sound, in Kuna protection mode. Since I don't think this is a physical possibility, I call it a fantasy. The creator of the molas has completed her work with filler items of all kinds. As is required by the Kuna for good molas. You will see Kuna symbols, embroidery in abundance, and creative artistry. I think she wore these molas with pride. I sometimes forget to state that my molas are hand made and what the quality of the stitching is. That is because they are all hand made and the quality of the stitching is always above average. The reason that I was attracted to molas back in the 60s was the stitching. The stories and the designs came later for me. Any questions. Just let me know. I love to combine items to save you money. If you are combining. Please do not pay eBay's invoice. Just tell me when you are ready and I will invoice you when you have completed your purchases. My invoice will have the correct total, including your postage. Thank you for your interest in my auction. If you have the time. Please check out the other items on my page. Thank you. Nancye
