The images mirror each other so this ... moreis a true pair and the lamps feature two different views. On one side is a striped awning, draped pavilion with tiled floor. It's a party with elegantly dressed and coifed Lords and Ladies conversing while servants offer refreshment. On the opposing side is a lovely longtailed songbird in a rose thicket surrounded by butterflies. Both scenes are topped by raised golden lizards with long tails. The handles are green opposing or"kissing kitties" The"walls" dividing the scenes feature 2 pairs of scaled google eyed coy fish and abundant flora decoration. The surface of the lamps has a wonderful slightly raised texture where the paints were applied. The photos do not do proper justice to these fabulous lamps! They are large. Measuring 16 1/2" to the top of the vase and 9" wide. The mounts are antique brass and the bases are footed chinese wood stands in dark brown. I have just replaced sockets in both lamps and they function beautifully. The shades shown are not included in this auction but if you want them, I will include them in a separate box for an additional $100.00 plus shipping. In my opinion, these lamps really should have large custom made tall drum shades. This pair was purchased from a wealthy estate in South Beach about 10 years ago and are VERY FINE. I do not know the exact age and I am not going to take them apart to see the markings on the bottom of the vases. Ebay limits the number of photos to 12. In pretty nice shape as the pics show with some scratches/ wear to the mirror surface and the wood has had some repairs as well as some imperfections which is to be expected with a piece that is over 200 years old and it comes exactly as shown. I have the original receipt when they purchased the piece in the 1980's and I will include that with the piece. You are bidding on a Friedman Brothers#6243 mahogany Chippendale mirror. This mirror with its intricate Chippendale scroll trim. Gold leaf shell and trim, around the heavy beveled mirror is a beautiful Colonial Williamsburg style mirror. This mirror is in great shape other than a crack in one of the scrolls on the top left, see photo) which I think was repaired at the factory as it is under the finish coat. Striking antique hand carved mirror in the Chippendale style. Wood frame looks like it was made from maple and has been decorated with gilt work. Which has faded a little with time. Elaborate fan or palm leaf shaped carving at the crest is mirrored by more simple fretwork below the mirror. The mirror itself is surrounded by a rectangular beaded frame. The mirror hangs by a twisted piece of wire on the back. No maker's mark. Unsure of exact age, but I would guess it dates from the late 1800's. Overall. The mirror is in good condition, however there are some cracks and damage to the carving above the mirror. See pictures. As mentioned above, the gilding has faded as well. The glass itself is in very good condition with little or no silver loss. As such it may not be original to the piece. No other breaks or damage. Antique Miniature Chippendale Mirror Looking Glass Early 19th c. 10.5" x 5.75"
Antique Chippendale miniature or apprentice mirror or looking glass in beautiful original finish. The mirror was hand made. You can see the saw marks and slight variations in the cuts and flourishes. I'm not sure if the mirror and backing are original, I didn't want to remove the backing given that it would entail removing 10"dome" top brads and wasn't sure I could remove and replace without doing harm. If the glass is replaced then it was done a long time ago. I don't see any evidence of a label leading me to believe that it is early and possible small shop or one of a kind. I purchased the mirror from an estate in Montclair. NJ almost 20 years ago. I found the mirror in a leather top hat box that was very early and tucked deep into an attic corner eaves. Antique 1800 Chippendale mirror Very unique small size I have been selling and buying antiques for years and years. This is the first time that I've seen one this size. I just love it! Two of the scrolls have very slight damage. This is very very common for the Chippendale mirrors. I don't see any glue repairs- so nothing has been broken and then repaired. Lovely vintage Chippendale wall mirror made out of mahogany. This style is a true classic. Design is an arched top that surrounds an urn finial. It is a classic beauty. This piece is in good vintage shape and is very heavy. There are a few"dings" in the frame, but nothing that detracts from it's formal grace. The mirror is in good condition as well.
