Vintage Barbola Mirror deep bevel early 1930's Cabbage Rose
I bought 2 wonderful mirrors in 1973 at an Antique Shop in Bath. England. Selling the small one keeping the large one. I have moved into a small senior apartment and have to downsize"some" This style is charming. Delightful cabbage roses, flowers and leaves. The term"barbola" refers to an ornamentation. Usually flowers, made from a soft clay. The soft clay is made with Barbotine. The mirror itself measures 6 inches round. With a deep bevel over a half inch wide. The mirror has some darkening around the perimeter from age. photo 4 Photo 5 shows light cracks on the top of the barbola flower arrangement. From age and settling. BEAUTIFUL BARBOLA MIRROR. This mirror is super old and its been painted a gold color and its got the best rose swags that droop down. Its also got a gesso top. It is missing some gesso work in areas(bottom right corner missing a piece and the top right corner is missing a small piece near the swag and on the top of the side piece, see photos for what I am referring to. Its not that bad for its age though. The mirror has lots of age spots on it. I am just imagining this over you bathroom sink with some sconces beside it. Yummy.
