Antique 1870s BLACK FOREST Relief Carved Eagle Top Wood Frame OAK WALL MIRROR
I have up for sale a rare and beautiful vintage circa 1860s- 1880s Black Forest hand carved Hanging Wall Mirror. I believe that the frame is made of Oak- its relief carved with a bird. Possibly an Eagle on top. The bird has a glass eye and the talons are fixed on to a log. It measures approx 26-1/2" measured from the tip of the wing to the bottom of the vertical section of the frame,its approx 17-1/4" wide. The bird itself protrudes outward just over 4" The glass mirror itself measures approx 16-1/4" x 9" The frame is in very nice estate fresh as found condition. I am quite sure that the finish is the old original. Regardless it looks wonderful. It has a nice warm patina and recessed areas have darker coloration. Overall the frame is in Great Condition- other than some wear/small chip to the end tip of the birds beak ... morethe wood is in fantastic shape. Wear is light, the frame was well taken care of. The glass mirror is excellent- no silvering issues- no damages. I see that the bird is attached with 2 screws in the back. When I package it. I will take if off and package it separately. PLEASE HOLD OFF MAKING PAYMENT UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED MY INVOICE. I have not yet packaged and revise my listing in a day or so with for the shipping calculator because at the time of listing I had not yet found a box that will suitably accommodate the frame. The mirror is no longer clear but has imperfections, which.almost add to the appeal of this mirror. It comes from the mountains of Colorado, an area rich in mining history. A lot of the antiquities that end up at 9,000 feet have made their way up here in the 1800's and early 1900's via mules( and the Switzerland Trail railroad. Middle can be filled with anything from stained glass, carvings, or fabric to artwork or signage. It measures 47 1/4 inches by 20 1/4 inches. Inside, display space measures approx. 36 by 9 inches. All original hardware in place including brass ball feet. Hinges and chain for hanging. The interior includes 3 original beveled glass mirrors all original with lots of black spots, shadowing, yellowing etc. No chips or cracks to the mirrors. They are 7.75" by 9.75" The exterior of the frame features one panel of celluloid featuring a whimsical scene of female with a winged angel or cherub figure. She is reading by a rose covered fence. The exterior of this scene is trimmed with relief pattern of flowers, feels like it's all under plastic coating of some sort. The other 2 exterior panels are papered with chintz floral, probably old ... morewall paper or paper mache. The inner trim of the wood frame features a bulls eye carved pattern.
