The mirror measures 26" high from the top of the wood eagle's wingspan to the bottom of the wood crest. The diameter of the wood frame is 19" while the diameter of the convex glass mirror is 13 1/4" The wood frame. Eagle, and crest have no major cracks or damage which is rare for an mirror of this age and detail.A very small repaired crack on the bottom in the crest. 19th Century American Federal New York Mahogany Overmantel Mirror Beautiful Rare
Description American Federal Period New York Mahogany three panel overmantle mirror with a wooden spread eagle and garlands with gilded leafs would be a great addition to your home. Circa 1820. And originating in New York this mirror is fresh to the market. This mirror was purchased in 1984 from a antique store in Philadelphia as were numerous other pieces that this client is going to consign to us. This beautiful mirror with beautiful water gilding that has been used to cover the eagle and the decorative foilage has a melted appearance to it. The eagle is carved of wood and with a layer of gezo and the water gild applied as the finish. The primary wood of this mirror is mahogany with pine as the secondary. This mirror does retain the oirignal mirror. This American Federal mirror measures 59" in width. 39 1/2" in height. The eagle ... moremeasures 23" in width, 11" in height on the plinth. Condition The overall condition of this mirror is excellent. There are losses to the water gild. On the lower right corner of the mirror there is about 3/4" of the molding missing(see picture) The overall condition of the eagle is. 8 1/2 out of 10. There is shrinkage to the gesso on the back of the eagle as well as on the garland and leaves. The back of the mirror is pristine with the original panels with great oxidation. Antique Federal Brass/Bronze Mirror
This is an outstanding brass/bronze federal period mirror in original(as found) condition. The mirror has many interesting parts. At the top is an American Eagle perched on an oval(1.5" by 2" containing what appear to be the remnants of a heraldic crest. Under the crest is a larger oval 8.5” by 6.75" mirror also in original untouched condition. At the bottom of the mirror is a thirteen star shield representing the 13 original colonies. The back of the shield reads“Design Patented Nov. 25 1862” In total. The mirror measures 19" by 11.5” and weighs about 7.5 pounds. Please look closely at the photos as they tell the story, but if you have any questions feel free to e-mail me. It would be very simple to polish this mirror with Brasso and have it looking shiny and new, but many people value the old patina so I have changed ... morenothing. Nice Federal Style Eagle Topped Convex Mirror with 13 Balls representing the original 13 Colonies Made during WWII Era This is a great piece of history. I thought about restoring it and I still might if it does not sell in the next month or so. I just have too many other projects going right now. Back of the glass is dated 1941 as seen in the pictures. Mirro r measures approx. 29" Tall and 22" Wide Antique Convex Glass is in nice shape. I checked it over and did not find any cracks or chips in it. As you can see. The mirrored silvering is starting to wear. I think it adds character and helps show the mirror's age, but you could have it re-silvered to like new condition if that is what you are looking for. The exterior wood rim is in really good shape. There are some small signs of age and use and I imagine transport wear. The ... moreEagle up top is in really nice shape with 1 small spot of plaster that has chippe d. Hard to notice. The wreath at the bottom of the mirror has 1 small chip of plaster as seen in the pictures. There is paint wear on the 13 balls surrounding the mirror. I think that this mirror is unique in that it is not the bright gold finish. It is more of a"copper" or"dull gold" finish. One could refinish it into the bright gold that you see if that is to your liking. It is the"plasterized frame" which means that a small coat of plaster was spread over the wood frame prior to painting Other than that. Please take a good look at the pictures and determine if this mirror is right for you. I have seen these mirrors sell for $250 up to $1.500. Just depends on finding the right buyer at the right time. My starting price leaves you plenty of room to make money if you are thinking about restoring it and also serves as a solid investment if not. Description: Up for Sale is a beautiful Federal style Colonial Eagle convex“bullseye” or girandole mirror with 13 cannonballs surrounding the mirror for the 13 original American Colonies. The frame is made of wood and sculptured gesso with a gold finish. From the construction I would guess it is from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. It measures approximately 36" tall x 22 1/2" across with the mirror being approximately 18" across This item is pre-owned with normal wear you would expect on a piece of this age. It looks like a portion of the laurel wreath/vine on one side of the eagle has been repaired and the same goes for one part of the flourish below the mirror. The gesso is otherwise free of breaks or chipping but it looks like the paint has been retouch over the years in a few spots. The mirror is free of breaks. Cracks, ... morechips or silver flaking. Vintage Federal Convex Eagle Mirror Bulls Eye Gesso on Wood
Vintage Federal Eagle Convex Wood Mirror We are very excited to offer for auction a vintage Federal Convex Mirror. This bulls eye mirror is constructed of wood and measures 25" tall(from the top of the eagles wing to the bottom of knot of the frame) and 17 5/8" at widest point in diameter. The mirror itself is approximately 13" in diameter. The mirror has darkened to an antiqued silvery tone and may even be mercury glass as there is a gray coating visible on the edges of the back side. Due to age there is not a super bright or high reflection off this mirror. The eagle and laurel details are beautifully carved with very nice detail. There is evidence of age but it has a great look and really adds characater to a room. Condition: There are some condition issues and I have taken that into account with my starting price. There ... moreare a some cracks in the gesso and some surface paint loss on the top of the balls as well as the tip of the right wing of the eagle. There are two cracks on the wood backing of the laurel but it does not move and is very stable. It does look like some of the laurel have been re-attached(glued) on the left top side but there are no missing pieces. There is also a repainted area on the right upper portion of the circular frame(I assume to cover some dings) as well a small amount on the laurel that touches that edge. Eagle Mirror (Federal ?) Wood & Plaster
This mirror measures 13 inches from the top of the eagles head to the bottom of the mirror and 10 inches across. There is one small chip in the gold under the left side of the eagles wing and one small chip under the decoration on the bottom of the mirror. The mirror is made of wood with a gold overlay(plaster? Overall in pretty nice condition for it's age. The paper has ripped on the back of the mirror as shown in the photos. Fine. Antique Reverse Painted Mirror from the Federal Period(1820s) The subject of the painting seems to be an old Castle/Abby in the background with a couple of men resting and/or talking beneath tree. One of the men looks to be wearing an old-style Tricorn Hat. This is in Untouched Condition having never been restored or repaired and is Very Nice as such. Only a later heavy paper board between the mirror/painting and the beveled wood back has been replaced for protection of the back side of both the mirror and the painting. It looks to be at least 50 years old, minimum. I imagine the first protective piece disentigrated long ago. The Painting is Original as well as the Mirror. Antique hand carved Federal Eagle Convex round mirror in hand carved gilded wood. The mirror looks very old and we believe it to date from the late 1800's. We took lots of pictures so that the people interested can appreciate the way it is made and be able to estimate its age. The frame is all hand carved wood with a gold gilt surface. The convex glass is in excellent condition with very mild interior discoloration from age that hardly shows. The overall measurements are 32" high X 22" wide. The mirror only is 17 1/2" in diameter. As one can see clearly from all our pictures. The condition in general is very good, except for a small part of the eagle's head missing. Unfortunately this is how the mirror was found. This mirror. With reverse painting, was made in the 1860's thru 1870's it is from an estate in upstate NY. where it has resided for all of it's life, generations! This piece has had the back replaced with pine boards, as originally it probably would have been paper. The mirror I believe is original but I can't be absolute on that! The reverse painting is original and does show some lose of paint, probably from being in an old house with varying degrees of temperature and humidity. The frame is made of maple wood. The mirrors size is 21 1/4" tall and 11 1/4" wide. The condition I would say is good, so please look over all photos and judge for yourself as it is, 140+ years old! Antique Federal/Sheraton Wall Mirror. With Reverse Painting. This lovely antique mirror features a refinished frame(with exception to the very top. Which was left with the old finish intact) The frame features fluted columns trimmed at the bottom with brass medallions. The reverse painting above the mirror that features the Sailing Schooner is a replacement. But a rather nicely done one at that. A perfect fit for this mirror. The glass in the mirror is the original and its condition speaks for its age as well as its beauty! Measurements are- 21 and 1/4 inches tall by 13 and 1/4 inches wide by 2 and 1/2 inches deep. Small Hand Dated 1940's Federal Convex Mirror with Carved Eagle Small Hand Dated 1940's Federal Convex Mirror with Carved Eagle. Composition: Appears to be some type of ceramic or other synthetic material. Certainly not wood though. Someone at one time wrote the date of Aug-1949 on the back of the frame. Size: Overall Width: 8 1/2" inches Overall Length: 13" inches Mirror Diameter: 5" inches. Condition: Mirror appears to be slightly darkened or cloudy. Still displays quite well. Back panel may have been replaced at one time. A little of the gold coloring is worn off at places. Though it looks nice like this as it reveals nice aging. A hairline crack in the back of the right eagle wing that does not penetrate the wing and thus does not affect the integrity or look of the frame. No damage noted.
