Two small chips. Border with heart shaped leaves. This is transferware. And a delightful piece of French history. 10 ½ diameter 26cm diameter l lb 6 oz 620g To make transferware. An involved process began with a design etched on a copperplate like an artist would make for an engraving. The pattern from the copper plate was printed on paper with glaze. Then the paper was placed, by hand, on the ceramic piece to transfer the glaze. The earthenware. Porcelain, etc. was then fired in a kiln. ANTIQUE PORCELAIN BOWL, FLOW BLUE TRANSFER WARE FROM TURN OF THE CENTURY, FRANCE
For your consideration is a rare porcelain blue tint or blue wash transfer ware bowl loosely imitating the Hirado look from the turn of the century. The design is a toile like pattern of flowers and hearts done in“flow black” monochrome transfer and pale Goso blue tint or wash. The bowl was hand crafted on a potter’s wheel and not press molded. Upon closer examination you can actually see some of the shaping marks left by the tools. The bottom is marked with an under glaze FRANCE mark. The condition of the bowl is good. Not perfect. There are some small imperfections left from where the porcelain did not fully cover some smaller spots. It has had a small chip repair to the base and there is a visible crack that shows from the inside of the bowl but not from the exterior side. There are no chips or nicks to the rim(Please see pictures) The ... morebowl isn’t as bad as my description might make it sound. It has the genuine feel of something rare and very old. Well preserved and an excellent example of blue transfer ware from 100 years ago. You can display and enjoy it with pride. The bowl measures 5-1/2” in diameter and stands 2-3/4” tall. Lowestoft Blue Transfer Printed Three Flowers Soft Paste Porcelain Bowl 1775
Lowestoft Blue Transfer Printed Three Flowers Soft Paste Porcelain Bowl 1775. Offered for sale is a blue and white bowl transfer printed in the"Three Flowers" pattern. The only mark is a painted crescent mark. You can see the blue of the pearlware glaze where it pools in the foot rim. The bowl dates to 1775 to 1785. It measures 4 1/4 inches wide by 2 3/8 inches tall and weighs only 6 oz(shipping weight 15 oz) Both Worcester and Lowestoft produced this pattern and used the crescent mark. I attributed this bowl to Lowestoft based on the double line circling the interior rim. A typical Lowestoft treatment, and the fact that the crescent mark was roughly hand-painted; Worcester usually printed the crescent mark on its printed wares. ANTIQUE TRANSFER PATTERN LOW BOWL- G&W AESTHETIC PATTERN This auction is for an antique English transfer pattern low bowl dated Aug. 27 1881. The bowl stands about 1" tall on the outer edge and 9 1/4" wide from rim torim. The transfer pattern is from the Aesthetic movement and has a lot of hidden imagery including a reverse swastika cross within one of the repeat panels. Although the plate only shows consistent fine crazing and associated light brown staining. It has no'resonance' when struck, so there's probably an internal crack or the crazing has compromised the piece. Yet, no signs of chips or cracks are evident and the transfer pattern shows minimal wear from age or use. The factory backstamp is associated with Gildea& Walker and the pattern name is Melborne. THIS ITEM IS-this is an early piece of transferware(note the spellings) Transferware is a style of ceramics including pottery. Dinnerware, and other delicate items. It uses transfer printing, a decorative technique which was developed in England in the mid-18th century, particularly around the Staffordshire region. The process starts with an engraved copper plate similar to those used for making paper engravings. The plate is used to print the pattern on tissue paper. Then the tissue paper transfers ... morethe wet ink to the ceramic surface. The ceramic is then fired in a low temperature kiln to fix the pattern. This can be done over or under the glaze, but the underprinting method is more durable. The process produces fine lines similar to the engraved prints in old books. Before transfer printing ceramics were hand painted, a laborious and costly process. thanks wikipedia) THIS IS A REALLY COOL BOWL.
