And my photos definitely do not do it justice: On an ivory ground there is. Firstly, an overall pattern of extremely faint pale blue or gray foliage. On top of this are flowers. Foliage, baskets, and Japanese symbols in fantastic jewel-like colors of orange, green, blue, and gold. Finally. The rim of the bowl and the handle of the lid are trimmed in gold. The bowl measures approximately 3½” high with the cover on. And the bowl measures approximately 7¼” in diameter. This auction is for a Lovely Antique White Ironstone Semi Porcelain Soup Bowl made by J ohn Maddock& So ns of England in the mid to late 1800s. It measure about 9 1/2 inches across and is in very good condition especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks. It has age-appropriate utensil marks and a tiny dot on t he face(see last photo) It has the Crown Semi Porcelain Maddock backstamp. Please check my feedback and buy with confidence. Really nice blue and white bowl measures 9 inches across and 2 1/4 inches high. Has 1/8" inch chip on top edge and 3/8" chip mostly on underside. Bowl has a very uneven edge almost as if a thumb was used to press edges.like a pie crust. Has rack marks on back. Is marked on back in blue ink: a crown and circle) and inside circle John Maddock& Sons Royal Vitreous ENGLAND. underneath circle in blue: MEREDITH R.N. 252991. John Maddock used this specific mark in 1880 and changed it to add"ltd" in 1896. So I dated it as such. There is also a crown stamped INTO bottom. I can send pics of cracking or chips if desired. A wonderful example of the 1860-90's Royal Vitreous Dinnerware. This 10 1/2 inch Oval Vegetable Bowl was made by the John Maddock& Sons in Bursalem England. It is in the Indian Tree of Life Pattern. This small china oval bowl with cover is made in England by John Maddock& Son. It is really simple. All white, with a decorative docking fixture used as the handle. It is a very odd piece when compared with the rest of her collections. We do not know how she came to own it. The stamp closely resembles the one used in 1906. 5 1/2" length x 4 1/2" width x 4" depth.
