There is also wear that would commensurate with the age and use of the pitcher. The bowl measures approx. 15" in diameter by 3-3/4" tall. This pretty as well as unusual sponged bowl measures 10"25.4 cm) in diameter and 3"7.6 cm) high(or deep) The bowl features large round beads forming a design around the outer. Upper rim. I have never seen this before on any spongeware. It is in the shape of what the English call a"nappy" a milk or batter bowl with a flat bottom and angled sides, that don't bough out, but rather, have a straight angle for the sides. The sponge design is also very different, with a 12 pointed star design on the inside bottom of the bowl. There is a 1 1/2" 3.8 cm) matching sharp sponged design on the inside rim. There is also a 1"2.5 cm) sponge design on the outside surface of the bowl. The bowl itself is tin glazed earthenware. There is a light bluish color to the glaze that you can see where it pooled at the rim of the base. ... moreThis bowl was produced in the 1830's to sometime in the 1840's at the latest. This bowl is in lovely shape for its age, considering what it's made of. There is a very light brown line in the bottom, that does not go through to the back and does not feel like a hairline crack. Lot 2 Pair Antique Spongeware Yellow Ware Rockingham Bennington Bowls
Up for auction is a pair of 2 antique spongeware bowls. Made in the 1800s. The pattern was made by daubing a brown color onto a yellow colored background with cut sponges, brushes, or pieces of cloth. The earliest examples are English. But it was quickly adopted by the American pottery industry as well. I found these at a local estate. Nice to have two for display or use in the kitchen. These bowls measure 5" wide and 2" tall. Good condition. Considering the age. Both bowls have age crazing. One bowl has slight 1" crack at the rim, doesn't go all the way through and really hard to see. Offered at a low starting bid. For your consideration. A Gorgeous antigue spongeware bowl that I found at an Antique shop owner's estate sale! It is a lovely yellow and brown spongeware in very good condition. It comes with a lid and measures 7" across top(diameter)and it measures 3" deep(without lid) There is grazing inside according to age, there are no chips at all, and the lid is perfect! There is a hairline crack inside that I tried to capture, it does not take away from it's beauty and I mention it only for authentication. It has a clear glaze. There are no markings. It could be attributed to McCoy, Bennington, Rockingham or Morton. It is a suberb country house primtive! Any questions please feel free to ask! Presented is a beautiful and decorative Turks redware mold with spongeware decoration. This beautiful vintage piece is on the larger size and measures approximately 8.5" in diameter by almost 3" tall. The rich color of the redware glaze is warm and inviting. There is darker spongeware decoration towards the edges. There are fortunately no major chips or cracks to this piece. Only some minor wear to the glaze which is shown in the pictures. If you look closely at the top edge, you might find some very tiny flaking or fleabites. Overall it the item displays beautifully. Pretty little yellowware. Blue sponge bowl with gold around the lipped rim. Probably late 1800's A beautiful and early example of this genre in great condition for it's 100+ years of age. There are no cracks or chips. The flaws in the glazing are typical to it's manufacture. Several small worn areas on the bottom. Antique yellow gold green spongeware fruit compote ND2054
Beautiful spongeware fruit compote measures 10" in diameter and is 3 1/2" in depth. This bowl has a short pedeastal base and a scalloped or ruffled rim. It is yellow ware pottery. Fairly light weight and glazed in a yellow and pale green spongeware pattern with gilt highlights. It displays an overall glazing but no serious discoloration. There is on 3/4" hairline crack at the rim tha does not effect the integrity of the piece. There is a chip on the underside of the rim(visible in photo#4) and a pock mark on the underside of the base which may be a result of firing. ND2054 13H12 If you purchase this item. The bowl is made of earthenware and it is sponge decorated with a cobalt blue floral pattern around the rim and inside the bowl. The bowl is not marked and overall the bowl measures approximately 10 5/8" in diameter. Item Condition: The overall condition of the bowl is very good to excellent. It is extremely clean and it has no chips. Cracks, or repaired areas. The white earthenware is still very bright with no discoloration. And the blue color is bold with nice contrast. RARE Antique Cobalt Blue Spongeware Splatterware Stoneware 9" Art Pottery Bowl This listing is for a wonderful RARE Antique Cobalt Blue Spongeware 9" Art Pottery Bowl! The bowl is not marked. But through research I have found that it is most likely American, from the 19th century. I have seen others in the past listed as being Red Wing. I have no way of verifying any of this information. It came along with a pitcher we currently have listed. The bowl measures just over 9in wide and it is about 4.5in tall. It is quite old and in fair condition. There is some spotting or pitting to the glaze in areas. There are a few edge chips. Only the largest is immediately noticeable. There is some light discoloring in areas and some chips or imperfections to the underside rim. The inside of the bowl has many small pit marks, and what appears ... moreto be a superficial crack in a ring around the center. This does not go all the way though the bowl and does not appear or feel like it effects the structural integrity of the piece. Upon viewing very close up on the sides there are some craze or slight cracks. was unable to capture each imperfection up close in the images. None of the imperfections seem to compromise the structural integrity of the piece. Nor do they detract from its presence and beauty. This auction is for the wonderful antique mixing bowl pictured. It is in the excellent condition shown. This bowl has no chips. Cracks, or dings. It does have some minor glaze crazing on the inside of the bowl, but you have to look close to see it. I tried to show it in the pictures. There are stilt marks on the inside bottom of the bowl. A stilt is a pottery piece, used to seperate pieces of pottery that are stacked in the kiln, to keep them from touching and sticking together when fired. This bowl measures approx. 9 1/4 inches across the top and 4 inches tall. Has 2 distinct lines around the top outside edge. Look at the pictures closely and you can see them in the pictures. This is a handsome old yellow ware bowl decorated with brown sponged decoration. It is 2 1/2” in height with a diameter of 5 3/8” Like most spongeware. This bowl has no manufacturer’s mark. It is an older example and not to be confused with modern reproductions. It has the ubiquitous glaze crazing one would expect and desire in an old piece and our feeling is that it is from the 19th century. Albion Antiek Antique Spongeware Deep Bowl- Bird- Stick& Spatter This listing is for a nice and unusual antique pottery bowl. It is cut sponge decorated and features a bird in the middle. This bowl measures just over 9-3/4" across and 3-1/2" deep. There are two hanging holes in the standing rim(made during manufacture) This bowl is not marked but was probably made in France and dates to ca. 1900. There is quite some wear of the glaze from age and use. Also a fine hairline(see last close-up picture) but no other damage and no repair or restoration. An attractive piece of antique spongeware! Please excuse any glares(white patches) that you may see in the pictures. These are caused by reflections of light on the glaze and are not on the actual object itself.
