It is definitely not watertight and you can see daylight through the cracks. The bottom of the bowl is flat and the edge of the spoon is textured. Look at the photos. Have you seen a spoon like that? It's almost like a primitive spork ;-). At first I wondered if the spoon was made out of horn, but I think it is wood. It seems to have layers. I'm not an expert, just an appreciator who grew up with parents who loved antiques and this is from their home. I am only guessing at the age of this. It is from the East Coast so it could be older.

This is a nice primitive banded yelloware butter crock. One condition issue to mention is the hairline that runs through the E in butter. I have had good luck making pottery lines not look so visiable by soaking the piece in Oxyclean. Also 2 or 3 small fleas bites that are very hard to see on the bottom edge. Antique Primitive 2 Banded Striped Redware Red Ware Pottery Mixing Bowl 8” This is a beautiful heavy bowl which weighs in at 2.5 lbs. It measures 8” across. And 8 ½” across the other way– so it’s not quite round. The height is 4” and a bit less than that on one side. Inside there are a few small blobs of clay(2 nd to last photo) And 3 small bare spots with no glaze…as if the bowl sat upside down on 3 narrow posts while the rest of the bowl was glazed(see last 2 photos) Can someone explain what these are? Thanks! This bowl has some nice old wear to it. NO Chips. The brown spot on the stripe in the 5 th photo was part of the production process. Sold as is/as shown. This is an antique American yellowware pottery mixing bowl. It is approximately 5” in height and has a diameter of 9” It weighs approximately 3 lbs. The bowl is bottom impressed with“104/ and“U.S.A. This type of bowl was mold produced and came in various sizes. The rim collar underside and the rim surface were purposefully left unglazed. This is because the bowls were fired in kilns stacked together and this kept them from sticking together. Bowls like this were made c. 1880-1930 in the northeast and midwest especially in New Jersey and Ohio. This bowl has a hexagonal base with mold embossed decoration on the sides and rim collar. It also has 3 bands of blue slip decoration around the body which is glazed with an alkaline clear glaze. This particular bowl is an older bowl and was used. It has the ubiquitous crazing to the clear glaze that ... moreyou would look for in an older piece and age toning or mottling(see photos) Some of the glaze crazing resembles cracking. However. This bowl is overall good original condition given its’ age and the fact that it is a functional piece that was used. It has no cracks or repairs and displays well. This is a nice old item. Large fat rolled lipped rim. Two off-white stripes sandwiched between two orange stripes encircle the exterior. The color is best represented by the second and third photos. Approximate measurements 4" tall. 8” rim diameter. And 4 ¼” base diameter. Foot is about ½” tall. Good antique condition: no chips or cracks. One of the three spots(where the bowl rested during firing) on the bottom interior has greater wear than the other two. There is wear to glaze around the rim. The finish is crazed inside and out– appears quite old. Nevertheless. The glaze is still very shiny inside and out. Antique Pottery Slip Decorated 2 Banded Red Ware Mixing Bowl (redware) Signed
The bowl is redware with a 2-band slip decoration. It has no chips or cracks. There is some wear to the glaze in particular to the bottom interior of bowl which is consistent with the age. I estimate that it is from the early 1900's maybe a bit older. It is marked on the bottom with stylized letters that seem to be"GP" then below"CC" I don't know what the markings stand for. The bowl is just under 9" in diameter and 4" high. The three small light colored spots on interior of bowl are not chips. They are points where bowl rested during firing.

Antique 1800s Russian Art Pottery Bowl Dish Norwegian Folk Banded Edge Flower
Antique Bowl This auction is for a very old and very rare antique pottery bowl. The bowl comes from the estate of a Russian woman who said this was given to her as a present from another Russian family but she couldn’t remember if the bowl was Russian or from somewhere in Scandinavia– the family told her but that was around 50 years ago. She said the family was both Russian and Norwegian and the bowl was antique when she got it so it’s at least 150 years old now. I have three bowls listed right now and this one has a simple color band around the exterior and a nice painted flower in the center. The pottery is very dark brown and the bottom is completely unglazed. It looks like it was made specifically as a wall hanger and it measures about 8½" wide.
