This is an antique American yellowware pottery mixing bowl. It is approximately 5” in height and has a diameter of 9” It weighs approximately 3 lbs. The bowl is bottom impressed with“104/ and“U.S.A. This type of bowl was mold produced and came in various sizes. The rim collar underside and the rim surface were purposefully left unglazed. This is because the bowls were fired in kilns stacked together and this kept them from sticking together. Bowls like this were made c. 1880-1930 in the northeast and midwest especially in New Jersey and Ohio. This bowl has a hexagonal base with mold embossed decoration on the sides and rim collar. It also has 3 bands of blue slip decoration around the body which is glazed with an alkaline clear glaze. This particular bowl is an older bowl and was used. It has the ubiquitous crazing to the clear glaze that ... moreyou would look for in an older piece and age toning or mottling(see photos) Some of the glaze crazing resembles cracking. However. This bowl is overall good original condition given its’ age and the fact that it is a functional piece that was used. It has no cracks or repairs and displays well. This is a nice old item.
