Offered is this lovely and rare Dresden porcelain tall comport or centerpiece bowl made by Carl Thieme in Saxony. Germany. The stem of this piece features three figures of children, perhaps representing Cupid, or baby angels. We understand these figurals are sometimes called puttis. They cling to the stem of a reticulated bowl that is encrusted on the outside with hand modeled china flowers and foliage. The inside of the bowl is decorated with hand painted blossoms in the tradition of Dresden Flowers. The blossoms are framed by gold cartouches. A garland of flowers. Including roses, decorates the center of the bowl. The reticulated squares that form the side of the bowl take the form of a trellis. With painted or modeled flowers. The base of the compote features curved feet and reticulated sides with gold trim. It too is decorated with modeled ... moreporcelain flowers and foliage. The flowers and foliage extend up the stem of the piece. This centerpiece bowl is designed for use at the banquet table. To hold fresh fruit, with grape clusters hanging over the side. The compote stands 18 inches tall(46 cm) The bowl measures 11.75 inches by 10.75 inches(30 cm by 27.5 cm) It contains most of the decorative elements for which Carl Thieme is rightly famous. The company began in the 1860s and continues to the present. This piece is in very good condition. No chips or cracks that we can see. We have observed no damage to the porcelain flowers. But in all likelihood, a petal is missing here and there. We believe this centerpiece dates to the second half of the 20 th century. Reduced Price 3 day listing: Early 1900's German Dresden Floral Encrusted Centerpiece Compote. Victorian Rococo Revival Baroque Style Antique or Near Antique. This is 11 3/4" tall and the bowl is 9 3/8" x 9 1/2" The flowers& leaves seem to be all intact. There is 1 flower on the bowl& 1 on the base that has 1 pedal edge chipped, not enough to ruin the shape and 1 leaf on the base seems the same way very edge only, not enough to ruin the shape. Other than that maybe just minor"little specks" of paint loss or damage. Really the flowers are very good for the age. I did not see restoration. There are some separations in the green stems. This can be seen in Photo# 6. The bottom Dresden mark is from: Saechsische Porzellanfabrik Zu Potschappel Von Carl Thieme. Either 1914 or 1918 starting. The bowl is a little ... moreloose, it has been turned a lot, making marks where connected. I was afraid to try to tighten it myself. I have just displayed it as is" I did however see one just like this, that someone had some sealing compound or clay around. So that is an idea. There is a picture of the bolt pin, washer& felt pad. It is very rusted and someone might need to soak it a bit or spray it with an ointment to get it free, to tighten. The hand painted floral panels are very nicely done, on the bowl as well as the stem. I did not see much wear on the gold. These older ones have such nice beautiful colors. Large Antique Porcelain Bowl Carl Thieme Potschappel Dresden c1870 Hand Painted
Up for auction is this beautiful large size porcelain bowl. The bowl was manufactured in Germany by Potschappel(Dresden) and is beautifully hand painted with two colorful vignettes on either side. Both show a different rural scene with thatched cottages and country folk. Between these are two colorful floral bouquets. The heavy and thick bowl has a bright white ground with a top basket effect design with a swirl design around the bowl. They measure 10" in dia. x 5-3/4" tall. A large. Antique, German porcelain, center, fruit or console bowl. Fresh from a prominent Atlanta estate comes this elegant bowl. It is in the Classic"Dresden Flowers" pattern. Is trimmed with gold is pierced(reticulated) The flowers on the outside are raised& molded. It measures about 8 3/4" 22 cm. in diameter& 2 3/4" 7 cm. deep.
