The bird figure is a rare LARGE size. ... moreI bought this at an estate sale nearly 30 years ago in Menlo Park, CA. The mediterranean style house was constructed in 1911, and still held hundreds of original items, many of which were oriental. This bird figure was at the edge of a fish pond, and had a water feature that made water stream through the narrow slits in the pottery"reeds" around the herons feet and legs. If you look at the close up photo of the base, you can see where this was anchored to the edge of the fish pond with dabs of concrete. The heron is depicted standing among reeds as if in a swamp or a pond. It is a rare and spectacular piece of Chinese pottery. Great decorator piece inside or out. MEASURES: approx. 25" tall and it is approx. 17" at the widest point.from the back to the beak. CONDITION:GOOD+.it has a firing split on the inside. Which BARELY shows on the outside, and this happened during the manufacturing. It is very typical of this type of ware, and pottery collectors realize this.it is NOT damaged. A baby chick pops out of the lid as a handle. The spoon is also porcelain and is a figural chicken. The jar is 3" high, about 3 1/2" across with the handle, overall it is 4 1/4" high with the lid. A nice collectible glazed pottery jar with a lid. The lid has a colorful country scene on it-probably transfer. It has a house. Animals in a river and lady and man. The jar is 2 1/2 inches high and 4 in. across. It has several nicks and chips but is still very charming and collectible. These were likely used to contain toothpaste, cold cream, shavings cream and grease as well as other things. These were made 1840-1910 when they were replaced with less expensive jars after WW1. The jar is 5.75" tall and about 4.5" in diameter at the shoulder. the jar is in good antique condition with a few tiny chips around the lip(see photo#5& 6) and normal glaze slips. These jars were still in use around the turn of the last(20th) century because glass jars were still quite expensive. They were also hard to come by in the mountains of North Carolina. Antique pottery 1 qt canning jar w/zinc lid, pat. date Jan 24,1899
For your consideration is this antique primitive pottery canning jar. The history of this jar is that it was made by the Macomb Pottery Co. in Macomb. Illinois sometime between 1899 and 1906. In 1906 the Macomb company was bought by the Western Pottery Co. The patent date on the bottom reads Macomb Pottery Co. JAN 24,1899 Macomb, Ill. So with the facts here it cannot be older than 114 yrs. or newer than 107 yrs. I have listed the flaws of this item and photographed them as best I could. I am amazed that something as commonly used and as old as it is would still be in such good condition. It is 7" tall& 4 1/2" diameter at the base and 2 5/8" at the top. It comes with a vintage Ball zinc lid which is in unused condition.

There were many unique old items at this Estate. I am not an expert on this type of collectible, so I've provided several photos that will give you an excellent view of this item's condition and details. It measures approximately 4 7/8 wide x 5 7/8 long x 3" high. It's made of pottery/ceramic with a painted brown(perhaps slip) finish which has a nice aged patina. The design appears to be of Asian or perhaps Mayan origins and seems to depict some sort of spirit. God or interesting three-legged animal/creature. This might be an old Tobacco Humidor Jar. This auction is for a Superb Antique Asian Pottery Earthenware Lidded Ginger Jar with 6 panels which serve as a wrap-around canvas for a traditional mountain. Valley and ocean scene painted in cobalt blue against a Celadon glaze The piece is Striking in all respects. The artwork is beautiful with great details from willow trees. Mountain peaks, flying birds, pagodas and boats. There are 6 Asian characters signed at the top of one panel. The jar is in remarkable condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or damage to the jar of the lid, which also is six sided and has a matching scene painted in cobalt. The top of the jar has a floral decoration. Antique W&R Carlton Ware Ceramic Pottery Biscuit Jar Here is a very pretty antique biscuit jar by W&R(Wiltshaw& Robinson) the maker of Carlton Ware Pottery between 1898 and 1958. Marked on the bottom: Rd No 157109 POPPY/ W&R STOKE ON TRENT with the Swallow insignia. Jar itself stands 6" tall and about 5.25" diameter with the exception of where the jar flares out just shy of the bottom by design. That is where a wonderful intricate pattern lays all around its body. The poppy design is in a slate blue/gray color over an off white ceramic glaze. The design extends beyond the intricate pattern but does not lay on top of that section which I find wonderfully intriguing. There is no mark on the top indicating plate or sterling. As shown in the picture there is some pitting along the edge of the top and some discoloration. ... moreAs you can see it is shining rather nicely and would display just fine. Still has its lid and that is neat and clean. Looks as if there was a hallmark along the top rim at some point. But very poorly incised so it can not be read. The ceramic glaze does have crazing on the inside and out, but a very fine crazing giving it(what I think of) as its character and indication of age. Nice heavy little jar. This fabulous old salt-glazed stoneware confit pot(circa 1930s) comes from BETSCHDORF(6th picture) in Alsace(near Strasbourg) From the lightly pebbled grey background to the cobalt blue artwork. Everything about this charming piece speaks volumes about the craftsmanship and knowledge that has been going on into salt-glazed pottery produced in the region since the early 1700s. Betschdorf’technique: while it is baking in the oven at about 2.200 degrees Fahrenheit, salt is added to the oven for the glaze. This makes the pottery very durable. And because it is durable, it is(or was) often used to store things like sauerkraut and spirits. Before plastic took over. The salt-glazed pottery was even used to make pipes for plumbing. Antique Coffee Pot with Matching Lidded Biscuit Jar. The base mark dates this to the 1800s. As from 1842 to 1883, the British Patent Office issued registration numbers inside of a diamond so that the public could be assured of quality and a true British design. Unfortunately, the mark is now mostly unreadable, and we cannot ascertain the date of registration. The top mark is definitely the Roman Numeral IV, and therefore that assured the customer that this material is Clay Ware. The Coffee Pot Measures approximately 8-1/2" tall including its lid. And 8-1/8" across from handle to spout. It will hold 60 fluid ounces. The covered Biscuit Jar is 7" tall and 6" across from handle to handle. Both pieces are in excellent condition with no chips. Up for auction is an antique Half Gallon"Mason Fruit Jar" Crock. This great crock was produced by the Union Stoneware Co. in Red Wing. Minn. There is a Ball zinc screw on lid with a milk white glass interior seal. There is printing on the front of the Crock and the bottom is stamped with the date Jan 24, 1899. This Crock is in excellent antique used condition with only one small chip on the bottom edge and some spots of normal wear. There are no cracks. There are some surface imperfections and glaze deposits from factory manufacturing. The approximate measurements are 8 1/4" high and 5 3/4" across the bottom.This Crock would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
