Up for sale we have an extra fancy Gilded Nippon Covered Biscuit Jar. Or also called a Cracker Barrel. This porcelain piece is from the late 19th century and has lots of Victorian fanciful detail. It is marked on the bottom with the blue Nippon Mark. The china is a snow white and shows off the beautiful marron bands or color accented by the heavy gold enamel. The handles have much molded detail and are also accented with heavy gold. The Barrel measures 9" wide at the handles by 6" tall to the top of the elaborate finial handle. UM Antique Ornate Cracker Jar Biscuit Barrel Cobalt Gold Roses Nippon? Limoges?
We have been on a buying trip and we are listing new items as quickly as we can. We will be listing them daily as time permits. Th ese pieces are nice. You won't be disappointed. We are always happy to co mbine items. When possible, so buyers can save on the shipping costs. This is a cracker jar. Or biscuit barrel. Basically. It's what a cookie jar was before we had supersized meals. Don't think chocolate chip cook ies bigger than a dinner plate; think animal crackers. Usually we tell you who made an item(Nippon. Limoges, Austria, RS Prussia) But, this time, we just can't tell you exactly who made it. The painting looks like Nippon, and we can find tons of items painted like this in our Nippon books. Likewise, Limoges& Austrian items can be found with this shape, the"plume-looking" blown-out bottom and area around ... morethe lid. We have seen cups and chocolate pots with this design. Since Japanese potters of the Nippon era were trained in the European style and imitated the work of Limoges, RS Prussia/Austria and German pieces, this is just a stab in the dark for us.but we think lots of you collectors will know! The crac ker jar is white. And as mentioned above. The lower area of the jar has a blown out plume or acanthus leaf design. This design is repeated around the inner part of the lid. The handle on the lid, the rim areas of both the lid and jar have an irregular cobalt area. There are handpainted pink and purple roses with green foliage painted near the cobalt areas. The"plume-like" areas have smaller pink and purple flowers. There is gold! Oh yes, if you are one of our regular buyers, you know we love gold! Gold flourishes are painted over the cobalt areas. Gold outlines the leaves/plumes and outlines the areas where the blownout part of the mold begins. There are also gold flourishes in the white area of the jar. This thing is gorgeous! STUNNING ANTIQUE VINTAGE HAND PAINTED& ARTIST SIGNED SCENIC PANELS COVERED CERAMIC HUMIDOR. Measures approx. 5& 1/2" high to top of lid& is approx. 6" in diameter. Sides of jar have four hand painted panels of mountains. Trees& lakes all being similar but different on a variegated green background. The panels are bordered with white enamel dots over gold& black. In between each panel is another panel of a cobalt blue animal on a red/rust background also bordered with enameled red rust dots. Beautiful enameled flowers are at the top& bottom of the animal panels. Description This is an early antique. Porcelain Ginger Jar, that measures; 4 1/8' tall by 3 ¼' at the widest point across the shoulders, and it has a 2” diameter base. There is a Flow Blue band at the base of the lid and scallops, around the shoulders of the jar, both with bright gold crescent shaped highlights. The large flowers that surround the upper portion of the jar are all hand painted, in various shades of pink and purple, while the smaller, flowers in between, are in yellow and blue, and all flowers have shaded green leaves. Matching flowers are also on the top of the lid and there are shiny gold star like highlights on both the cover and sides. This Ginger Jar is unmarked but the design matches some early Nippon pieces. I think this is a Nippon Pottery. Based on what I have seen on eBay. It is very beautiful. The shape is unique. It is about 6 inches tall and at its widest point with the handles, it is about 4 inches wide. The depth is only about 2 1/2 inches. There are so many interesting things on it. It is footed, beaded, lots of gilt and detail. There is a house in mountainous countryside on one side and a lake with mountains on the other side. It contains something old, and unidentifiable by odor. It's brown and dry. The top is chipped on the neck that fits in the jar or vase. It still closes so that no damage is visible. Antique NIPPON Portrait Biscuit/Cookie Jar Hand-Painted ROSES ~ Morimuri Bros ?
Here's an excellent and RARE Nippon Portrait Biscuit or Cookie Jar hand-painted florals in medallions surrounded by gold gilt wreaths. The very best is the PORTRAIT of a European Princess! The Lid is intact and bears 6 floral medallions. This is a"transition" piece. Moving between pre-Nippon and Nippon ware: see the pale green with white border moriage outlining the flow blue Cobalt in a ribbon pattern ~ indicative of pre-Nippon pieces. Then see the masterful"Gold Scroll" gilding decoration of the wreaths, indicative of later Nippon. Transition piece, I believe. circa 1890 Unmarked. But Van Patten's ABK book of Nippon and Noritake from 2005, Page 260"Portraits" and"Jeweled-Cobalt" shows similar items, including one with the same portrait. The very best is the PORTRAIT of a European Princess! The Lid is intact and bears 6 floral medallions. This is a"transition" piece. Moving between pre-Nippon and Nippon ware: see the pale green with white border moriage outlining the flow blue Cobalt in a ribbon pattern ~ indicative of pre-Nippon pieces. Then see the masterful"Gold Scroll" gilding decoration of the wreaths, indicative of later Nippon. Transition piece, I believe. circa 1890 Unmarked. But Van Patten's ABC book of Nippon and Noritake from 2005, Page 260"Portraits" and"Jeweled-Cobalt" shows similar items, including one with the same portrait. Gorgeous original Nippon jar in excellent condition with a thin flake off the inside lid rim. Gold highlights are gently faded at the top because of the years. but over-all it looks relatively unused. It measures roughly 7-1/2" high by 6" wide.

Stunning antique NIPPON Blue Maple Leaf signed hand painted. Art nouveau covered porcelain jar. This is a really lovely piece with a dark green base and layers of flat and raised decoration.
