DETAILS* This piece looks to be very old. The crazing is due to age and so fine that you really can't notice it and it does not detract from the piece. There is a brownish spot on the outside and some on the inside which I show in my last pictures. The amazing thing for something that is old as this must be is that there are no chips or cracks and it still has the lid. All in all I think it is a ver handsome piece. Shipping is free. ENGLAND CERAMIC BISCUIT JAR EPNS ORIENTAL JAPANESE PATTERN
This is a darling little biscuit jar. Made in England, marked on the metal rim(see sixth photo) The jar is also marked on the bottom(see fifth photo) but I'm not sure what it says because the ink has sunk into the ceramic. The pattern of the jar is oriental trees and Japanese lanterns. It is very pretty but needs some additional cleaning. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. My Grams collected and received her biscuit/ cracker jars from my Grandpa as gifts while he was serving in WWII and after he came home. This particular jar was old when he purchased it. It is from the late 1800's or very early 1900's. I will be listing several vintage items this weekend so keep checking back. The biscuit jars are all in good condition for their age. It is marked EPNS on the metal rim and also on the underside of the lid. Beautiful handpainted dark and light pink rose and green shamrocks adorn this piece all around. It is in excellent condition. There are no cracks. Chips, crazing or repairs. The inside is a shiny porcelain and the outside is done in a sand texture. The deep indigo blue flowers are heavily accented with gold, and there is a gold line edging the lower rim as well as small pin dots of gold filling in the lower edge of the combed upper edge of the barrell, The rim, handle and lid are silverplate and are in very good condition, as well. Gray's Pottery is the most common name for the products of a company started by Albert Edward Gray(1871-1959) in Stoke-on-Trent. England in 1907. Many of the firm's designs were to be found at important national and international exhibitions as well as being included in influential design registers. The company survived two World Wars. Post-WWII ceramic decoration changed enormously. Due largely to two developments. Firstly, from a pure design point-of-view, the public was looking for something new and fresh following years of restraint. Secondly, the pottery manufacturers wanted to press ahead with cheaper, automated processes of decoration. The consequence was that by the 1950s hand-painting, as practiced by the likes of Gray's Pottery. Was rapidly disappearing. This is a beautiful porcelain biscuit barrel made in England around 1870. It has a silverplated metal lid. Scalloped shape handle and rim area. The barrel has a pale yellow color with raspberry color roses around it's sides. The biscuit barrel has a 4-1/2 inch top diameter and a 6 inch maximum diameter. It stands 6-1/4 inches high without the lid. It is in good condition; no chips. Cracks, repairs or scratches. There is very light crazing on the exterior that can be seen under magnification. Has similar look of the very rare and desirable Wedgwood fairyland luster of the same period. Measures approximately 7" high to finial top, not including swing handle. Deep cobalt blue ground shows bright iridescent rainbow colors when held at different angles, and forms the background for brilliant butterflies of varying sizes and colors. Signed and numbered as shown on bottom. EPNS metal lid, handle, and collar which has shallow dent/ding on top side. Condition of porcelain: no chips, cracks, or repairs. Antique biscuit jar EPNS England, cobalt blue w/ fruit & flowers
This is a stunning and unusual antique biscuit jar. It is marked Made in England on the bottom and the rim is marked EPNS Made in England(the rim. Lid and handled are EPNS silver) The jar itself is 6 3/4" tall to the top of the lid knob and it is about 9" to the top of the handle. It is ceramic pottery and it is the painted finish that makes this one so unique. It is a matte finish with a cobalt blue background and painted flowers and fruit that use and almost silver looking paint in the flowers. There are no chips or cracks, but there is wear to the painted finish and the silver(this has not been cleaned or polished and I leave doing so up the buyer as some people like original condition) I believe some of the marks on the silver plate would polish off. ANTIQUE BISCUIT JAR 1. Listed here is a charming biscuit or cracker jar in very good pre-owned condition. 2. The jar measures approximately 5 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches when the handle is up. 3. The collar has an impressed EPNS on it. 4. The accent band is a cheerful mix of very colorful fruits. 5. There is crazing throughout. And indicators of age and use, but no chips or cracks. 6. This jar and is both functional and collectible. A great little starter for the new collector.
