On offer today. L4) A v ery attractive JAPANESE PORCELAIN lidded bowl by the famous KORANSHA( Ko Ran Sha- The Scented Orchid Company) porcelain company that was founded in Arita. Japan in 1875. It bears the red hand painted over the glaze ORCHID mark on the base. TOTALLY hand painted with a beautiful soft cobalt blue under glaze decoration of a grove of bamboo highlighted with a detailed& generous gilt over glaze and colourful enamel diaper borders. The pleasing robust form features a lightly ribbed body with handles shaped as dragons. Condition is excellent with no chipping or cracks or crazing or repairs of any kind. Gilding is in very good condition. Displays beautifully. Even though this was probably a lidded sugar bowl that was once part of a tea set. Because of the age and quality of the decoration, it would make a lovely cabinet ... morepiece. My husband& I have collected Japanese porcelain for many years and after visiting the Fukagawa/Koransha factory in Arita. I feel confident in dating this piece with a production period of around 1890- 1915 making it OVER 100 YEARS OLD. The cover of the second vase, however, appears to have been broken is a few pieces and somewhat professionally restored. The old restoration is OK but could be better.
