Zhejiang Province, China Stoneware with carved and incised design under celadon glaze(Yue ware) The quality of potting and the production of fine ceramic wares seem to have been unaffected by the political turbulence that gripped China as the Tang dynasty(618-906) lost its preeminence at the beginning of the tenth century. Indeed. The quality of the output of the Yue kilns in the northern part of Zhejiang Province seems to have peaked during the upheavals of the Five Dynasties period, which occurred throughout most of the first sixty years of the century. This tenth-century bowl, with carved and incised dragons under a lustrous green glaze, is one of the great ceramic treasures in the Museum's collection. The high-fired clay has vitrified so that it is resonant when struck, although it is not true porcelain in the Western sense, because it is neither white nor translucent. Some Yue ware was known at the time as bise yao, which literally means'prohibited' or'private color ware. According to literary sources, it was reserved for the exclusive use of the princes of the Wu-Yue. The high quality of the workmanship indicates that this piece was produced for royal use at the Yue kilns. The craftsman carved three lively dragons into the wet clay of the bowl, and, as a further indication of its provenance, one of the creatures carries his tail tucked beneath his hind leg, a design element that was a trademark of the Yue kilns. The jar is made of glazed, red clay decorated with an Asian inspired design of cherry blossoms all around on a green background. The top rim, handle and lid are made of silver plate and marker marked AJR in a trefoil for Jehoiada Alsop Rhodes, of Britain Works, Sheffield. The company was in business circa 1872 through 1888. The only other mark is the number 4 on the bottom of the jar as shown. CONDITION- The jar is in nice. Antique, pre-owned condition! This auction is for a Superb Antique Asian Pottery Earthenware Lidded Ginger Jar with 6 panels which serve as a wrap-around canvas for a traditional mountain. Valley and ocean scene painted in cobalt blue against a Celadon glaze The piece is Striking in all respects. The artwork is beautiful with great details from willow trees. Mountain peaks, flying birds, pagodas and boats. There are 6 Asian characters signed at the top of one panel. The jar is in remarkable condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or damage to the jar of the lid, which also is six sided and has a matching scene painted in cobalt. The top of the jar has a floral decoration. The colors and decorations and glaze is clear and bright throughout. I am not certain of the age. Antique 19c Chinese Asian Mirror Black Porcelain Ginger Jar
For your consideration is an antique ginger jar. I am not sure what this is. But is beautiful. From all the research I have done it appears to be from the Qing Dynasty. It is an amazing 14 1/2" tall and about 8" in diameter at the widest point. It is somewhat crudely made as I can feel the potters fingers dents in a few areas. It has a black mirror finish that actually looks like glass. An undercut foot rim. Inside you can see the bluish tint of a celedon glaze. The black glaze as a few dings. 2 that look like a small chip in the glaze and another that is a defect like something is under it. The neck of the jar is a brown color. The lid does have 2 large chips in it and that shows the thickness of the black glaze that looks like glass. Lid also has a piece of clay that is attached as shown. Bottom is signed KCI and a stick has been ... moreplaced from inventory saying this was K.C.Li that made it. Even though this is a piece with a chipped lid, it is so beautiful and heavy. Antique Biscuit Jar Silverplate Biscuit Barrel Asian
Please zoom on photos and read description. I do not see any flaws to the body of this gorgeous piece. There is a small chip underneath around the edge that it sits on. But it seems to be from when it was hand painted, as there is some of the red color like in the edge detail around this perimeter and in the chip. This is an estate sale find and was presented to me as a porcelain antique biscuit jar with a silver top. I'm pretty certain that it is silver plate. There is some discoloration to the silver, so please zoom. The spots on the silver appear green and I am not an expert, but I think perhaps it is silver plate on copper and the copper that came through greened. It looks as though someone possibly tested the under side of the lid for silver as there are scrapes in it, again that look copper and green. I did try to research it and found that the raised dots in the painted finish are called moriage. Which is a Japanese technique. I cannot find a maker mark or in any other way tie it to Japan. Measurements are approximately 6 1/2" widest width x 10" tall to the top of the extended handle. With the jar being 5" of the height plus another 2 1/2" for the silver top and lid. This beautiful ginger jar has been well taken care of! The same image is on both sides(front and back) I believe this is the double happiness design. But not 100% certain. This is in excellent condition! There are no cracks or chips. This has crazing through out the whole piece. I believe it was made this way. It stands approx. 8" tall and is 22" around. I believe this is an Antique Japanese Tea Caddy or Tobacco Jar. Now when I say that; I can just as easily see it being an Antique Biscuit Jar. So I am not exactly sure. But it is a Beautiful Jar non the less. It is Bone china, not a heavy type of china. It has a beautiful pictorial of mountains and the sea with lots of trees and houses and sailing boats in the sea. It has old designs of clouds or waves. Reminds me of old Japanese designs.

Antique Asian Ginger Jar Tongzhi Period 1856-1875
What a beautiful Antique Asian Chinese Covered Ginger Jar with the Tongzhi Emperor Mark which dates back between 1856-1875. It is in very good condition for as old as it is. I had plate like this that sold at an Auction House last October and it fetched $300. I am not a expert in this field. But when I saw this jar. I new exactly what it was since I had hands on experience with this particular period. Interesting story about this emperor. Zaichun AISIN GIORO. Was the 9th emperor of the Manchu Qing Dynasty at age 5. He died at age 19. They say he died of small pox but it was rumored that his actual cause of death was contracting syphillis from prostitutes outside the palace walls. Measures: 8 1/2 Inches Tall. Antique Asian motif ginger jar, 1900
This delicate antique ginger jar is closed by a stopper and a cover. The figures are hand drawn in orange and are hand painted. The shoulder and neck of the jar are unpainted and unglazed. The stopper is white with a small raised handle. Both stopper and its handle have a gold line hand drawn on them. The underside of the jar has three small flaws. One being a hole in the ceramic. There is no maker's mark. The inside is in good condition. Dimensions of jar: 4[h] x 3[d] Dimensions of package: 6 x 6 x 6. Weight of package: 13 oz.

Up for bids is an original Asian vintage hexagonal ceramic jar. The jar features a street scene with two night watchman figures. The is about 4-3/8" tall by about 4-1/2" side to side. It weighs just under one pound. I have no clue as to when or where the jar was made. My best wild-ass guess would be Japanese origins. If it ever had a lid. It's gone now. Markings on the base include the number 10320, a Roman numeral II and a third number that I'm unsure of, possibly 27. Antique Vintage Choy Fong Stem Ginger Jar Museum Numbers Hong Kong Asian
This covered jar came from an auction in Vermont. The underside of the lid. The cork, and the bottom are marked with, what I believe to be, museum numbers, probably the Hood Museum as this auction house sometimes sells items from the Hood Museum. The paper label on the front is marked Choy Fong made in Hong Kong China registered trade mark Best Preserved Stemginger Sound and Clean. The paper label has some soiling. The jar measures 5 3/4" high to the top of the lid and about 5 1/4" in diameter at the widest point. One of the wicker handles is broken and the thin rope that goes around the top is broken in three spots. The lid has either a manufacturer flaw or has been repaired over a chip, see 8th and 9th pictures. It has been glazed over. It weighs one pound, six ounces. It has some wear and use marks, no cracks, some wear to paint.
