Each piece is numbers: plates are numbered 8076; canister is numbers 8076; and the pot is numbered 7613. And they match. A very regal set for the discerning collector of fine porcelain! For your consideration is a Porcelain Dresser/Powder Box with Lid and a matching Hair Receiver. The Powder Box is marked Olivia Bavaria but the Hair Receiver is not. They are decorated with Lily of the Valley and green leaves and measure approx. 4 1/2" round and 2 1/2" high. The color I would call a very pale lavender with white flowers and green leaves. The hand painted art work is of ready to harvest heads of bok choy(Chinese cabbage) The finial at the top of the lid is a lying down. Full figure of a pug or foo dog. There are four heads of foo dogs near the top edge with holes behind their heads through which a cord, rope or ribbon could be laced. The lid has several chips that mostly can only be seen when you lift up the lid. The jar is 8" tall x 6" across. It is 4" across the top of the opening. Please examine the photos closely. Antique Vintage English Biscuit Jar/Cracker Barrel Hand Painted Artist Signed
A beautiful antique/vintage hand painted artist signed ceramic and metal(the metal looks to me like silver plate) English biscuit jar or perhaps a cracker barrel with gorgeous floral designs and wonderful colors! The piece measures to be about 7" tall( about 9" with handle up) x about 7" wide x about 7" deep. I am not an expert. But I believe the piece dates from the late Victorian era or Edwardian era, but it is possible for the piece to be a bit later. Please note this piece is being sold for decorative and/or collection purposes and is not intended to be used to actually store or serve food from. I could not find any mark identifying the maker of the jar itself and I could not make out the artists signature. However there is a mark on the lid which says"B.H.A. MANUFACTURED IN ENGLAND" I did some on line research ... moreand found there was a notable English silver smith by the name of Barnett Henry Abrahams. Which used the initials BHA, and which apparently made lids for some of Wedgwood's biscuit jars. I do not think this biscuit jar was made by Wedgwood and the mark used by Barnett Henry Abraham had rectangles around the B, the H and the A, instead of periods after each letter, like the mark on our lid. But I think there is still a good possibility that Barnett Henry Abrahams, which operated in the same period I believe this jar was made, might have been the producer of our lid. Though the exact pedigree of this biscuit jar is not clear. What is clear is that it is an exceptionally beautiful piece and it is in very good antique/vintage condition! Like all items of significant age and use, it does have some minor faults including: craquelure and small surface cracks, chipping, rubbing, discoloration including some stray paint marks, paint loss, scratches, discoloration and tarnish. This is an antique/vintage. Porcelain hair receiver with blue Forget-Me Not flowers on the cover. It may be hand-painted) It measures 2 1/2" across the footed bottom; has a 4 1/4" diameter across the open bowl; the lid diameter measures 3 7/8" and the height is 2 1/2" The bowl sides are scalloped and edged in gold. One manufacturer indent flaw is shown in photo with pen. The footed base is rough but I couldn't detect any visible chips. No other visible chips, cracks or fissures but some of the gold edge paint has worn away. The bottom is marked with the green logo"Z.S. Co. Bavaria" which dates this piece to 1880-1918. Beautiful!
